Rating: Summary: Loved This Book! Review: When I got pregnant with our first child I bought every book on the market and read them all in about 5 minutes. The Pregnancy Journal turned out to be my favorite. So many of the books that I read focused on me and what I was going through, which was great, but I was interested in what was going on with our little one. Knowing each development that my baby was going through really helped me connect with our child. It also gave me great a great conversation piece when I had been asked for the 1,000th time how the baby was doing. It was neat to be able to tell interested parties that the baby was getting finger and toes nails this week, and the baby is now able to mimic drinking. Another great thing about this books it that it allows me to make little notes and comments that I will be able to refer back to and share with our child when she arrives. I will recomend this book to anyone that asks, and buy it for all of my friend that announce that they are expecting. Do yourself a favor and buy this book, it is great fun.
Rating: Summary: I love this book! Review: I really love this book -- not as a journal so much as a resource. My husband and I read it together each morning to hear "what's happening with the baby today" and get food suggestions etc.To address other reviewers' mention of its drawbacks: - It doesn't have a whole lot of room for writing. I keep a separate journal and only record my basic thoughts specifially about pregnancy in this one. However, the first trimester I was so tired it was a relief to see a finite amount of writing space! - The spiral binding. Personally, I LOVE that. I keep it open to the page we're on, and it stays that way till we're on the next page. Not closing it every day seems to really help with wear and tear. - Accuracy of information. As long as you think of it as a guideline, and not cast in stone, it's fine. You know that this feature or that organ may not REALLY be developing that very exact day, but it gives you something to think about, which is more than I can say for some books I've seen. Other things I really like: you can write in the date of conception and work forward from there, so you know that you have "175 days to go!" on a particular day. Even though the likelihood of hitting that exact date is small, it's still nice to have a reference number. Also, the quotes at the bottom of each page are fun, the weight/waist reminders keep you recording your info, and the reading is relatively easy. Other books tell you all the things that can go wrong (sometimes without offering any solutions) or demand that you eat this thing or that. This book just gives you a little gift to open each day: a glimpse at the development of your child, plus a place to write your reactions! I highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: Interesting information Review: I received this book for my second pregnancy. I found it to be interesting, but the method of dating the pregnancy from conception was sort of a pain. Most other books use the first day of your last period, which is also the way most OBs and midwives count it, so I found it a little irritating to have to consider two different schedules. Most of the information it gives is standard info that is easily found on the internet and in other books. I can't offer a great substitute for this book. My hospital offered free books to all pregnant women and, honestly, I found that book the best for both of my pregnancies. It is a fun book to keep on your nightstand, though. We did enjoy reading the daily entries in the evenings. I just wouldn't have liked to use this as my pregnancy journal.
Rating: Summary: A MUST for every first time expectant mother! Review: I absolutely love this book. And I recommend it to everyone I know who is pregnant as well. This is my first child and I found What To Expect When You're Expecting a little bit lacking. My husband and I read this journal together every night - it has really added a wonderful bond during this pregnancy. Recently we've started reading it to the baby as well (we have a special microphone that attaches to my belly) and so the baby gets to hear Daddy's voice every night too. No, there is not a lot of room to write and some of the information can feel redundant, but all in all it is exactly what it says it is. It gives you just enough info to feel like you understand what is happening with your baby and your body every day. And it tells you things your doctor is likely to leave out. There is a place to keep track of both your weight and your waist size which is convenient when you're looking back trying to see how much you've grown. And I personally don't want to write a whole lot in this journal and it gives just enough room to write the necessities. I plan to show this book to my baby one day so I don't want all the ultra private thoughts in there. I leave that for the blank book that serves as my personal journal.
Rating: Summary: Tons of Information, With Room for Your Own Observations! Review: I LOVE THIS BOOK! When I first discovered I was pregnant I purchased the book: "What to Expect When You Are Expecting". I wish I had purchased this book first. It is so much more helpful and supportive. Like many books written about pregnancy, it breaks information down into the 9 lunar months of pregnancy. The difference is that it offers information about each day of your pregnancy. Fascinating tidbits about how your baby is growing, what is taking place in your body and important facts about nutrition and health. It also includes quotes about children that are sometimes humorous, sometimes philosophical, and always uplifting. Also included, trivia about childbirth in other cultures. On each page, there is room to write your thoughts about the baby and your pregnancy. Each month you can chart your waist size and weight. This will make a great keepsake that your son or daughter can enjoy later. They will find it fascinating to know of your mental and emotional as well as physical interactions with them from the moment of their conception or from the moment you knew you were pregnant. If you are on a tight budget and can only afford one book for your pregnancy, choose this one!
Rating: Summary: I can't believe anyone gave this book a negative review! Review: I loved this book during my pregnancy. My husband and I would always check out what was going on with our baby -- what organ systems were developing, exactly how big our baby was today, etc. It became part of our bonding ritual as a pregnant couple. I agree there isn't much space to write in in the book, but that's easily solved by keeping a separate pregnancy diary. This book is just such a wonderful celebration of pregnancy!
Rating: Summary: Very disappointed Review: The info in this book is great, but the dates are way off. I filled in the dates as instructed, starting in the back with my due date. Once I filled in to the front of the book, everything is about three weeks behind. I know they go by gestational age and not age since LMP, but they are still off. For instance, the book says "expect to miss your period today" 16 days after my cycle was late. On the date the advised taking a pregnancy test, I had already known for almost three full weeks that I was pregnant. I never know if I should write in my symptoms and feelings on the date according to the book, or the part of my pregnancy where I really am. Also, though the book is marketed as a journal there is not much room to write. Instead of having room to journal each day, there are a few lines at the end of a grouping of three or four days. The binding is also very poor. The metal binding makes it difficult to completely close the book and the pages tend to slip out. If I had been paying more attention I would have not purchased this book. Instead I would have purchased a pregnancy information book and a blank journal.
Rating: Summary: expecting.. Review: i recently found out that i was pregnant and i went to border's to find a book to help me know what was going on. i looked at many books and decided to get this one. i liked how it told me day by day how my baby is developing and the changes that i'm going through, too. i also liked how it gave me room to write down my thoughts, i'm sure one day my child will enjoy looking through this book to see exactly what i wemt through. i was lucky enough to find out about my pregnancy when i was only a few days late, so it was easy for me to go back and fill in the first few pages. i will definetly be buying the baby and toddler journal to keep track of everything for the first few years.
Rating: Summary: Nice Date Book. Review: This is a beautiful book, has a nice index in the back to find most information within the book. Essentially this is a date book letting you know what is happening to you & your baby day by day.. which is very neat.. also has a little spot to enter some personal notes, info or thoughts.. it is very small but great to just to jote down something small. It is a nice book.. but... If you want the ultimate pregnancy organizer definately get "The What to Expect when you are Expecting, Pregnancy Organizer" I love it. that is the best book anywhere. "The Pregnancy Journal. The Day-to-Day Guide to a Healthy & Happy Pregnancy" This is a very Nice Companion date book or a great reference to see what is happening day by day..
Rating: Summary: So much fun to read! Review: My mom got this book for me and I loved it. It was so fun to read each day! Plus, now I can go back and look at my comments from each day (how I was feeling and all). My daughter can also read it when she is older and know what it was like for me when she was in the womb. I really loved this journal. A must have for all pregnancies!
