Apparently he knows so little, he doesn't even know how unqualified he is to comment on the topic. I only have a B.S. in psychology, but nothing I learned in any of my social pyschology or development classes support what he touts in this book. And as a parent, I can't even fathom the kind of emotional neglect Weissbluth advocates. I know that as parents we get desperate for sleep. We'd consider just about anything to get the kid to sleep. But considering and doing are very different things. Don't let a short term problem (difficult sleep) have long term effects by taking rash action that will emotionally injure your baby. I recommend Elizabeth Pantley's No Cry Sleep Solution over this parent-centric garbage.

The plan Dr. Weissbluth describes works. I have a happy, well rested 18 month old child. We've been using this book since my son was born. While I have the prior second edition, I bought the new third edition for a friend and knew I had to purchase this newer version for myself. He describes best sleep practices for infants and children of all ages. Babies and young children need sleep to promote brain development. A well rested child is a happy, easy going child according to Dr. Weissbluth. We are a happy, well rested family thanks to this book!

Review: I bought this book based on my sister's recommendation after seeing how her three children march off to bed willingly every night at 8pm. I didn't think I could relate to the book because I have twins, but it was actually helpful. There was plenty of information on how to cope with sleep problems among twins. As they grow older I often consult the book. I have seen Dr.Weissbluth on many local shows here in Chicago and he's great. This book is my favorite gifts for new parents! P.S. I had also bought Babywise and found it to be recomending bootcamp-like tactics for infants.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: We love this book! Review: A friend brought us this book when our baby was a few days old and we have followed it since then. Our daughter is now almost six months old and sleeps over 12 hours every night and takes several hours worth of naps during the day at her daycare. It provides good advice on why sleep is so important and points out traps that are easy to fall into as new parents. A lot of it is common sense, but sometimes sleep deprivation pulls away that sense! So my husband and I would have to tell ourselves that not going to her right away or watching TV with her until she dozed off was the right thing to do. And it has worked! Some other reviewers think that some of his strategies are harsh, but not having a well rested baby is by far worse treatment of a child. This book will definitely be the gift we give at future baby showers. Whenever I talk to other parents of infants and hear them complain about their child not sleeping they are almost always doing things that Dr. Weissbluth has advised against, so sharing what we have learned early is important. It is much easier to train them to sleep well from the beginning than to correct it later on!

Review: Within 2 days and minimal crying, my ten week old went from sleeping only 3 hrs at a time, to sleeping 8 hrs without interruption! It teaches that sleep habits, like eating habits, are learned behaviors. And teaching your infant good sleeping habits is easier than you think. Do not have a baby without this book. I just wish I had known about it earlier.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: It Worked For Us! Review: I told myself that I would never let my baby "cry-it-out". Well, at 7 months, my baby was taking about two 30-minute naps during the day and he woke up SCREAMING after each one. He also woke up 3-4 times during the night. I could tell my little guy wasn't getting enough sleep but I didn't know how to help him. At first, I bought Elizabeth Pantley's book, "The No-Cry Sleep Solution" and tried that for a few weeks, but we were not seeing results as quickly as we'd hoped (she does state in her book that it could take months to see significant results). So, I bought Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child with the thought that I would never really try it, that I was just going to see what he had to say. But, after reading it, it made so much sense, so I decided to give it a try. THE RESULTS: My baby takes 2 REGULAR naps per day, for over 1 hour each, and he wakes up happy! He goes to bed at around 6:30-7pm each night and sleeps until about 5am when I nurse him and then he goes back to sleep until about 7am. THE PROCESS: It was not easy to get to this point, but after 1 month of trying Dr. Weissbluth's method, my baby is finally getting the sleep he needs. Since my baby was 7 months old when we tried Dr. Weissbluth's method, he did have a difficult time for about one week in learning how to fall back asleep when he would wake up. It was very hard to listen to him cry, and I must admit that the first day I abandoned the new "regime" and couldn't help but comfort my little one. It did get better for us after about one week, although in the book Dr. Weissbluth has several examples of parents saying that their baby only took 2 or 3 nights of crying to get into the new routine, it was more difficult with us. I did read that if you follow this book from the beginning with your baby (you do NOT let your baby "cry-it-out" before 4 months, you just establish a sleeping routine) then your baby is already used to it, so learning to sleep and fall back asleep on their own is a lot easier. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is expecting, has a newborn, or is just frustrated with how little sleep their child is getting -- no matter their age. As a side note, the book is somewhat poorly organized, so when you read it, do not skip over sections that may not apply to your child, i.e. "Birth to Four Months" if your child is not in that stage or has already passed it go ahead and read through the whole thing because in later chapters he keeps referring back to those ideas and you will spend forever hunting for what he is talking about!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: My new bible Review: Finally after 7 long months we were able to get our baby boy to sleep with the help of this book. We tried all the other methods and nothing worked. Finally we tried Dr. Weissbluth's method and it saved our sanity. The book was easy to read, straight forward and offered a lot of personal commentary from others who tried his method. One word of caution, this method is not for the faint-of-heart...you will have to listen to your baby cry, but it's well worth it. Within 2 days my baby was napping regularly and within a week I no longer had to go to him when he woke at night. This is the only baby book I own that I'm not willing to lend out to anyone else for fear that I might not get it back!

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Great book a little boring to read Review: I bought this book as I am pregnant with my first child and was impressed by the number of positive reviews I read here. The book makes total sense describing the different kinds of sleep and how it affects you. Any adult who has not had a good nights sleep understands how it makes you feel the next day, so why would it be any different for a baby, child or teenager? I can understand how this book would be hard to follow if you are a single parent or a working mom. But if you are married and able to stay at home I think this method is awesome! Our friends use it on their 12 month old and he is such a great little boy! The only complaint I have with this book is that it is a little hard to read. It is extremely informative and is about as fun to read as the phone book at some points. But it is worth it to keep reading.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Nothing new. Review: This book didn't help our family at all. Most of the information can be found in any baby book or baby magazine. There are a few tips that are helpful, other than that it just the "let them cry it out" method. If you feel you can handle this method, do a search on-line and you will get the iformation you need, no need to spend the money on the book, and wait for it to come in the mail.
