Summary: Great for new mommys!!
Review: I love this book! At first, i started out with the month-to-month books. But, i wanted to know more details. And this book was prefect. It was a gift to me, and, i have to say, it was the best gift i got. I started with it in the 14th week, and i am in my 34th week now, and i never have it but an arms reach away! GREAT PICK!

Summary: Definitely not the best
Review: This was one of the first pregnancy books that I bought. I liked the idea of seeing the progression on a weekly basis. However, not only was I disappointed, but terrified! Each week of pregnancy has several pages devoted to it, many of which tell you things that could go wrong. Plus, these things were not specific to the week being discussed, but applicable to the general time frame. For example, one week devoted several pages to all of the different types of miscarriage - any of which could happen in the first trimester. I felt there was far too much focus on things that could go wrong - these things should have been combined in a separate chapter or section of the book instead of intermingled with the fetal development weeks.

In addition, each week had a nutrition tip, which sounds fine at first. However, it's a little frustrating to read week 18 and find out that you should have been eating or not eating something since the start. It's cumbersome to go through the whole book to get and combine all of the nutrition info yourself. Again, a separate chapter on nutrition would have been much more useful.

Basically, while the concept was good, this book was not what I'd hoped - I ended up worried and frustrated after reading it. I then bought "What to Expect When You're Expecting" and was much happier.

Summary: Your Pregnancy WEAK by WEAK
Review: This book is the most fear-producing book out there. If you want to be scared of every turn around the corner as you progress along in your pregnancy, have this as your only read. It assumes that the most rare of circumstances are about to befall each woman and she better be prepared. The organization of it is far from easy.

My recommendation for a helpful, in touch book is Birthing From Within by Pam England or any of Hency Goer's books.

Summary: There's much better books out there
Review: I got this book for free when I registered with my hospital.
Having read many other books including "What to Expect when You're Expecting", Dr.Miriam Stoppard's "Conception, Pregnancy and Birth" and "the Complete Book of Pregnancy and Childbirth" by Sheila Kitzinger, I found this to be the least informative of the four. Although the book contains many health tips, there's also quite a few diagrams of rare occurances such as a prolapsed cord, Placenta Previa, a knot in the cord, etc which were listed under particular weeks. I found these diagrams to be misleading (as if this is something one should expect at a particular week!)
My advice: save your money and buy or borrow one of the other books I mentioned.

Summary: The growth pictures were the best part
Review: I bought this book with my first pregnancy almost four years ago. I really liked the picture every week showing what the baby looked like and the estimates for around how big the baby was. I really hated how there would be a complication of pregnancy described in each week. There was even an illustration of placenta previa with blood leaking out. I finally stopped looking at this book because it was freaking me out. All of the complications need to be put in their own chapter, not spread out with the weekly chapters. Also, the edition I had was outdated. He recommended that the woman be shaved and have an enema for childbirth.

Summary: One of my two essential pregnancy books
Review: Together with "What to Expect When You're Expecting", I felt I was well armed in pregnancy. The thing I liked best about this book is that it told you what was happening inside of you each week. It told you the approximate size of your baby, how much it probably weighed, what was developing, how it looked etc...I found that so interesting!

Summary: If you only buy one pregnancy book, this is it!
Review: The pregnancy book market seems to be monopolized by "What to Expect...." However, "Your Pregnancy Week by Week" is a far better buy. I found this book about five weeks into my pregnancy and haven't picked up "What to Expect" since. This book is far more detail-oriented and relevant to weekly and daily aspects of pregnancy. It tells you things that you never learn from "What to Expect," such as the amazing "double in size" that your baby experiences during the seventh week. It makes me feel much more aware of what's happening with my baby.

The book devotes roughly ten pages of information for each week of pregnancy from Week 3 through Week 40. The information is very informative and specific to each week. It includes extra articles about such topics as nutrition, medication during pregnancy, skin changes, and exercise. It also includes pages for you to write down things you need to tell your obstetrician, and contains a sample first-OB-visit questionnaire that proved invaluable to my husband and I as we prepared for our first doctor's visit.

Each week also includes a picture of what your baby looks like, including "actual size" drawings during the early weeks. I found it very interesting to find out my baby's approximate size and weight.

My husband and I have read this book together every week of our pregnancy. It has meant so much to both of us to see how our baby is progressing each week, instead of each month. He especially appreciates the "Dad Tips" found in every chapter. This book has become an important part of our pregnancy, and it will for you, too!

Summary: Frustrating method of organization
Review: While the week-by-week structure is nice in theory, it really doesn't work in the real world. I found I spent a lot of time flipping through the book, trying to find information on topics that didn't show up in the weeks in which I needed the information. The book has a lot of strengths (it's very comprehensive, for example), but I much preferred the thematic method of organization (e.g., all nutrition information in one chapter, all labor-related information in one chapter) that is used in The Unofficial Guide to Having A Baby by Dr. Sussman and Ann Douglas and The Mother of All Pregnancy Books by Ann Douglas. If you absolutely want a book that is divided into chunks of time, buy What to Expect. The month-by-month format works better than the week-by-week format.

Summary: Great book
Review: I bought this book along with "What to expect when you are expecting" when I first found out I was pregnant. This book has been so helpful, where the other has really not been. I enjoy reading it each week and find it easy to find topics located in the book simply by checking out the index in the back. I have recomended this book to friends and family.
