Rating: Summary: What a miracle! Review: This method really works! We have been rocking my 14 mo. daughter to sleep for every nap and at night, and she always woke up in the middle of the night too. I was very sceptical that I would be able to get through this without giving in. However, after one night of my daughter crying for about 1/2 hour, she is now sleeping through the night and taking naps on her own. It is almost as though she were ready for this. And no, she is not traumatized at all. That was a big fear I had. I just wish I had read the book sooner.
Rating: Summary: This book works! Review: After one night using Ferber's methods, we have finally found rest! My 7 1/2 baby, wife and i are all sleeping through the night. no more rocking to sleep! no more 4am feedings! no more putting the pacifier back in her mouth! We have learned to let her cry for 5...10...15 minute intervals and sure enough she falls asleep. This book teaches your infant how to reassociate going to bed on their own. Happy dreams to all!
Rating: Summary: It works! Review: We used the Ferber method with all three of our children and it worked like a charm. I recently recommended the book to my sister and her husband who had been co-sleeping with their 10 month old and were exhausted. She had been attracted by the exalted claims of Dr. Sears and other attachment parenting proponents, but the reality was that neither she nor her husband was sleeping well with their baby in their bed and the lack of sleep was taking a toll on all three of them. She tried Ferber (with some trepidation) and, in a few days, her baby was sleeping through the night in her crib--and my sister and brother-in-law reported that they felt like they had a new life together. One of the earlier reviews reported that Dr. Ferber has recanted. That's an inaccurate statement. In the New Yorker article that was referred to, Dr. Ferber stated that he didn't have a problem with co-sleeping, if that's what the parents truly feel comfortable with. He certainly does not recant his advocacy of the Ferber method for those who do not want to co-sleep with their baby. Any implication that Dr. Ferber now believes that his method is harmful (as some of the sillier attachment parenting disciples claim) or that co-sleeping is more desirable is simply untrue.
Rating: Summary: Brialliant stuff! Review: This is a compassionate and logical approach to helping children sleep.I learned so much about the nature of sleep and gained back a normal life. It has been over a year since we implemented Dr Ferber's techniques and our son is still sleeping well. We know how to deal with any hiccups that occur and have enough energy to spend quality time with our son when he is awake. He is also well rested and far less grumpy! Life is wonderful!
Rating: Summary: saved my sanity Review: My pediatrician told me to buy this book and that if it didn't work to bring it to him and he would give me my money back. It worked wonders and restored the sleep of two very weary parents. I am a nurse and did not find one problem with this doctors methods. Co-bedding is very dangerous and I have seen four babies in the last 2 years die in my community from tired parents smoothering their babies during the night when they roll over on them. You and your child will sleep much better with your own space to be comfortable in. If your child has a sleeping problem try this book.
Rating: Summary: Ferber is my hero Review: You'll note that most people who dismiss or fear the Ferber method haven't tried it (and probably haven't really read the book). Ferberizing is doing you and your child a favor. I've used this book over and over again for different sleep situations--it always works. It's easy to understand and implement. It's even useful for teenagers who need sleep help. I always look at parents who are having problems sleeping because of their child and say to myself, "suckers, you haven't read Ferber."
Rating: Summary: It Works.....It Really Really Works!!!! Review: I agree with another "reviewer" that anyone who thinks this is abuse has not completely read the book, merely scanned it. My son was 14 months old and I still had to hold him in my arms to go to sleep. When he'd wake up at night, I'd have to put him in bed with me to get him back to sleep and then put him back in his crib. The only person in this method that this was cruel to was me and my husband. It broke our hearts to hear him cry, but IN THREE DAYS HE WAS SLEEPING right off the bat!! The book was given to me by my daycare provider and recommended to me by his pediatrician. The book emphasizes that after 5 minutes, you go in and spend 3 minutes with him to assure him you did not abandon him, then let him cry for 10 minutes, go in for 3 minutes, then let him cry for 15 minutes, go in for 3 minutes, etc. By the 20 minute mark, he was asleep. Now I can lay him in his crib at night and he coos at his toys, is comfortable with himself, and goes to sleep on his own. If he awakens in the middle of the night sometimes, just a gentle pat on the back and some soft words gets him back to sleep because he recognizes this as his "sleep place." I feel we did HIM the favor, not US.
Rating: Summary: It worked in just 2 nights!!! Review: We were very skeptical at first but have become true believers. Our 2 year old learned to fall asleep on his own in just 2 nights. Naptime has become a breeze. And best of all, he is a happier kid during the daytime since he gets enough sleep at night.
Rating: Summary: I WAS SKEPTICAL - BUT IT WORKED - I'M SLEEPING! Review: I just purchased this book yesterday since it was recommended to me. I read it in one day and tried his method last night. I can't believe it actually worked. After the 15 minutes allotted time, my daughter fell back to sleep. We have had a very tough time the past two months with no sleep and this was our last resort. I could relate to what he was saying in the book. I was using too many sleeping aids to get my daughter to sleep. (Rocking, TV, a bottle). She cried - sure, but not hysterically. When she was crying I read his book again to reassure myself. I recommend it highly to everyone who is not sleeping. Like I said, I was skeptical but with his help and the help of my family - our little one is going to learn to sleep!
Rating: Summary: It works! Our baby slept on her own within 1 week! Review: We bought this book out desperation. Our 1 year old daughter wouldn't go to sleep or nap by herself. Ferber does a great job of explaining how we caused the problem by creating a number of bad sleep habits and provides a soothing way to positively create good sleep habits. The hype about Ferber simply telling people to let their babies cry is not true. Our daughter is so much happier now that she goes to sleep on her own at night and is learning (slowly) to take naps. We're much happier as well!
