Rating: Summary: Content was good, but found some language offensive. Review: I purchased two copies of this book, one for myself and one for my best friend. I'm sorry to say that I won't be able to give it to my friend after reading just two chapters I found the language to be too offensive. Not once in my life as a Mom have I found a time when the word "GD" was necessary or appropriate, and I was surprised to find it used in this book. There was nothing in the online review that suggested this type language, disappointed customer here.
Rating: Summary: Warmhearted and hilarious Review: I simply loved this book and couldn't stop reading it. Sandi Kahn Shelton has captured the magic of parenting with her warmhearted and hilarious look at what really happens when baby makes three! It's the perfect baby-shower gift, and I suspect a lot of grandparents-to-be will enjoy it, too, but I'm not giving away my own copy -- I want to read it again.
Rating: Summary: It helped me enjoy my two-year-old's crazy making behavior Review: I was laughing so hard that I was barely able to read excerpts aloud to my husband. The sections on the idiosyncracies of two-year-olds helped me to enjoy daughter's odd requests instead of wanting to run screaming from the house. The book is a wonderful addition to any parent's library.
Rating: Summary: Funny, Funny, Funny...and informative Review: I've just had my third child and wish there were authors brave enough to have written books like this during my first two pregnancies. Very funny and Honest. I love the chapter on Baby Gear. The hilarious reality of all the things we think we need to care for a human that is smaller then the family dog is too true.
Rating: Summary: A humorous and irreverent look at the first three years. Review: If you want a manual on how to raise children then this book is not for you. If,however, you are looking for a good laugh then Sleeping Through The Night is a must read! Shelton's humorous and irreverent look at life with babbies and toddlers is refreshing and validating. She has a realistic outlook on the wild, wonderful and often exhausting first three years of your child's life. It is worth giving up a little sleep to read this very funny tome on toddlerhood and baby days.
Rating: Summary: Good for a laugh Review: She's really funny, but I didn't appreciate her choice of language in some instances.
Rating: Summary: Very funny but lacking in propriety Review: Shelton is hilarious. Working Mother magazine says she is "the true successor to Erma Bombeck's throne." Sorry, I cannot agree; Erma never cussed. I don't mind a little garden-variety cussing here and there, but Shelton really lets loose at times and pulls out the big ones--the offensive ones, that is. She did not end up using the F word, but frankly I don't know what stopped her; everything else was there. She really doesn't need the shock factor to be funny either. She's a riot. She's definitely been in the trenches, but she could take a lesson from Erma the Great. My rating for Shelton would have been a five if she had just cleaned up her act.
Rating: Summary: Laughing out loud Review: This book made me realize how scary and wonderful parenthood can be. It's a real eye-opener. It's also a very funny read. In fact, I was laughing so hard that I had to put the book down to recover!
Rating: Summary: What a treat Review: To the Mom who was distressed by the language, if using the word "GD" is an indication of poor parenting then arrest me. Sometimes the only words I can think of during stressful parenting moments are words just like that. If you have kids and have never used the word "GD", then wake up, your a Stepford parent. This book is funny, and so true. Obviously written by a real human being who has both enjoyed and suffered the wonders of parenting. They don't call it the hardest job on the planet for nothing. I loved this "GD" book.
Rating: Summary: Where can I get oher stuff from this very funny lady??? Review: You had to have a sense of humor in my family. I come from wacky stock. Reading this book, I felt as though Sandi Kahn Shelton is part of my family. What a jewel. Refreshing, honest. She shares openly with the world. No parent is perfect, in fact...well, that's a whole other book. Keep writing Ms. Shelton, I feel as though we are kidred spirits, maybe distant cousins?
