Summary: Husband actually read this one!
Review: Of all the Pregnancy books that I bought, this is the one that my husband enjoyed most. Easy to understand, yet not condescending. And certainly not too joking, like the psuedo parody book, "what to expect when your wife is expanding". That one scared my husband, with its many "jokes" about pregnancy. Some husbands do not have a great sense of humour, especially when the health of their loved ones is on the line.

Summary: Good information; a lot to think about
Review: My wife bought this book for me during our fourth pregnancy. We both enjoyed reading it - I to read the perspective of another father and her to see if I was doing things the way I was supposed to. All in all, the book provides a broad spectrum of information for fathers-to-be - including everything from the physical and emotional changes occurring to the mother to how to plan for your financial future as a dad. The Expectant Father got me to thinking on many occasions and served as a starting point for many pregnancy-related conversations with my wife. Two other books I highly recommend are: A Child is Born which contains outstanding pictures and explanations of the development of the baby, and We're Pregnant!, a great book to read together because it was written by an expecting couple and provides a true-to-life rendition of the ever-changing life of expecting parents.

Summary: Practical must have for all 1st time parents
Review: This was a VERY practical resource for my husband and I as new parents-to-be. He read 1 chapter per month so he always knew what to expect with my changing body before I did. It was a great communication tool between us and he felt truly involved. It is easy to read and has clear explanations of what to expect and how to plan ahead.

Summary: For dads-to-be to participate in expecting
Review: A wonderful way for men to begin the process of becoming expectant fathers. This book has sound advice on medical and psychological aspects of pregnancy and birth for both mom and dad. It maintains a sense of humor, and a supportive tone that both involves dads in the pregnancy and addresses their hopes and fears about becoming a parent. This is not the most exhaustive book on pregnancy or parenting, but it's not meant to be. The sections on "what she might be feeling" and "what you might be feeling" are tremendously valuable as both reference points and as a basis for communication. It works well as a resource for expectant parents, and a good conversation starter on sometimes sensitive issues of fatherhood.

Summary: Helped a new father: can't rely on mere intuition!
Review: I found the Expectant Father a very reassuring resource book. I am honest with myself and realized that for me, becoming a new father should not just be based on intuition alone. The stereotypical father (the past generation's machismo-type father) may believe that it is easy, you just follow your gut instinct about things. Well, I believe that it is a little more complicated than that. I said to myself, why be naive by entering what could be a wonerful part of my life without reading a book or two about fatherhood first. This book was an excellent resource full of a great number of tips and suggestions. It really helped me to brainstorm the idea and in a way go through an experiment in my mind of what was to come for me, and, what was happening with my wife.

I have seen Mr. Brott interviewed on television, and read about him in a number of places. He is becoming an expert in the area with a firm grasp of the issues facing a father of this generation.

This book is for a self-assured man, who realizes that with some thought put into it, being a father can be more fulfilling than the stereotypical distant father of previous generations.

For me, fatherhood is all that it is cracked up to be. Thank you for a book that provided a good heads up.

Summary: First time dad... not offended
Review: I found the book useful and sufficient for what I needed it for. The book did not address me as a moron and it didn't address me as a genious. It was well written and I would recommend it to all of my friends expecting babies. As a future first time dad, this book was much appreciated!

Summary: The best book on pregnancy for guys that I've read
Review: The author has the idea that the sooner dads get involved in being parents the better they'll be and that the best time to get involved is during pregnancy. I know this is true for me. I know it sounds funny but I felt like I was a real participant in the pregnancy. Yeah, my wife was carrying the baby but I was going through a lot of psychological stuff too and this is the only book out there that dealt with what my issues at all.

I read this book twice--the first time when my wife and I were expecting our son and then again during the months before the daughter we'd adopted from Korea arrive. Both times I was amazed at how calming and educational and really funny this book was. I'd never been a dad before. Never even held a baby before my wife got pregnant and I wasn't too sure about what to do. Of course it's all pretty natural, but this book really made me realize that all the worries I was having were normal and it gave me lots of great ideas of ways to be more involved in the process. It also got me thinking about the kind of father I wanted to be and whether I wanted to be the kind of dad my dad was or some other kind.

Being a father is really important for me and this book has made me a much better dad. I've been reading the next books in the series and they're just as reassuring and helpful.

Thanks, Mr. Brott!

PS I've caught my wife looking through the book and she's told me that it helped her understand me a lot better and made her see how important it is to me to be a good parent.

Summary: Phew!
Review: I've bought a number of books on pregnancy and childbirth and none of them came anywhere near as close to answering my questions about what I, as an expectant father, was going through. The author helped me realize that what I was feeling was perfectly normal. Overall, it was a great source of valuable information and reassurance.

Summary: The Expectant Father: Facts, Tips, and Advice for Dads-To B
Review: Finally, a book written for dads. It's filled with lots of insightful and helpful information. The cartoons are funny. A great gift idea for expectant dads...and moms too.

Summary: How to make the transition from clueness to annoying
Review: I admit I'm hostile to anyone who uses the phrase "we're pregnant." Sorry, but pregnancy is a medical state in which one's womb contains an embryo or fetus. If that doesn't describe you, you aren't pregnant. My husband is being wonderful and very supportive during my pregnancy, but if he followed the advice in this book, we might not be getting along as well as we are. How about reading some of the pregnancy books your wife is reading and talking to her? It sounds crazy, I'm sure, but it's just crazy enough to work.
