Summary: A must read for all parents of newborns
Review: My husband and I were very skeptical when our friends kept crediting "the sleepy baby book" (our nickname for this child-rearing masterpiece) for their little girl's wonderful sleep habits. We just nodded and smiled because we were certain that they were lucky enough to have a baby who just happens to like sleep. I read the book anyway while I was pregnant and used it on our baby from day one. The results are amazing. Our little girl sleeps 12-13 hours a night and takes two 1½-hour naps a day. Another set of friends is using this method on their 8-week-old who is consistently sleeping nine hours at night. This method requires that the parents be in tune with their baby's needs. It takes time to learn the signs of a baby that is tired but not yet overtired. That is one of the secrets of this method. Put your baby down before he's overtired. Another secret is seemingly counterintuitive. Don't keep your baby up during the day so she will sleep better at night. You need to read the rest your selves to get the whole picture, but it is a strange mixture of revolutionary thinking and common sense. He also backs up all his theories in the beginning with tons of interesting studies. This is a must read for expecting parents.

Summary: My favorite gift to new parents
Review: This is a most loving, humane approach. We read the book before our first child was born. We now have two boys, 4 and 6, and sleeping, and preparing for sleep, is one of the things they do best because we followed the author's advice.

Summary: Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child
Review: A very harsh book. Helpful in some ways, but not suitable for every child. I agree that it is important to protect your child's sleep habits and naps, however, the book is more vague and lacks step-by-step helpful hints and made me a paranoid parent. It is also very rigid in its opinion and technique. Crying it out made my child scream when I took him into the nursery just to change him.

Summary: Very Helpful to a New Parent
Review: We bought this book on the advice of in-laws and found it to be extremely helpful. First, with a colicky child it told us what we could do and what not to worry about. Perhaps the single most valuable message was that others went though similar experiences; we did not really have a "problem". Second, this was our gold standard in teaching our little girl how to sleep. We certainly have a far healthier and happier daughter as a result of such good advice. Besides, our life as parents is better.

A very important book for us.

Summary: Don't give up.
Review: At 8 months, our baby was still sleeping in our bed, waking up 5-6 times a night, and only falling to sleep in someone's arms. On the fourth night of following the advice of this book, our baby woke up at 10 pm and stayed awake until 4 am. When he woke again crying at 5 am, I thought for sure this program would never work. All the examples in the book were successful after three nights, and we had been consitent with following the advice word for word.

Without the support of my husband, our pediatrician, and the video camera we set up in the baby's room, I would have never been able to continue the program. However, Dr. Weissbluth was right. This program really does work, but it would have been nice if Dr. Weissbluth provided an example where it took longer than three days.

It was probably a good two weeks before Hayden was falling to sleep on his own, sleeping 10-12 hours a night and taking two substantial naps. He sleeps in his crib exclusively and wakes up happy! This program has changed our life. Our whole family is much happier now that we have enough sleep.

Summary: My 18-month-old sleeps! Amazing!
Review: I think Dr. Weissbluth must have been living with us while writing his chapter on the sleep-deprived child. He described our grumpy, unhappy toddler to perfection. He convinced me that I was hurting my child by not enforcing regular bedtimes and showed me that my child was not sleeping near enough for her age.

The first couple of nights were rough, but it didn't take more than 3 nights before we turned months of bad habbits around. We now put her to bed at 7:30pm and she doesn't wake up until 7:00am. She's much happier and is blooming into a lovely little person instead of a perma-grump. My husband and I love the freedom and the sleep we are getting too!

The only baby book I bought that has made a positive impact on our family. I definitly recommend it!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Thanks to Dr. Weissbluth our child is happy all the time.
Review: Our daughter's pediatrician recommended this book to us when she was 6 months old and not sleeping through the night. This book changed our lives and perspective on sleep. We followed it to the letter. Now at 12 months Hannah takes two naps a day goes to bed at 6:30pm and wakes at 6am. She is all smiles, rarely crabby and rarely sick.

Summary: Poorly Written/Edited!
Review: This book was horrible to read. It rambles and is very difficult to follow. If you are looking for step by step directions, look elsewhere. Clearly there was no editor working on this project

Summary: The most important baby book you'll ever read!!!
Review: I was given this book as a gift just prior to the birth of my first child. I was a bit skeptical at first but it was amazing the way all my children fell exactly into the patterns he describes. I am a physician and have read literally 50 plus books on child rearing. None were as useful as this one. My daughter slept through the night at 6 weeks, my son at 8 weeks. They both took regular naps and did so through the age of 4. Don't let people fool you - a mother who allows her children to live on a schedule is a mother who has control. Dragging your kid around town to avoid "changing your life for the baby" does exactly the opposite. It makes you a slave to car naps and late bedtimes. I buy this book for all my expecting friends and recommend it to all new parents I see in the office. Do yourself a favor and buy this book!!!

Summary: I was a walking zombie until I read this book.
Review: Thank God we discovered this book. My wife and I were walking around like zombies for months after our first child was born (he had colick too!). Of all the books out there for new parents to read (or even "old pros" who want to get some shut eye), I'd rate this one in the top five. One caveat however: Don't buy this book until after you have joined the ranks of the walking zombies, the sleepless. Only then will you truly appreciate the wonderful respite this book will guide you to.
