Rating: Summary: Not Just for the Infertile Review: "Infertility Sucks" is a must read for the infertile, their families, friends and anyone who wants to gain insight into their world. Barna opens the arms of sisterhood to the similarly situated and provides a glimpse into their world for the rest of us. The book is a compelling read about a difficult experience thanks in large part to the writer's use of humor, imagination and wry wordplay.
Rating: Summary: Wit & Wisdom Review: Beverly Barna tackles a difficult & trying situation with wit & wisdom that can only come from having been there- done that.
Rating: Summary: The Best I've Read Review: I am not infertile, but a few of my friends are. This great book for the first time helped me understand what they are going through. The empathy contained in this book, along with its humor, has helped me gain a true understanding. I have shared it with my infertile friends, all of whom have derived comfort, solace and humor in its pages. Barna has given to us all a real gift.

Rating: Summary: Had some good parts Review: I was a little disappointed with this book. Parts of it were hard to follow because (it seemed) that the author went overboard with the "clever and witty" jargon throughout the book. I skipped over a lot of parts because of it. However, others may enjoy that aspect of it. She does an excellent job of describing the [stuff] that infertile women have to go through. I loved the parts concerning Home Pregnancy Tests and about the "UN-helpful" advice that others try to give to infertile women. Everything she said about HPT addiction is sooo true! I lived it for a long time. She also gave some good advice on how to handle different situations that are unique to infertile couples. The thing that is nice about this book, is that it is one of the very few books that deals with trying to cope with infertility from a non-medical standpoint. Plus, the author never went on to have a bio-child like the other authors who have written similar books. So it was nice to read something from THAT perspective. The author doesn't sugarcoat anything and is brutally honest, which is a refreshing. The book reminded me of how horrible it is to go through infertility and recurrent pregnancy loss. I will never forget how difficult and heartbreaking it was. It is a pain that most people are lucky enough to not have to know. Another point--this book is for Primary infertiles. I do not feel that this book is for women with secondary infertility, unless they had suffered through Primary infertility themselves.
Rating: Summary: Too Sarcastic Review: I'm not sure I was emotionally ready for a book that takes such a harsh and sarcastic view of infertility. The subject is delicate and if you are an emotional woman, like I am, you might find this book a bit much. I realize the author might have been trying to interject humor, but I didn't find a lot of her anticdotes amusing at all. If you're looking for a good book on infertility that has it's share of humor and encouragement, I'd recommend "Girlfriend to Girlfriend" by Kristen Magnacca. It touches on a lot of the same points without offensive sarcasm. It is also much more well written than "Infertility Sucks".
Rating: Summary: Sometimes Laughter is the Best Medicine Review: Infertility is a serious problem. Depression is a constant companion during the roller coaster uncertainty of IVF. The author, although unsuccessful in her many attempts to become pregnant, has not only documented her experiences for others but has done so with a wit and good humor that will make you laugh through your pain and tears. This book is a "must read" for every infertile woman.

Rating: Summary: Not just for the perpetually pregnantly paused! Review: Metaphors abound in this candid insight into the minds of the infertile woman, with the right mix of wit and humor. This book provides not only a respite from the multiple emotional and physical challenges of being infertile, but also a realistic perspective for those who know (or think they know) the trials and tribulations of an infertile couple. Kudos to Bev Barna, for sharing such a personal, intimate and emotional topic with such comical ingenuity. May it offer the same comfort to others as it has to me!
Rating: Summary: Entertaining! Review: Thanks to other reviewers, I went into this book very aware that it was one woman's humorous approach to infertility. I found it very entertaining, but then again, I did expect (and was therefore prepared for) the sarcasm. As it was intended for infertile readers only (or mostly) I understood the emotion behind it and thought it was all in fun. [I've been trying for **nine years** to get pg; sometimes it's human to get a little frustrated and grumpy about it.] The illustrations at the beginning of each chapter are funny too. The book has zingers but I think they are meant for those who deserve them (like people who tell infertile women/couples to relax). I've read many angrier and meaner blogs on the Internet. Okay, it has a scarcastic tone sometimes, but overall I thought it had a positive spin on coping with infertility. I plan to buy another copy for my girlfriend, or give her mine!
