Summary: I LOVE the no-crying approach!
Review: FINALLY, a book that makes sense to sleep-deprived people! I always thought there were only three options when it came to sleeping with a baby in the house: 1) You just get lucky and have a natural-born sleeper; 2) You can let them cry it out; or 3) You can just deal with the constant night waking.

Thanks to Elizabeth Pantley, I realized there is a gentle, loving way to teach my daughter to sleep without a single tear! After a few nights of following our sleep plan, my daughter started sleeping through the night. This was accomplished without ONE single tear!!!!

Unlike in other books, there is no strict format to follow. You can adapt the ideas to fit your child and at your own pace. No more feeling guilty for not just letting her cry it out and being tired all the time. No more guilt about not following the very rigid programs in some other "sleep books."

Thanks for all the sweet dreams, Elizabeth!

Summary: Finally...a gentle approach to helping a child sleep
Review: There are very few books on the market that will help a parent with their children's sleep habits in gentle way. This book is one of the few books that really focuses on a gentle approach to sleep issues.

Parents need to understand that by following a gentle approach to help their child sleep...that it may take more time then some other methods which are hard on the child.

The No Cry Sleep Solution addresses many of the issues that parents are faced with when trying to get their child to sleep. The main difference is that Elizabeth Pantley understands the importance of the parents role during nighttime hours. The author does not expect children to learn to sleep on their own through tough love but instead through a variety of calm and gentle steps. Through this approach a child is helped to fall asleep on their own and to sleep through the night...but can still feel they are able to rely on the parent to be there to meet any needs they have.

The approach outlined in the book probably will not have your child sleeping through the night in their own crib within a day or so...but at the same time your child will not be crying and screaming as suggested by authors of other night sleeping books.

This is the perfect book for a parent who would like help dealing with their child's sleep issues but is not willing to abandon their child during the night hours, for a parent who will not and does not want their child to cry themselves to sleep, a parent who is willing to be patient with the progress of their child, and a parent who is willing to be patient with their child as they learn to sleep better.

This is an excellent book!

Summary: every parent should read this
Review: I can't believe I only came across this book by chance -- what a treasure! This book is very effective and fills a huge need for parents who want sleep but are not happy with the cry it out approach. After a month of following this book's advice, I've gotten my 15-month old to sleep for a 6-hour stretch for the first time in his life, and I am optimistic that we will continue to see progress. Pantley demonstrates that there is a real alternative to the cry it out methods -- it may require more patience in the beginning, but I know from a lot of parents who've followed the cry it out method that it can be a continual struggle to maintain the sleep habits they've gotten through that method. I'm certain it can't be good for a baby to be left crying for hours at a time or even for short periods before every nap, and this book shows that it's not necessary.

I've seen other books that recommend gently encouraging your baby to fall asleep on his/her own in the crib, but only Pantley gives you the extremely detailed and concrete advice that can help you accomplish this with a baby who seems like s/he will never tolerate being put down while awake.

Summary: The No Sleep Cry Solution
Review: My husband and I tried the techniques recommended in this book. We followed them religiously for two and a half months. Although it is gentle (we aren't comfortable with crying it out), we found it completely ineffective in making any progress toward better sleep. Our son continued to wake up 7-8 times each night. We were able to soothe him back to sleep quickly each time, but we were never able to move through the different stages toward less intervention. After months of not getting more than an hour of sleep at a time, I was the one crying.

I found Healthy Sleep Habits, Healthy Child to be more helpful and effective (although more difficult to read).

Summary: Probably a good system, but it backfired on us.
Review: Pantley's No Cry Solution is a great idea, but you'll need patience. Our three month old WAS sleeping through the night but had to nurse to sleep. I bought the book as it advertised a solution for getting baby to sleep without nursing-it backfired on us! Within a week for trying her solution, our baby started to wake again, every few hours. I continued the "solution", now implementing the additional steps to get baby to sleep through the night and it just got worse and worse. We went from baby sleeping 9-10 hours solid, in his own bed, to now him co-sleeping with us, waking about every two hours. If your baby is already sleeping through the night, just having to nurse to initialing fall asleep, be careful. I now wish I had just dealt with being the only one who could put him to sleep and waited until I stopped breastfeeding. Five month later, I'm still the only one who can put him to sleep and he no longer sleeps through the night.

