Summary: Pass this up and get the Idiots guide to Sex
Review: My girlfriend had this book on her bookshelf so I decided to take a look through it one day. I have to say that I was pretty upset with it. The book doesnt have very many pictures and the few that it does are just very crude drawings. Drawings and pictures are pretty crucial when it comes to books like this, mainly because it is nice to be able to take a look at what you will be doing rather than reading about it and trying to picture it in your head. I own "The complete Idiots Guide to Sex" and I think that it would be a much better buy for anyone looking for some good info. The author of "The Idiots Guide" is much more down to earth, and and writes with a bit more of a sence of humor. Also, there are much more pictures to help you have ideas of what you are doing.

Pass this up and check out my review for "The complete Idiots Guide to Sex". I think you would find better use of that book. So it short, I would not get this book.

Summary: JEWISH GRANDMOTHER GIVES ADVICE ON SEX
Review: Sex for Dummies is intended to give its readers a start on a healthy approach to sexuality by dispelling ignorance-both the not-knowing and the not-caring kind. Despite it being the new millennium, we adults continue to do a lousy job of educating ourselves and our young people about sex.

Part of the reason is that, in Asian culture, we're often embarrassed to talk about sex, especially when it comes to talking with our own flesh and blood. As parents, many of us avoid the subject entirely. Often, even when we do work up the courage to have a heart-to-heart talk with "the kids," we don't do much more than warn our daughters to avoid pregnancy and scare our sons with the threat of sexually transmitted diseases.

While these are certainly important points to cover, where does an adolescent learn about issues of good sexual functioning, such as how to have an orgasm, or how to be the best lover possible? This is where books on human sexuality such as this play their role in sex education.

However, this otherwise excellent primer on human sexuality is marred by a number of inaccuracies that are really quite inexcusable. In the diagram of The innards of the vulva (Figure 3-2) on page 35, the labia minora are incorrectly labelled as the labia majora and the entrance to the vagina is incorrectly labelled as the labia minora.

On page 188, the author devotes a mere three paragraphs to the G-spot before inaccurately concluding that "there has never been any scientifically validated proof that it exists." A grandmother, Dr Ruth K. Westheimer would be well advised to keep up on current literature. Dr Westheimer does admit, however, on Page 4 that she is "old-fashioned and a square."

Dr Westheimer's writing on relationship issues, however, does benefit from her long experience as a mother, grandmother and sex therapist. Much of her advice is pragmatic and makes much sense.

Summary: Excellent and as much fun to read as really doing it!
Review: This book is a delight and how I wish I'd had it when I was a teen. It's practical, spiced with Dr. Ruth's signature humor, and common sense. Much more than a how-to book, it also covers issues such as STDs, homosexuality, sexual abuse and rape. Parents could do much worse than give this book to their kids to learn about the birds and bees.

Summary: Not the greatest.
Review: This book is like every other book that doesn't get to the heart of many problems and how to solve them and just throw fantasy and other things at you to spice your life up. If your looking for material to help you and focus more on love and not make believe, I recommend Christian based authors instead.

Summary: NOW it all makes sense!
Review: Wow, was I way off base! Thank you Dr. Ruth for setting me straight.

Seriously, though, I love this book. It treats a very important topic in a direct but humorous way; it's crammed full of useful bits of information; and it doesn't have all of those soft-core porn images that the other books seem to delight in. Describing the acts is good enough for me, there's no need for a book to be full of stunt rumps to get the point across.
