Summary: This book helped me to "step into" my child's world.
Review: This book has a wealth of information in it. It is not "heady" though. It is a must for parents or care-takers of aspergers kids.It sheds some light on the mysteries of some of the behaviors of these kids. It helped me to step into my childs'world. I know I will refer to it again and again...it is like "gold" to me.

Summary: Excellent resource for parents
Review: This book has been the best information source we have found for understanding Asperger's Syndrome. It is easy to understand and very good for those recently diagnosed. I'm buying another copy for my son's teacher!

Summary: Too bad one can't give this book more than 5 stars.
Review: From Beginning to end, I found this book to have been written, for the most part, about my son and our situation. It helps peel away pessimism to expose hope.

It reminds us that our Asperger's sons and daughters are first and foremost kids in every neurotypical sense of the word who happen to be encumbered with Asperger's.

Mr. Attwood's book provides resources and information gallor to bolster our spirits and efforts as guides, for our children, to usher them around and over the hurdles of life.

Well Done, Mr. Attwood !!! Thanks, Tom

Summary: Excellent book for speech-language pathologist
Review: Within each chapter there is a description of a specific area of impairment, examples of the impairment, and therapy ideas for the impairment. This allows you to easily access just the information you need at the moment. Each chapter ends with a brief summary of strategies for the area of impairment covered in the chapter. These brief summaries would be an excellent way to give teachers basic information about Asperger's syndrome. This is especially important since many of these children will not qualify for speech and language therapy because their impairments are too mild.

Summary: Seven years of searching ended with this book.
Review: Our 13 year old son has been in and out of doctors and therapists offices since he was in first grade. The documentation is 3/4 of an inch thick. At the suggestion of another parent I got the book (via Amazon) and started to read it. I got a second copy for my wife as I headed out of town on a business trip - upon my return we both went "Ah Ha!" finally a diagnosis that tied all the lose ends together! Since then (March 99) we have traveled to see Attwood lecture, with our son, who stood and cheered for Tony. We have also handed out copies of the book to grandparents, school counselors, teachers and administrators. THIS IS WHY THIS BOOK IS SO IMPORTANT - ONCE THEY READ THE BOOK - THEY GOT IT!!! We were getting to be on a first name basis with the school disciplinarian - but after he read the book, and because it is so well written he read it all - then he could see what our son was dealing with, and could understand him, and could begin to work to improve things. (For that alone I'm ready to erect a statue to Attwood!) If you, or anyone you know, needs to understand Aspergers this is the place to start.

Summary: The best material for laymen and professionals on AS.
Review: This book is a wonderful starting place for parents with AS kids and the professionals who work with those kids. Attwood is very positive about the outlook for these special children but he lays out in detail the many problems and pitfalls that parents can expect to encounter along the way. My daughter was diagnosed with AS 5 months ago and I was astounded to find that every page descibed her perfectly. Quirks that I could never understand became clear to me. I have much more patience for her now that I understand the basis for her differences. As a consequence her behavior has improved immensely.

The only subject I found disappointing was the section on medication. My daughter is taking medication and I have not been able to find ANY information on the use of Wellbutrin with AS kids. Attwood does not go into any details on meds and those of us in the trenches could certainly use some guidance.

Summary: A "must have" for all parents and educators of Asperger's
Review: This book was the best I have found so far. As a parent of a 7-year-old with this syndrome, it has beem my "Bible" since I got it. I never realized how much my son fit the diagnosis. For any parents with doubts about your child's diagnosis, this will ease your doubts. This book is very "layperson" friendly and easy to understand. I have given a copy to anyone who deals with my son. It has helped them also, to best deal with him. Very well written and easy to understand. Thank- you Tony Attwood!!!

Summary: Clear, insightful, precise and accessible
Review: As an interested parent I've looked at a number of different works on Asperger's, ranging from technical papers to pamphlets for teachers. This is easily the best at describing the syndrome and various approaches one can take towards those with the syndrome. Attwood brings healthy common sense and a knowledge of the limits of diagnosis to the work -- that is, he is aware that the diagnosis does not describe the individual. The book is valuable both for those with prior knowledge on the subject, and for others, like teachers, encountering the subject for the first time.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: This book deserves a six star rating.
Review: When I received Tony Attwood's book on Asperger's Syndrome, I had only a few minutes to glance through it....or so I thought! Surprisingly, I could not put it down! As a retired speech-language pathologist, I highly recommend this book to parents, educators, medical specialists, friends, and neighbors.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: An excellent reference book for Asperger's Syndrome.
Review: This book is well laid-out and extremely useful. It describes the condition clearly and concisely; and offers many techniques for parents and teachers to help the Asperger's student develop the necessary social and communication skills. It includes references to Social Stories, developed by Carol Gray, which we as parents have found to be very useful. This is an essential reference book for parents and teachers of AS students.
