Rating: Summary: If you are pregnant, you must buy this book! Review: The book answered all my questions in a way that was easy to understand yet not condescending or "preachy" the way "What to Expect" is. Plus - a drawing and approximate size chart for every week of pre-natal development!
Rating: Summary: Learn what is happening to your body and your baby. Review: Finding this book was a lifesaver! It explains week by week what is going on in my body and in my baby's development. It allows me to understand my baby's size and growth by using easy to grasp comparisons. It gives concise and accurate medical information. I absolutely love it and keep referring to it all the time. The only must buy book that I have found!
Rating: Summary: Love This Book! Review: I am now pregnant and was very disappointed when I saw this book was out of print. Then yesterday I was browsing through baby books in Walden Books and there on the self was "Your Pregnancy, Week by Week." I was thrilled. I bought it immediatley and haven't put it down since I got home. It was a third edition so maybe they just put it back in print. Whatever, I was happy to find and know others will be too. It is a great way to see your pregnancy step by step and know how big your baby is. I highly recommend it. Wish I had it with my first baby.
Rating: Summary: Good for some, but buy other books too. Review: I found this book to have a strong emphasis on diseases and the effects of drugs (both recreational and prescribed) on your baby. If you are looking for specific information on one or a few of these topics, this book gives detailed information. However, I found it lacking on the more general topics that a pregnant woman is concerned about, such as nutrition, daily life style, etc. The organization was also a bit frustrating; of course I enjoyed seeing an illustration of the baby week by week and reading about timely topics, but not every topic in the book needs to be separated into the weekly chapters. I wish they had started with a long introduction that included all of the general topics, then made the weekly chapters shorter. In other words, reading the chapters week by week is not a good idea; some topics that you may be interested in right away may be buried in the middle of the book.(ex. I don't see why "caffeine" needs to be in Week 13.)
Rating: Summary: This is a great book! Review: This is an essential pregnancy guide. It is technical enough to fully cover just about any subject in understandable terms and makes your pregnancy easy to track and fun to read about weekly! This is THE definitive pregnancy book. Get it! It was my companion through two pregnancies - one high risk and it was great!
Rating: Summary: I loved it!!! Review: I had this book when I was pregnant with my first child. It was great. Every week I knew how big he was and what he was doing. It didn't scare me with what could go wrong in the very begining like other books
Rating: Summary: The only book you need to read! Review: The great thing about this book is that it summarizes pregnancy happenings week-by-week in a clear and concise format. You only need to pick it up once in a while to see where you are. Fabulous for mothers with little time to sit down and read through a whole book
Rating: Summary: Best book I've read so far and I've read over 20! Review: I loved this book it had loads of valuable information and because as my pregnancy progresses it tells me what is going on with my baby. The What to Expect book goes month to month and only tells me what my baby is doing by the end of the month. That's not enough for me I'm very excited and a little paranoid, I need as much info as possible! There is so much more information in this book. It also answers more of my questions than any other book. It has a companion book by the same author- Your Pregnancy Questions & Answers. Get it - its fabulous
Rating: Summary: Don't Waste Your Money Review: The information in this book you can easily access anywhere else, both on-line and in better written books. Some estimations of size of fetus, etc. are not accurate. Most importantly, the section on labor and delivery is right out of the 1960's. Frankly, the tone of this text is absolutely insulting. I think I can decide for myself whether I prefer to have an enema before delivery or have my pubic hair shaved, regardless of what a hospital's routine procedure may be. Dr. Glade's point of view is that the obstetrician and assisting nurses make the final decision on all matters, stating that "there are two patients to consider". Yes, and the one that is an adult is the one that will be making the decisions. Expectant and new mothers (and their partners) need to know they have a right be consulted on the delivery and care of their newborn.
Rating: Summary: Was this really written by a qualified OB/GYN? Review: Did a qualified OB/GYN really write this book? The "Dads Tips" are like something from the 1950s, insulting to most Dads living in 2004, my husband and I just laughed at them. What really put me off the book was on page 258, when talking about Is It a Boy or Is It a Girl, Dr Curtis suggests, and I quote "a more reliable source (than an Ultrasound examination) might be a mother, mother-in-law, or someone who can look at you and tell by how you're carrying the baby if it is a boy or a girl"!!!!!I am sorry, but there is absolutely no accuracy in this method whatsoever, it is an old wives tale!. At that point I decided the best place for the book was in the trash can. Thank goodness this is my third pregnancy and I know better!!!!
