Summary: Reiterating - your baby will get addicted to being swaddled!
Review: The Happiest Baby on the Block was a wonderful resource for the first couple of months of parenthood. Now, however, my sweet five month old boy is having a very hard time learning to sleep unswaddled. While we were swaddling him, he would only awaken once at night and would take 3 naps a day of 1-2 hours each. Now (unswaddled) he is waking every three hours at night and not napping for more than 30 minutes at a time. Dr. Karp does not adequately discuss methods to "break" your child of this habit.
Note: We would simply continue swaddling, but he is learning to turn over and we don't feel comfortable keeping him swaddled when he is capable of that. Also, my husband and I would like to go out for the evening, but none of our relatives/friends/etc have been able to master the art of swaddling.

Summary: If your baby has colic, BUY THIS BOOK!!!
Review: Having a baby with colic is extremely upsetting for both mom and dad. As first time parents, we were not prepared for the CONSTANT screaming and crying. Somebody recommended this book to us, and we bought it (even though we didn't think anything would really work). Dr. Karp's method helped SO much and saved our sanity until our son outgrew the colic when he was 3-4 months old. I have told every new mom-to-be I know about this book just in case their babies have colic. It is easy to follow and IT WORKS!!!

Summary: Finally, some sleep for all of us!!
Review: I was recommended this book by several people for my colicky twins. I began using the 5 S's immediately and, although my girls are still colicky, everyone is much happier! I would recommend this book to anyone with colicky or fussy babies. The method really works!

Summary: What an amazing difference!
Review: I have to admit that I was pretty desperate when I bought this book. I don't necessarily subscribe to the good doctor's theory about the fourth trimester, but his techniques worked! I thought my baby didn't like swaddling because he struggled so much. Now I know that the tight swaddling is simply to help him calm himself. Add in the other 4 S's and it's like magic. It really helped to read the parent tips. I don't know how I survived the first two months without this book. My baby actually sleeps longer now and can be calmed quickly before he spirals out of control.

Summary: best book I have bought
Review: this book saved our sanity! This really works. This book will be my baby shower gift for all new mothers. ALL parents should read this book before bringing their newborns home from the hospital. Also not to mention, it reads very easily.

Summary: A must-read for new parents
Review: This book should be designated a national treasure! I read this book in a day and started immediately using the 5 S's with my infant son. He wasn't colicky, but as a new parent I really didn't know what I was doing. This book helped me focus on WHY my son was crying, and gave me a framework for calming him down while remaining calm myself. It's so easy to read too - if you're desperate, just skip right to the 5 S's and get started. I'm giving this book as a gift to my closest expectant friends.

Summary: One of my best baby buys!!!!!
Review: This is the greatest Baby book I've ever read. We discovered that our daughter was colicky and was at our wits end with her constant inconsolable crying. I read this book and started practicing the 5 S's and she is now sleeping much better at night. The best part is, as soon as she starts to cry, we can get her to stop in a matter of minutes!!! I am planning on buying this for all my family and friends who are having babies. I think this is a must have for any new parent with a fussy baby!

Summary: Very practical and helpful
Review: This book was very helpful to me during the early weeks of my son's life. He was very fussy. Dr. Karp's advice really helped me to soothe him. I also found The No Cry Sleep Solution to be very helpful. If you're not getting a lot of sleep, you may want to pick up both books.

Summary: It works!
Review: We got this book when our baby was 4 weeks old. She had a hard time sleeping because she flails her arms in her sleep startling herself awake. We tried Dr. Karps techniques and they worked right away. When we swaddled her and she was able to sleep much peacefully and longer. Eventually she figured out how to "unswaddle" herself so we purchased "The Miracle Blanket" and I recommend that as well. Our daughter is 7 weeks old and she now sleeps through the night. She getting a lot of rest and she is a much happier baby as a result.

Summary: So simple and it WORKS!
Review: Desperate to find any advice for calming my newborn, I bought this book after 2 friends recommended it to me. It is written in an easy-to-read style and everything makes sense. The first time we tried the "5 S's"--lo and behold our baby became calm and fell asleep. We consistently use the technique Dr. Karp explains and don't experience nearly as much fussiness at sleep time as we used to. Instead of taking an hour or more to coax him to sleep, it now takes about 10-15 minutes. This is the most helpful advice I have gotten as a new mom.
Thank goodness I found the book. Try it.
