Summary: Fun light reading...
Review: Hey Dads, after you've finished your latest physics book or Grisham novel, settle in for some humorous light reading about your primary profession. Walter Roark obviously has great insight on the inane day-to-day tasks of being a father. You've just got to laugh at all these hectic episodes in your real life and Mr. Roark's book points this out beautifully.

Summary: just like life, only funnier!
Review: I bought this book for my fiance b/c we are hoping to be parents this year. It got such great reviews I wanted to read it myself first. It has its moments that make me laugh out loud, but some of it is just ridiculous. It does offer some good pointers, in the form of silly stories and questionaires. What disappoints me is the author's dreary perspective of a dad's role in parenting, continually saying that he will lose his identity once Baby comes, that he should get used to being on the "sidelines", and that he'll never be able to offer what Mommy can. It portrays dads as being ignored, helpless, distraught creatures at the mercy of Baby and their wives. If I were a soon-to-be father reading this book it would be unsettling, despite the humorous approach. But it's definitely a fun read as long as it's not taken seriously.

Summary: Amusing but not as helpful as hoped
Review: I bought this book for my husband just after the birth of our son. While it is indeed very amusing, we found the advice and information to be less helpful than we hoped. I would recommend instead The Joy of Fatherhood which outlines what to expect for each month of the first year.

Summary: Outstanding
Review: I bought this book on a lark as it was sitting at the checkout counter of my local bookstore. Nevertheless, I was pleased to find how funny and entertaining it is, and I did learn a few things about parenting.

This guy Roark is pretty observant, and he let's us Fathers into many of the secrets of being a good dad. I think "Keeping the Baby Alive..." deserves a wider audience as it strikes a excellent balance between humor and tangible, useful information.
Keep up the good work, Mr. Roark, and how about something on toddlers!!!

Summary: A Great Gift Book for Dads, Trust Me
Review: I loved this book because, as a new father learning my trade (so to speak) it gave me a break from all the pressure-packed, heavy advice books. With Keeping the Baby Alive, I could relax and laugh at the many ironies that come with child care. I also liked the book because I felt like it was written for me, an innocent young father who wants to do my best, but who also feels a little intimidated about infant care. The message here is 1) you don't have to be perfect and 2) you can actually have fun taking care of kids if you don't get too crazy and uptight about it. Besides, the book is just plain funny.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A Very Funny Book for New Fathers
Review: Keeping the Baby Alive gets right to the point of Father-Infant care...a great mix of humor and lighthearted advice. My sister gave it to me--she picked a really good gift. The "Pop" quizzes are so funny, whenever I need a good laugh, I read them over again. I understand there is a sequel on toddlers, and I am looking forward to reading that.

Review: Mr. Roark hits the nail on the head with this very funny, very real book. Any new Dad will be able to relate to "Keeping the Baby Alive...' It took me several years to realize that my husband was REALLY proud of himself whenever he took care of the kids - he thought he had done his job well---he had kept them alive until I got home! Buy this book as a gift for any new father - or any father, for that matter!

Summary: A Very Funny Book for New Fathers
Review: Roark's Keeping the Baby Alive is hysterically funny. Dads who don't know about the in's and out's of such fun events as diaper changing need this book. Those who know about it need this book to give them some needed perspective -- and belly laughs. I say, give it to all the dads in your life.
