Rating: Summary: Excellent coverage of what is going on with the baby and mom Review: Being our first baby my wife and I wanted a book that would tell us what to expect. This book is 'right on' with what is going on. It tells how much the baby weighs, what is developing, cautions to watch for, shows pictures of the baby, profiles of Mom, and much more. When we have gone in for ultrasounds the Dr. tells us how much the baby weighed and it was right on with that week in our book. We liked it so much, I am now ordering one for a couple that is expecting their second baby as a gift!
Rating: Summary: Very informative for mothers (and fathers) to be! Review: This book is great! It walks you through your pregnancy by the week and explains everything you are going through. Each week it tells you how big your baby is, what is happening to you and him/her and what will be happening to you soon if it hasn't already. I found this book very reassuring when I felt like the only person who felt the way I did. Unlike "What To Expect When Your Expecting", this book lays everything out rather than listing a bunch of questions people have sent in to the author. I found this book much more informative and easier to read. Defintely an A+ in my book!!
Rating: Summary: Not enough information to tell you anything.... Review: I didn't actually read the whole book, because I didn't feel anything in the book pertained to me and a NORMAL healthy pregnancy. I am currently just trying to get pregnant and wanted to follow the baby's development and my own on a daily or weekly basis. I didn't think they spent enought time on what is happening, and how you're feeling. I could not relate to substance abuse and addictions, etc. I stopped drinking and smoking when I decided to start a family and I only wanted to hear about the things I felt I needed to know. They could have talked a lot more about positive things, and positive things to do (or not do) to have a healthy baby. They didn't get into enough detail at all of any tops I did want to know about. What to Expect When You're Expecting and especially The Girlfriends' Guide to Pregnancy are EXCELLENT books! Buy them instead.
Rating: Summary: Maybe for the first child Review: I feel that perhaps this overly simple book would be allright for your first pregnancy, it really wasnt very helpful, and I felt that he talked down to the reader. "What to Expect When You're Expecting" is a much better book, with information you can use, answers to your questions, and of course, being treated like a woman with intelligence. If you need your hand held and are unsure of your skills as a mother, this might be good for you. Want REAL help, look elsewhere.
Rating: Summary: By far the most positive and informative pregnancy book. Review: I "borrowed" this book when I was expecting my first child. It was so detailed and reader-involving that I ended up paying my friend for it and kept it. "What to Expect" was monotonous and extremely negative. "Week by week" focused on how your baby is developing this week. And included a sketch of the fetus so we can get a visual image. It really gave me something to look forward to each week and kept my mind off the wait/weight. A definate must for the mother who wishes there was a window on her tummy.
Rating: Summary: What could go wrong this week Review: Although this book is useful for finding out what stage of development you and your baby are at during any one particular week, I did not enjoy the book. It should have been subtitled "What could go wrong this week".In an attempt to find something to talk about each week, he even brought up subjects like what happens if you get diagnosed with cancer during pregnancy. That's an incredibly rare thing to happen. But it did happen to me. Trouble is, the section was so short it was no use to me at all. Seems crazy to include information that scares those it doesn't apply to and is useless to those it does apply to! I think there are many more positive pregnancy books that, while they don't avoid talking about complications, focus more on preventative measures such as good nutrition, lowering stress, etc and on increasing the confidence of women as they approach birth and parenting.
Rating: Summary: The most accurate book I've read so far! Review: This is my first pregnancy and each week I look forward to reading what I may be feeling physically, emotionally and the best part is what is happening with the baby! There are so many aspects covered (tests, measurements, diet suggestions) which I am thankful for. I have found this book very realistic, helpful, and encouraging. I recommend it highly!
Rating: Summary: Things to Worry About each Week... Review: I bought this book when pregnant with my second child so that I'd have something detailed to read each week about the pregnancy. The book does contain very detailed information each week: the approximate size of the baby, physical developments of the baby, physical changes in the mother, etc. But then almost every chapter goes into some very detailed explanation of something that can go wrong during the pregnancy or delivery. Usually I feel that "knowledge is power" is a great motto but this book was frightening and worrisome to me - feelings no pregnant woman needs to have amplified. I feel particularly sorry for the first time mother who chooses this as her primary resource; there are other good books that provide great detail without spending so much time emphasizing the things that might possibly go wrong.
Rating: Summary: I buy this book for all my pregnant friends!! Review: "What to Expect..." is a great pregnancy book but it's so darn long between the monthly chapters. "Your Pregnancy Week By Week" gives you something to read about every week. Every chapter gives the size of your baby (and yourself) and tons of information about tests, preparations to make, classes to take, things to watch out for etc. etc. I'm a mom of two now and every Sunday night during my pregnancies I'd read the weekly chapter to my husband so we both would know what the baby was up to. Now I buy it for all my pregnant friends and they all tell me they enjoy their "Weekly Reading". I'd highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: A Pregnancy Essential Review: This is a great book for women who want to know what's happening to their bodies and their babies every step of the way. Unlike other pregnancy books which are only broken down monthly, this book informs the reader of the baby's development each week, how your body is reacting, and other pregnancy-related issue. Some of the information seems a bit alarmist, but in general, a must-have book for all impatient mothers-to-be!
