Summary: A wonderful resource
Review: This is a great book to keep you aware of the changes happening during your pregnancy - for both you and the baby. It has a wonderfully easy to read manner that doesn't make you feel stupid. Even my husband enjoys reading this book. We look forward to each week's chapter to find out what's going on and to answer our questions. This book is much better than several others I've checked out!

Summary: What an awful book!
Review: Quote from last page of book:

"Beware of instruction that tells you labor is free of pain, no one really needs a C-section, I.V.s are unnecessary or an episiotomy is foolish. This can create unrealistic expectations for you."

Need I say more? I'd NEVER want to have kids if this was the only book I read!

Summary: The best pregnancy book.
Review: This book is awesome. It follows what to expect in your pregnancy week by week. It shows you the size of the baby. Tells you about the weekly developements in both you and your baby. It tells you things to look for and possible problems that occur during each step. It even gives dads pointers. I really enjoyed this book. Every Sunday I would look forward to sitting down and reading the next week, then I would read that week all week and look back at the weeks that passed. It just really made me feel like I was getting somewhere and added to the excitement. Plus it was helpful because it let you know what to expect and look forward to. It really is a great book to have when you are pregnant. You must have this one. It isn't as good for looking up things if you are not sure about what you are feeling, but it is great for wondering about your progress. This in combination with What to Expect While you are Expecting is a must have combo. You won't need anything else.

Summary: It keeps you going!
Review: I was always bummed in those late night moments in your bedroom when you are so restless and you have read all your baby books because they are only month to month! This gave me something to look forward to each week and kept me feeling connected and up to date. I had some other great vices too, one was joining an email yahoo group with some women and suscribing to some online newsletters sent to my email box, you can never have enough info on what is going on inside that belly! I liked this book better then what to expect ... loads better. I also loved another book it was a pregnancy chicken soup of the soul book. Please if you are pregnant and want more info ... I hope you look into all my suggestions!

Summary: My favorite book!
Review: This is my favorite pregnancy book! I like knowing what's going on week to week, and especially like the pictures showing the size of the baby and the changes taking place. I don't always have the same symptoms as what is listed, but who does? I think it's a valuable resource book, and I highly recommend it!

Summary: Overwhelmed by the huge selection of pregnancy books?
Review: Then look no further than this book. This is my first pregnancy and I was totally overwhelmed by the sheer volume of books available on this subject. Some super wordy, some with very vivid pictures I don't particularly want to see! This book is clear, concise and straight to the point. The great thing is that it outlines each week of development - for you and for your baby. Every week my husband and I look up the relevant week and can have an idea of what to expect that week. We can gain an insight into what changes our little creation inside is undergoing, his/her size, approx weight, what changes may be happening to me (some that are internal, so not immediately obvious). Very fascinating and reassuring too. I sincerely recommend this wonderful book to all mothers(and fathers)-to-be.

Summary: Useful information but dated look at gender roles
Review: I think that this book has a lot of useful information. It is fun to have something new to read each week. I especially enjoy the pictures of what my baby looks like each week, and appreciate hearing about the baby's size.

I enjoy much less the assumptions in the "dad tips". For instance, they suggest that the father-to-be would not know how to go to a grocery store alone, or would not understand how to be a supportive husband. I read these tips aloud to my husband and we both laugh. It seems like this book is not geared towards families where both parents-to-be work long hours and work together on household matters. Rather, the book appears geared towards a more "traditional" family base where the woman is at home many more hours in the day than the man (and, consequently, is solely responsible for chores at home). This is just not the case at my house.

On another note, the recommended weight gain standards are ridiculous (at least to me). Each week, I read the amount of weight I should have gained so far, and have exceeded by at least 10 pounds (and have heard no concern from my OB). It is bad enough when not pregnant to be confronted with impossible standards! Surely, there must be more realistic weight-gain advice out there, based upon fitness before pregnancy, body type, etc.

Still, overall, I would recommend this book.

Summary: A Must-Have
Review: I loved this book and looked forward to reading the next section every week. I don't understand how other reviewers could say that the book made them fearful. Yes, it does talk about medical conditions that might arise during pregnancy, but I would rather have the information than not, and if you don't like those sections, then skip them and save yourself the "fear". The illustrations are great and the information is useful for both the mother and the baby. Skip the "What To Expect" series and grab this one instead!

Summary: Wish I didn't throw it away
Review: This was my most helpfull guide during my last pregnancy. It showed the baby's develpment throughout weeks at a time, and explained alot of what was going on within your womb and your body. I am now pregnant again, and unfortunatly a month before I became pregnant I recycled the book thinking that I would never need it again. Well here I am bying it yett again, what can I say it is a great book.
