Summary: Great for early pregnancy
Review: At first I really loved this book. I would read it every Sunday to see how my baby was developing and what was happening to my body. It was especially nice very early in the pregnancy, to read about all that was happening inside me, even before I could see a lot of changes on the outside. After the first few months however, the tone of the book changes. Instead of providing weekly updates about normal development, it only lists possible complications and problems. I wish they had continued to focus on normal development, then reading about the other stuff would have been more bearable. All in all, great book for the first trimester or so...

Summary: A Great Book
Review: I found this book to be quite informative and educational. The chapters for each week are short enough that you can get them read in a matter of 10 minutes or so, yet they provided about the right amount of information I was looking for. It's the only pregnancy book I've owned, and throughout each pregnancy I flip back through it to track the baby growing and developing. I'm now going through my third pregnancy, and pretty much solely rely on it to get the information I need about development of the baby.

It deals with health issues also in each chapter, and basically has a lot of information on most things related to pregnancy. A great book I think!

Summary: Good book
Review: I liked this book very much and looked forward each week to reading about that week - it became my Sunday night ritual (though I sometimes read ahead . . .) I would advise to ignore "What to Expect" which I found unbearably patronizing and rely on this book instead. Much of the information is the same but you will not encounter the sneers and jeers in What to Expect and incessant preaching about your diet in this book. This book had a moderate approach. To those who say that the book is disorganized, I say - take a look at the index in the back. You can look up anything in this book easily.

Summary: scary stuff
Review: I agree with some of the other reviewers. This book is scary. I've read a lot of the other pregnancy books out there (What to Expect, Girlfriend's Guide, Your Over 35 Week by Week guide) and yes, all of them discuss what can go wrong, but this book really focuses on the bad stuff, and doesn't pay much attention to the good stuff.

My favorite pregnancy book is Your Over 35 Week by Week Pregnancy Guide, written by a ob who had her baby when she was over 35.

I also like What to Eat When your Expecting for practical diet hints. although it is practically impossible to follow the guidelines completely.

Summary: A must read for first time moms
Review: My husband and I loved this informative book. We looked forward to reading each week in advance to find out what was happening with my pregnancy and baby. While no one book can answer all questions, or address all scenarios, this book does a great job of summarizing what to expect (in general) each week. I recommend this to all first time moms.

Summary: I loved this book!
Review: I loved this book. It is great for those who are really excited to see what is happening inside their bodies. I have read some of the critism, and for one, look in the index to find specific info that you are looking for, and for the other, some of us want to read books that let us get excited about what is happening to us and we don't care that they are tell us about some complications (which I felt was good information anyway, but not why I was reading the book). I am ordering this as a gift to my sister in law who just found out she was pregnant. I am sure she will love it as much as I do. So, read this to have fun and get excited about the changes that are happening with you and your baby!

Summary: Very helpful, easy to read
Review: This book is well organized by week by week. My husband likes to read this book. There is a dad's tip in every week and he likes to do those tips.

Summary: Just what I was looking for...
Review: I loved reading about my baby and the changes that were going on inside my body every week!! I have heard nothing but rave reviews about this book from friends, and they have proved to be right! I've have enjoyed this book through 2 pregnancies, and plan on reading it again through my next pregnancy.

Summary: Loving it in my first preganancy
Review: I am a first time mom, and I bought this book in the first week when I found out about the pregnancy. The book is easy to read. I read about each weeks development on the weekends, and it has been very informative. If you want to know about a particular topic of interest, you can also use the index to look up the right section to read without having to read week by week.

I would recommend this book to anyone. In fact, I am coming online to buy this book as a present for a friend who just started "trying".

Summary: There are just too many far better books out there.
Review: As a childbirth educator, I own and have read a great many books about pregnancy and birth. I will not keep this book in my lending library, nor will I recommend it to pregnant clients.
A few of my criticisms are: The book speaks primarily of pregnancy as if it were an abnormal disease-like state rather than a natural function of the female body. I feel it is neither healthy nor helpful for pregnant women to focus on every pregnancy complication in the medical textbooks, yet instead of helping women to trust their bodies, Curtis focuses excessively on problems and complications. He repeatedly encourages mom to turn over all her healthcare decisions to her doctor, and says nothing to empower her to think for herself and make educated choices. The book speaks primarily of the physiology of pregnancy, but little of the wonder of the experience and range of emotions it stirs!
If, like me, you are drawn to the idea of following your pregnancy as it progresses, try instead PREGNANCY DAY BY DAY BY SHEILA KITZINGER.