Summary: It worked for me!
Review: If I would have written this review after my first 10 days following the plan it would have been very different. This program is not a quick-fix solution to sleep. But I don't think there is such a thing. Even my friends who do the crying route take a long time to get to all-night sleep. It took 30 days for me, but my baby went from waking up every hour to breastfeed to sleeping 10 hours all night long. I am proud of myself for not giving in to the advice to let him cry to sleep. He's a happy sleeper now, and so am I. I like the format of this book. It's easy to read and follow - a big plus when you are so sleep deprived that you can hardly read a label let alone a book! Some of the other sleep books are very complicated and require too much thought. This one has a menu of ideas that are clearly explained. You can choose as many as apply to you. I am extremely happy with our results from this book. I suggest you look it over and read the excerpts to get a feel for it. I felt connected to the author, her writing style makes it seem like she really cares about you and your baby. And the solutions are practical and they really work.

Summary: A must have!!!!
Review: I was at my wits end before I got ahold of this revolutionary book. It was hard to think straight or feel like accomplishing anything when I was so tired. After reading through the No Cry Sleep Solution and narrowing down the plan we wanted to follow ,we got started. To be honest, applying the solutions in this book takes a lot of work, and a lot of patience (it may take more than a month or two to see dramatic results). Especially if your son or daughter goes in and out of a lot of "growth spurts" which cause them to be hungry a lot at night (from our experience, those spurts do not occur at exactly 3 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months as some books suggest).

This book includes chapter after chapter of helpful ideas and real-life examples of the practices put to work. It also includes example charts you can use to track nap times, night sleep times, eating times, and of course the times your baby wakes up crying. You also track what methods it takes to get them back to sleep (rocking, hand on chest, pacifier, driving around the block. :-). etc.).

Lastly, you can tell by reading even a portion of this book that Elizabeth is a "real" mom who really cares about babies and their moms and wants to help us go with our instincts on this very tough issue of getting your precious little one to sleep through the night.

Summary: Finally! Advice other than Controlled Crying.
Review: With warm, caring and intelligent advice, the author guides you through numerous and varied ways to help your baby sleep through the night - without resorting to controlled-crying techniques.
Most people I've spoken to, including 'professionals', made me feel foolish for not letting my baby "cry it out". But this book provided me with the much needed support and wonderfully helpful advice I was looking for. Finally, someone who believes in the same parenting style as I do!!
The no-cry sleep solution insures that your baby's needs and emotional wellbeing are nurtured, not ignored (as crying it out does).
If, like me, advice to let your baby crying it out doesn't sit comfortably with you; then this is the book to provide you with sound, intelligent and successful ways to assist your baby to learn how to sleep through the night happily (and you too!).

Summary: Good Book, but DON'T BUY MICROSOFT READER VERSION
Review: I buyed the Microsoft Reader version of this book, to read it in my Pocket PC. After having to reinstall Microsoft Reader on it (the preinstalled version didn't recognize the book's format) I started reading the book. After a few pages I noticed Microsoft Reader was skipping parts of the book, and I had to change the font size to be able to read them!
Now I've finished chapter 4 and received the "book format not recognized" message again when trying to continue reading...
The book has good advise on how to make your baby sleep better, but the electronic format does not work.

Summary: You Don't Have to Let Your Baby Cry
Review: If you are reading this review, I will assume that you are looking for ways to help your baby sleep through the night, and that you don't believe that letting him cry it out is the answer. Before reading this book, I had no idea what to do. I was (probably like you are) living in a sleep-deprived haze most of the time. In less than one month, my son has progressed from waking up four times a night (in a 10-hour period) to waking only one time in the same 10-hour period. I call that progress! And not one minute of crying. If you are looking for a "quick fix" or a simple formula, you won't find it here. What you will find are many ideas for creating a sleep plan that will work for your baby. If you believe that crying it out is not right for you (or more importantly, that it is not right for your baby), I urge you to read this book. Good luck, and bless you for doing the right thing.
