Summary: Not too impressed
Review: After reading up on almost everything pregnancy related, I thought I give this book for expecting fathers a shot. That was definitely not worth doing. Maybe if this is the first book you have ever read about pregnacies you may learn something. Otherwise, just remember "to be supportive" and keep reading her books ... you'll learn a lot more!

Summary: Wonderful
Review: I really loved this book. I found it very easy to read, yet, it provides very useful information. It helps men understand what women are going through and also helps women understand better what men are going through! I recommend it to both men and women. This author has done a good job!

Summary: Excellent for first time fathers
Review: This book was great, and helped me understand what my wife was going through-- as well as providing constructive things for /me/ to do for her, rather than fidgit. Having a vault of constructive ideas helped me feel much more a part of the process.

Summary: Nothing we don't already know...
Review: Like every other couple having our first child, my wife and I picked up almost every book we could at the bookstore. This is the only book out there that is targeted to expectant fathers, which is nice, but after reading all the "What to expect" books and other general pregnancy books I really didn't learn anything new from this one that wasn't covered in the others. Basically the book covers all the stuff you would encounter - mood swings, lack of sex, and even the fear of the baby not being your own - but this is found in other books too. If you feel you need to read this one, at least wait till it's in softcover so you don't blow over 10 bucks on it.

Summary: Not for This Dad
Review: The Expectant Father by Armin Brott is one of the worst books on fatherhood I read in preparation to become a dad. There is very little in the way of concrete, usable information and the tone of the book is extremely patronizing. I got this book from my wife and after reading it, I wished she hadn't spent the money on it; burning the money would have been a better use for it.

Summary: This is the one to buy!
Review: If you are expecting a baby or know someone who is, THIS is the book to buy. The authors take you month to month telling you what your baby is going through, as well as what your wife is going through emotionally and physically. The book is best if you start reading it as soon as you find out there is a baby on the way. There are suggestions that are perfectly timed (such as when to look for a pediatrician and when to start packing for the hospital). The book is primarily informative, but manages to be quite entertaining as well. I laughed more at this book than at others that tried to be a light-hearted look at a guy's role during pregnancy.

Summary: Better read whatever she is reading
Review: I read several books on pregnancy while my wife was pregnant with our first child. I bought this one, because it was the only one I could find that was addressed to fathers. I was hoping that it would give me additional information or at least, information on pregnancy from a different point of view.

I was rather disappointed with this book because, in my opinion, it doesn't give you anything. I think your chances of doing well during her pregnancy are pretty much the same if you read this book or if your rely on instinct and common sense.

I recommend books like "The Pregnancy Journal; A Day-To-Day Guide to a Healthy and Happy Pregnancy" or "The Girlfriends' Guide to Pregnancy: Or Everything Your Doctor Won't Tell You" I learned much more from these books and they were also more enjoyable.

My advice, do not waste your money on this book. Read whatever she is reading.

Summary: Excellent for 1st timers
Review: My wife and I live in rural Japan, so my only sources of comprehensible information on pregnancy have been the books that I ordered from Amazon. And let me tell you, this one has been great! My wife bought several Japanese pregnancy books, and whenever her books and my book disagreed, my book wound up being correct. As a result, my wife has taken to reading this book on her own, in spite of the fact that it is written in what for her is a foreign language! There are several other books on pregnancy written for men, and in general they are all pretty good, but this one is the best! The organization of chapters into months with a description of what is typically happening with Mom, the Baby and Dad, month by month, is fantastic! In addition the book is written in easy-to-understand language, and with a light sense of humor to help put everyone at ease during what is usually a stressful time, regardless of the circumstances. If you only buy one pregnancy book for him, this should be it!

Summary: Good breadth of information
Review: My dad gave me this book after reading it himself and making notes in the margins. Brott & Ash tackle a ton of information and keep it easy to understand. I highly recommend the book--even though there's some weird stuff in it. (Planting the placenta was an idea I could've done without! *grin*)
