Summary: Happy child really was the result!
Review: "~Suggestion: Buy this book and use the ideas as early as possible. Children who have had poor sleep habits all along are more difficult to train. My daughter was very colicky and had difficulty sleeping for the first year. We started letting her cry it out when she was about 8 months, and it was terrible. I think if we had done it early it would have been much easier."~ low end of normal sleep for her age and made a goal of 14 hours. She often now gets between 13 and 14 hours. The difference seems like a small amount, but it really has completely changed her temperament. She is much happier and easier to teach and discipline during the day! It really has changed her life! We put her to bed around 7:15 every night and she still sleeps to the same time in the morning she originally did."~ so good for your child as getting them to sleep well be so cruel? My daughter also doesn't like brushing her teeth. Am I cruel to brush her teeth when she doesn't like it? Is it cruel not to let your child watch more t.v. than he or she should when they throw a tantrum because you turned it off? Maybe you should rethink your idea of what "cruel" is. people who gave poor reviews may not have read enough of the book or implemented his whole plan. Additionally, sure, every child is different, but every child also needs enough sleep. I think if they had continued to try they would have succeeded.

Summary: We do it and it works
Review: Our son actually goes to Dr. Weissbluth's practice but the methods here would seem sane and useful even if we didn't. Despite what people say below, it's not about letting your baby cry it out for hours-- it's about reading your baby's state so that you put him to sleep when he's most ready to sleep, and don't encourage the idea that if he just complains enough, he'll be rescued from his crib and allowed to play until midnight. Even now, at 17 months, our son goes to bed happily and while he may complain when the door shuts, in moments he's usually asleep. In the whole time, we've only had to drive him around to get him to sleep once--and that was on a trip.

Summary: who else is doing this?
Review: A faithful fan of Dr. Weissbluth's method, I am looking for anecdotal evidence that others, like me, are putting his method to work with good results. I would appreciate hearing from anyone whose children -- ages 2 through 12 -- regularly go to bed early, say between 7 and 8 or earlier. If you have stories to share please write: ils1@primary.net. Thank you!

Summary: My Sleep Bible!
Review: A friend recommended this book and I have devoured it and referred back to it numerous times! My one year old is the happiest baby around and I know much of it is because he is a good sleeper, thanks to Dr. Weissbluth's book!

Summary: Best Sleep Book You Can Buy
Review: I read them all: Ferber, Mindell, Sears, Ezzo, and tried to put all the theories in practice, but still my five month old would not sleep through. This book disputed some information the other experts put out that I found significant. It could be organized in a more helpful fashion -- you could miss a lot of good, important points if you don't read it very carefully, but it had the best information and it works!

Summary: Life-Saver for Parents of Twins
Review: This is an excellent book that really taught me a lot about the importance of sleep for a baby. I'm convinced that helping your child learn how to sleep will have LONG-LASTING, positive implications. It taught us how to establish a morning nap and then an afternoon nap (and how IMPORTANT they are). We learned that our babies were not colicky (Thank God!). We now can pick up on their cues when they're getting tired and get them down to sleep, BEFORE they're overtired and cranky.

Our 16-week old, boy/girl twins started sleeping through the night at 10 weeks. We applied Weisbluth's principles (as well as Ezzo's BabyWise) and what a difference it has made. Our twins are well-rested, happy, above average in height & weight, and a true joy to our lives.

Much of the book is technical in describing sleep (I liked this part, my wife was bored), but the rest is very practical and useful. We made the mistake of letting our son get addicted to sucking on a pacifier to fall asleep. All was well until he got his first cold and couldn't breathe through his nose. He was miserable all night! My wife & I finally resolved to take the pacifier away from him when he's in his crib. He did cry for 1 hour the first night, but the next night, he slept through the night for the first time! He sleeps so much better now and really is a happy baby. Our daughter has been an "easy" baby from the start and has never had any problems sleeping. (It's very interesting having twins and seeing how different they really are!)

Try this book. Read others such as Ferber and Baby Wise. Combine together what makes sense to you and you'll have happy, well-rested babies!

Summary: Great book
Review: This book is a great guide for first time parents. Dr. Weissbluth teaches what sleep expectations to have with your newborn and then continues to discuss sleep habits through the teenage years. He also discusses sleep problems and has real parent stories and how they solved their chilren's issues.

My baby slept 12 hours a night at 12 weeks. This booked helped!

Summary: Every phase happened as indicated in the book!
Review: Highly recommend this book. I wish I had gotten it before our baby came. And I certainly wish I had it before hitting week 6...peak fussiness. This book explains the mysteries of baby sleep patterns, and neurological development. Dispells common old-wives tales. Tells you what things you can help control and what things you just have to wait out development on.

Helped me feel sane again. It was all normal.

Summary: Healthy Sleep, Happy Child, Happy Parents!
Review: My daughter was 10mths old before we started using Dr. Weisbluth's methods. It took about a 4 days before she was sleeping through the night and another two weeks before the naps fell into place. We are expecting our second child in March and will definitely start the healthy habits MUCH earlier. Everyone is happier when baby, Mom and Dad gets to sleeep!

Summary: Skeptic turned believer!
Review: This book was recommended to me a few weeks ago during a conversation on babies' sleep habits. My son was 7 months old and was getting up every 1-3 hours at night, taking very short naps and was an overall grumpy, fussy, clingy baby. This book began to change my life the very day I started putting Dr. Weisbluth's step-by-step directions into use. I have to say that I was VERY skeptical as I had tried other methods (Baby Wise, Dr. Sears, and Dr. Ferber) none of which felt comfortable and produced results at the same time. This book has given me the scientific knowledge and hands-on approach to enable me to give my baby what he was crying out for all along--more sleep. In general he has cried less as a result of using this method than he usually did in any given day from sleep deprivation. And I've found that it is possible to be successful with this method on a gradual basis--start with finding the right sleep pattern for your baby, work on naps first, then on nighttime sleep. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
