Summary: an informative book for making sex more pleasurable!!
Review: 406 pages. This book can help you make sex -- whether it's a one-night stand or a long-term commitment -- more rewarding for the both (or more) of you! Written by Dr. Ruth, this is a verrry practical, up-to-date, easy-to-read overview with answers to the questions and viewpoints we all have. My girl friends and I spend lots of time talking about boys, sex, being bi or just experimenting, and stuff. This book is like way kewl, and you're pretty smart if you buy it! So, like fill yourself in, and then you can have that talk with your parents and answer their questions!! heheh. Very highly recommended.

Guys -- intercourse is not all there is to sex. So, if you want to learn what she already knows about making herself (or other girls) happy, this book will help you discover the difference between your ideas of sex and hers. Do you ever really wonder why a girl would be very bi? Do you want deeper, more intense, passionate, rewarding, mind-blowing sex (and a chance at a second date!)? Do you want to perform better (than a 3 on a scale of 1 to 10)? It's time to open your eyes, and stop just trying to score.

It's pretty easy to take advantage of a girl, to toy with her emotions, to play with her feelings, to use her, to two-time her, and to violate her. You've probably never felt like less than an object, or needed to fight someone off, or curled up and cried because you really thought it was going to be different this time.

Let's face the obvious. What you want and what she wants are two totally different things. Ultimately, if you want to know what makes her happy, she can educate you. This book will help bring you closer to that point. I give Sex for Dummies a "Yes. YES. YESSSSS!!!".

Summary: If you are looking for techniques, look elsewhere
Review: A good book for people with very little sexual experience or knowledge. If you are looking for a hands-on guide for techniques to practice on your partner, then this is NOT the book you want to get.

Summary: Sex for Dummies (for Dummies)
Review: As a medical doctor specializing in adolescent and adult Psychiatry, I have found Dr Ruth's book extremely valuable as a non-threatening resource. Having met with her in May 2001 in New Orleans at the Annual American Psychiatric Association's meeting May 5-10th, I was amazed at her insights about Human Sexuality. Masters and Johnson brought to the Field of Medicine the Physiology of Sexuality, but Dr Ruth carries it to the next level of important knowledge re: Human Intimacy. It is not a "how to" book with the misguided concepts of the Hugh Hefner "Sex is a Triumph of Mechanical Engineering". Instead, she is down to earth, practical, and non-threatening...so that her readers learn and enjoy the basic realities that human sexuality need not be a "competitive sport" nor do couples need to adhere to their culteral expectations of the "Myth of the Mutual Orgasm"....I have had so many individuals and couples leave my office...seeing the book on my bookself...and perhaps at first laughing, only to purchase the book and devour it in the privacy of their own home. I have found it a valuable springboard in working with individuals and couples with sexual dysfunction. As for the person - Dr Ruth - she is delighful, empathic, great sense of humor, and is extremely well informed with the current scientific knowledge of Human Sexuality David L Bransford MD

Summary: There are much better books elsewhere...
Review: First, let me say I love the For Dummies series. But this book is no good - if you are looking for a book on improving your sex life like I was. It reads like a sex ed book and there isn't much information to help you spice up your sex life. (Granted, if you are a virgin this may provide some info.) This volume isn't even as humorous as many other "for dummies" books. Books like "The Joy of Sex" and those by Anne Hooper are much better.

So, find a copy of this book in the library, otherwise skip it.

Summary: The Title Makes This an Amusing Gag Gift
Review: I actually purchased the mini-version as a stocking stuffer for a friend of mine who had recently lost her virginity at a fairly late age. Everyone lauged at the title, but I doubt she's even read the book. This is probably a good thing, since it's about as imaginative as a fortune cookie. I thumbed through before giving it and all I have to say is: Weren't most of us BORN knowing this stuff?

Summary: Not for dummies, but for...teen-agers?
Review: I can't imagine that anybody over the age of eighteen hasn't figured out 95% of what's in this book. Her criticism of anal sex makes the book very much *not* safe-sex-oriented, so I can't even recommend it on that level. Try virtually any other book -- even "The Joy of Sex" is more sophisticated than this.

Summary: Great Book !!!
Review: I have studied sex more than most but it only took the first few pages in Chapter 1 for me to learn something new. Very easy to read and great reference.

Summary: Former Marathon Man
Review: I know it sounds rediculous, but I used to think that it was all about speed. I've learned through this book to atleast wait to get my pants off :)

Overall the book is very detailed and a great read for anyone with little to medium experience.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: I think this book is a great reference guide.
Review: I really got a lot out of reading this book. I learned things I never would have known. However, parts of it reminded me of a sex education textbook.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Not a "how to" book, but a "what is" book
Review: If you want a book which teaches you techniques and offers constructive suggestions on how to improve (or, I suppose, get started) in your sex life, you'll want to skip this one. Go grab a copy of the Kama Sutra or Joy of Sex for this kind of reference.

On the other hand, if you're a complete newbie to sex and/or would rather focus on the technical aspects such as diseases, pregnancy, and topics of a similar nature, this might be a good book for you. There's probably nothing here that you won't find on any free web site or even in the Johns Hopkins Family Health Book (which, for twice the price, you get everything under the sun instead of focusing only on sex-related topics).

So save yourself some time and money and avoid this book altogether.
