Rating: Summary: a very informative book that i reread with each pregnancy Review: Week by week is my bible to pregnancy! I have read and reread it with all 7 of my pregnancys. There is always something new to learn, or something you have forgotten. I love how it gives examples of the size of the growing baby compared to other objects. The book helps the pregnancy to feel that much more real. I recommend it to all my friends and even call them and read them their week over the phone if they arent able to get the book. All i have to say is what a great book, run out and get it for yourself, a friend or anyone you know who is expecting, it helps so much!!
Rating: Summary: This book provides you with what you need! Review: I enjoyed seeing the progress that my baby and I were making week by week as opposed to in one big chapter. I hungered for information, and was completely satisfied with this book. You will have no regrets if you buy it... I promise. Also check out 125 Things You Must Know About Being Pregnant for a sweet and friendly advice book on pregnancy. I got these two and returned What to Expect.
Rating: Summary: This book shows that Dr. Curtis truly listens to patients! Review: Before I read this book, I read Your Pregnancy Over 30, also by Dr. Curtis. When I became pregnant, I found that we lived 5 minutes away from Dr. Curtis' practice. I called his office and was immediately offered the choice of a consultation or an actual appointment, impressive right off the bat. I have since gotten to know Dr. Curtis, his staff, and his attitude and it's my opinion that he calls things exactly as he sees them and if he doesn't know the answer, he doesn't pretend he does by spouting "standard OB comments". He is very open-minded to the individual needs of his patients as well. I have read Your Pregnancy Week by Week and it truly covers the majority of questions in my mind as a first time mother to be. My only suggestion would be not to read only by week -- Dr. Curtis discusses routine "complications" such as colds and flu, dental emergencies, emotional highs and lows, and safe/unsafe medication. Since the format is weekly, you may have a dental emergency in Week 8 and not read about it until Week 13. Virtually any other topic not included in this book he covers in his book Pregnancy Questions and Answers, which again is very informative. This is a physician who has obviously written this book himself and he hasn't paid someone to do it and slap his name on it like so many other physicians have done. That is very reassuring to his patients! He welcomes comments addressed to him and is always eager for suggestions on what else to include in future publications and editions of the same. I have found no evidence ever of an ego in this gentleman. I have read What to Expect When You're Expecting and Dr. Curtis' book is superior in my opinion.
Rating: Summary: Book focuses on the negative. Review: Although I enjoyed the description of the growing baby, the bulk of the book is spent describing things that can go wrong. Many of the problems highlighted occur in such a small percentage of pregnancies/births that I think the book only encourages paranoia.
Rating: Summary: Get this instead of "What to Expect..." Review: My wife wouldn't go a day without this book. It puts things in context, instead of scaring a pregnant woman with everything that can (and supposedly will) go wrong. She likes the illustrations the best. Get this book for a friend because most hospitals don't give it away.
Rating: Summary: Quick & Easy to read with so much information! Review: It is a wonderful book that is quick and easy to read but gives so much information. It's nice to have a book that gives you information on a weekly basis instead of a monthly basis.
Rating: Summary: I have read the book What to expect when expecting and what Review: my girl friend is 3 months and she thinks the baby is moving witch she should not feel at this stage and she also tells me that at the age of 19 she was going through a change of life,And by reading this book she puts it in her head every little thing she reads out of this book she feels sick every minute of the day. So in my mind i think the book Ian,t that great signing off JAY .B
Rating: Summary: This is the most informed pregnancy related book out there! Review: This book has really been invaluable to me, and I have read it over and over about 3 times. It shows what the baby looks like each week, when you can expect changes in your body, and the way you feel, tests you may have, and delivery options. I really love this book. I also have "What to expect when you're expecting", and I think this book really is a lot better that that one!!! Whether you are pregnant, or trying to get pregnant, get this book!
Rating: Summary: Great book, especially for first timers. Review: I thought this was a great book which highlighted the changes happening to the pregnant mother as well as the fetus. It was was not overly detailed, covering both positive and negative aspects of the experience. Clearly if one needs a more in-depth discussion of a particular topic, you would have to go elsewhere. As a physician, I found it much more positive than the popular, What to Expect When You're Expecting which in my opinion was awful.
Rating: Summary: Enjoy the pictures, skip the rest Review: The pictures were helpful in understanding changes. Very little space devoted to physical changes, and if you're looking for reassurance, don't bother. More than half of "Week-by-Week" describes what could go wrong and warnings that are more applicable to pre-pregnancy. Now is not the time to worry about syphillis, HIV, etc. If you remove the negative, condescending portions, you'll have a thin pamphlet.
