Summary: Answers and a hand to hold
Review: Everyone was telling me that I created my baby's sleep problems and that I should put her in a crib and allow her to cry to sleep. Even if it was my fault she was awake every hour I could never let her cry like that. I am so thankful I found this book. Not only does it have an endless supply of ideas sorted by age and type (such as for cosleeping or crib sleeping) it is so warm and friendly to read. Pantley keeps reassuring you that everything will be fine and that in the long run you'll be proud you didn't cave in to letting your baby cry. I very highly recommend this lovely book.

Summary: No crying, peaceful sleeping
Review: My daughter Ellyse had always been a good sleeper until we went on a holiday and moved house all within a few months and her routine was thrown at the window. She was 8 months old at the time. My husband, Jason, Nanna, or I had to lie down with her to get her off to sleep, which was taking a lot of our time! I tried controlled crying and I was crying as much as Ellyse. I couldn't stand to see my normally happy, cheerful child getting so worked up, it was too distressing for us all. I discovered the No-Cry Sleep Solution by Elizabeth Pantley on the Essential Baby website and I have never looked back. The methods that Elizabeth offers are soothing for both baby and parent and I look forward to the quality time I have with Ellyse now before she goes off to sleep in her cot, relaxed and content and ready to wake up 12 hours later!! I would recommend that every parent read this book! Thank you again, Elizabeth, for a calming way to teach our children to sleep by themselves.

Summary: Sleep, glorious sleep!!!
Review: My baby was waking up every 1-2 hours every night for breastfeeding. EVERY night! I would never ignore his needs but I was going crazy for lack of sleep. I searched everywhere for answers and thank God I found this book. The techniques are common sense and kind to your baby. For one example, from our 8 step plan, we started using a white noise recording, so now the noises of the house don't wake him up. After a month of following our plan according to the directions he now only wakes once a night, twice on a "bad" night. I am a new woman. With sleep my life is right again, and I am a happier new mother. It is definately worth a try! I am telling everyone I know with a baby that for a few dollars and a month of your time you could be sleeping like we are. And your baby doesn't have to scream, and the process can be very loving and gentle. Bravo! Sleep glorious sleep!!!

Summary: Loved the ideas but they didn't work for us
Review: I loved the title of this book. I want to be gentle and nurturing to my daughter, and so if there was an alternative to CIO I was all for it. I read the book cover to cover, several times, and prepared to commit to it.

Well, unfortunately, after 3 months of using the techniques mentioned, our sleep was worse, not better. We tried it from the time my daughter was 6 months old until she was 9 and a half months old, and during that time all of our sleep got worse and worse. The theories seemed wonderful....but for us they were only theories, and despite my desire to apply them to my daughter they did not work.(...) I gave the No Cry Sleep Solution three stars because I believe that it may work for some children and because it's a very thoughtful, sensitive approach to parenting....but it didn't work for our family.

Summary: No Cry Sleep Solution
Review: A beautiful refreshing approach to nurturing your baby to sleep. Thank goodness I found this before the "controlled crying" books. From the minute you start reading the book, you aspire to be the type of mother that Elizabeth clearly is. A mother who nurtures her children, who's personal opinion is that "cry it out" solutions are not only painful for all involved but unnecessary. Although in my experience that is the only advice that you seem to get.

The solutions she presents enables you to gradually train your baby to learn how to sleep. My son Evan went from waking every hour and only being able to go to sleep nursing, to now sleeping 9 to 12 hours straight out. He goes to sleep in his cot at night and in the day, very much awake and laughing and goes to sleep all by himself and I only need to help him if he cries, which is rare and only if he's over-tired.

It does take time, approx one to two months but if you want three day solutions, this isn't the right book. I would recommend this book to any mum desperate for sleep who wants a kind and caring approach and has the patience to allow a gradual improvement.

Summary: Wonderful book.
Review: I don't have much time, but I want to say what an awesome book this was. It was so good that I wrote the author to thank her for writing it!

... If you are looking for some new ideas, and an understanding of your baby, this is the book! Especially if you don't want to listen to your baby cry it out.<...I think we'll be seeing great results in weeks ahead as this is only our 2nd day of applying your tips. Thank you again. I will be telling everyone what an wonderful book you have written.

Summary: This book makes you feel good about comforting your baby!
Review: My daughter needs to nurse before bedtime, and with the way her daytime routine flows, she nurses before each of her naps as well. She began to wake more and more often at night, and could not go back to sleep without nursing. I was EXHAUSTED! I was told by everyone, including my prediatrician, to let my daughter cry herself to sleep. I tried, and I couldn't handle it! It was truly heartbreaking for me and my husband, not to mention my precious baby! Desperate for a solution to her waking 3-4 times a night, I found this book, and it worked! Not only does my daughter get up just ONCE while I am sleeping (to nurse and then right back to sleep), but I feel good about the way I am taking care of my daughter! Too many other books make you feel like you're hindering your baby's progress by "helping" them to fall asleep by nursing, rocking, etc. This one helps you to understand that your baby needs your help, support, and comfort, and it also teaches you ways to comfort your child into sleeping soundly with NO TEARS! I highly recommed this book to any mother, working or stay-at-home, because it works and you can feel good about the process. Your baby will sleep better and so will you. And best of all, there are no tears...not a drop! (...)

Summary: Didn't work for us
Review: I read this book (it was the first book I'd bought on infant sleep problems) and tried it out wholeheartedly for about 3 months before I realized it just wasn't for us. Our baby was extremely stubborn and we ended up using a gentle method of the "cry it out" and it worked charms for us. Once she figured out how to fall asleep on her own, that was all it took. So, after 3 months of failing with this book, it only took a few hours of crying to work for us. Too bad I wasted 3 months in my mind. The book might work for you, but good luck!

Summary: I wish I'd found it sooner
Review: Just to say how great the "no cry sleep solution" is. I did not discover the book until 2mths ago and what a difference it has made to my sons sleeping habits! My son has been an awful sleeper since birth. He is now 22mths and has gone from;

*having no regular sleep pattern, being breastfed to sleep and waking up to six times a night to be fed
to;
*regular naptime, bedtime routine, falling to sleep with a story and sleeping most nights from 9.30pm to 7.30am.

I could not believe it (especially as he has been a poor sleeper for such a long time). I found the book very interesting to read and the ideas simple to implement. There is a section that tells you how to log progress and I found this a real help with keeping me focused.

I am so happy to find a book which actually looks at the needs of parents and children (rather than just encouraging parents to 'leave' the child to struggle with sleep). My only regret is that I didn't find the book earlier and could have saved myself, husband and most importantly, son from struggling with sleep issues for so long.

Summary: tears to my eyes
Review: I searched high and low for some answers to sleepless nights. After feeling absolutely hopeless, because I couldn't let my little innocent baby "cry it out" I fell upon this book. I read the first few pages and cried.Not only because there are wonderful solutions to gently "teaching" your baby (of all ages and situations)how to sleep longer, but because my family and friends were all telling me what I was doing wrong. Now finally, someone was suggesting that I was doing something right.My instincts and values tell me to love,nurture,and comfort my children. Now I have the tools to teach my baby how to sleep longer and better, and the confidence to continue to follow my instincts as a mother. After only a few nights, we have reduced the number of night wakings from 8 to 3. I strongly recommend this book to all the sleep deprived parents out there. Happy sleeping!
