Rating: Summary: This book gave me nightmares. Review: Rosie writes a great deal in her book about her nightmares, I can honestly say that this book gave me nightmares. I was not expecting to see such a sad and desperate side to a fellow Long Islander. Rosie and I are about the same age and are both from large families on Long Island. I guess I always identified with her because of that, but, this book seemed to be written by someone who has been badly over-medicated.Her book is rambling and dark. It reads like a very bad novel, but she claims that the incidence in the book are true. I can't really see why she felt compelled to write a book about this unseemly episode in her life, unless she felt that in some way it was helping in her therapy. This book made be feel very sorry for Rosie O'Donnell, her story just goes to show you that fame and fortune do not promise you a happy life. If you choose to read this book, be prepared to have your whole impression of Rosie O'Donnell changed forever. As for Ms. O'Donnell, I wish her and her children all the best in their future, they deserve a happy life.
Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: This book was amazing. I was really surprised at her writing and her courage. I always knew Rosie was a good storyteller, and I knew about her strength, but...wow. I read it in one sitting. Great book, great story, great person. HIGHLY recommended.
Rating: Summary: A touching and moving story Review: Rosie O'Donnel comes through with raw honesty and bare emotion in this touching story. I don't want to give it away because it's emotional impact is best felt from a "raw" first reading. If you ever felt that our celebrities were just packaged goods all set up for our consumption this book will end that belief. If you have watched Rosie at all you know that she is honest and a what-you-see-is-what you get kind of woman. Read this book and you will get to see even more of this every-womans heroine. Her love of children and care for others are deeply moving. This book will open your heart and give you hope that people can do their each and individual best to help those less fortuante than themselves. Follow Rosie as she tries to do just that. She's only human after all. Great read, great woman, great story.
Rating: Summary: Ro can write! Review: I picked this book up somewhat impulsively. Although I've only seen her talk show a few times over the years, I loved O'Donnell's pre-talk show stand-up work. My kids adore her movie adaptation of Harriet the Spy. Anyway, so I picked up the book not knowing what to expect and was absolutely blown away by it. Along with Gloria Vanderbilt's first book, it's one of the most most beautiful celebrity memoirs I've ever read. Ms. Roseann O'Donnell (after reading the book, you will never really feel comfortable referring to her as "Rosie" again) can *really* write. Her prose is modern and elegant. She also made me understand for the first time what it's like to lose a mother as a child. And as a mama myself, I could so completely relate to her struggles as a parent to balance her desire to give her own children a perfect, magical childhood while infusing them with a sense of social responsibility and awareness of the suffering all around us. Rating: Summary: Way to go Ro! Review: I found this book to be like a roller coaster, it was exciting at one turn and then I didn't know what was coming around the next corner! Ro takes you for a great ride and in turn reveals what it's like to be human; kind, compassionate, loving, lover, scared,Mom,obsessed,funny,.....a woman. Great job Ro.
Rating: Summary: Not what you might think Review: Many of my friends think Rosie is a fake-that she is some Hollywood star who doesn't care for her kids and makes all sorts of money so she shouldn't be shopping at the discount racks at Target. I see Rosie as someone just like me, who also stars in a fantastic talk show, that has done very well, so she makes a lot of money. Rosie just goes to show that no matter how much money you have, you still have struggles in your life. This book shocked me and for that reason you should buy it. It's not about Rosie being gay, a millionare or any of the other stuff that you might think. It's about a 40 year old woman (Rosie) who gave her self to another woman she felt connected to for lots of different reasons.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Review: I felt extremely close to Rosie after reading this book. It shows that she is more that just a funny person on TV. I will miss her very much after her show ends. She is one of few who go out of their way to bring joy and happiness into the lives of others.
Rating: Summary: SENSITIVE AND WELL WRITTEN Review: Rosie's got it just right, and the story she tells is quite uplifting...... I find it to have the same sensitivity as KESHNER'S "COCKPIT CONFESSIONS OF AN AIRLINE PILOT," which is another fine example of a real man in touch with his feminine side.
Rating: Summary: if only there were six stars to give Review: I was totally blown away by the book. I've been watching rosie on TV for years, and i thought i knew her, but I don't. Or didn't. In her memoir she reveals a whole new side to herself; its amazing; it made me laugh and cry, the story of the lost girl, the hidden abuse, the humor with an edge. rosie's writing style is really beautiful. It's almost like two styles, one dead on, direct, funny, the other poetic and artful; that she can move between those styles is amazing, that she can integrate them in a book that's ultimitely about disintegration is overpowering. Ms. O'Donnell, I am eagerly awaiting your next book.
Rating: Summary: Rosie is Lost in "Find Me" Review: I am terribly, terribly disappointed in this book. I purchased it thinking it would be about Rosie .... maybe Rosie's desire to succeed ... maybe Rosie's desire to help others ... maybe Rosie's difficulties as a mom or single mom ... maybe Rosie's romantic relationships ... I found very, very little of the book to be about that. Instead it focuses on her very real obsession with a total stranger. It made me question, so many things about her. Where was Kelly the entire time she spent her nights up communicating with this person? Where were her kids? How does any mom of three young children have time to decopage for seven hours and then go out to the movies alone? Did she ever go to Miami? Several times, Rosie writes about her love of books. Why is this so poorly written? Why is it written in giant size type? Why are there so many empty pages throughout the book? I'm not famous and I'm not wealthy ... I am a 30 something educated woman, who, like Rosie, lost my mom (and my dad) at a very young age and have spent a lifetime dealing with the loss ... I could have written a better, more interesting book.
