Rating: Summary: That WAS then! Review: I MISS FREAKS & GEEKS! I think it was cancelled because it was written too well! TV and good writing are like oil and water! His book is a must read especially for those who grew up during the 70s! Feig's writing is bittersweetly reminiscent and if he writes more books I'll buy 'em! I know these people!
Rating: Summary: Freaks & Geeks: The Book! Review: I picked up this book because I loved the show Freaks & Geeks. You see, Paul Feig, author of this book, also created the show. This book definetly fits right along, side by side, with Freaks & Geeks.Paul Feig tells of his geeky and embarrasing adventure throughout school. Never have I laughed so much from reading a book. From his showering in gym escapade to the first time he discovered, erm, self love. This is a must read for anyone who ever felt left out or completely embarrased during their school days. In fact this should be part of the required reading for school kids so they can see it could always be worse. All jocks and cheerleader should pass, as they'll probably laughing at instead of with.

Rating: Summary: Geeks Unite Review: I'm a huge fan of Paul Feig's so i'm a little biased. I can say that i enjoyed every moment of this book. I honestly couldn't put it down. I laughed so much. Being a geek myself, i found myself being able to relate to almost every chapter. If you liked Freaks and Geeks as much as I did then you'll find Kick Me to be an excellent little supplement.
Rating: Summary: Recommended for all David Sedaris fans Review: If you enjoy reading anything by David Sedaris, I recommend "Kick Me" for a lighthearted weekend read. The more I read this book, the more it reminded me of Sedaris. I found myself laughing out loud and relating to the stories in more ways than expected. The chapter about Feig's short-lived job as the high school football announcer is a classic. "Freaks and Geeks" fans will not be disappointed and will find that a few chapters are strikingly similar to scenes from the television show.
Rating: Summary: Freaks and Geeks Continued Review: If you were a fan of the now defunct TV series FREAKS AND GEEKS, you'll certainly enjoy this book. Freaks and Geeks creator Paul Feig once again takes us down the dark alleys of adolescence complete with bullies, repugnant prom dates and sadistic gym teachers. This book will have you laughing out loud and even feeling sorry for Feig as he goes from one humilating geek experience to the next. A definite page turner!
Rating: Summary: Kick Me Review: Kick Me was engrossing and I had trouble putting it down. There were times when I was laughing, times when I was ready to cry and times when I wanted to kill some of the people for how they treated Paul. I could relate to some of his 'adventures' and since I've just recenlty come out of high school, I can very vividly recall my own. I have never seen Freaks and Geeks so this review is based on the book and the book alone. My favourite part of the book was the beginning of the first chapter. Paul talks about how it's not fair that kids are named such brutal names such as Cox or Seaman. It is my favourite part because it is SO true. Kids can take any name, any name at all and turn it into something that just asks to be teased about. Paul recounts his first loves, gym class, his first sexual stirrings, his fears and phobias, being bullied and most of all, being called a fag. Paul Feig was an adolescent in the 70's and everyone around him was calling everyone else a fag. Most of them probably didn't even know what it meant they just knew it was 'something they didn't want to be,' and so they called everyone else one. Having just recently read about Homophobia, it was disconcerting to see the word so many times throughout the book. However this is not the fault of the author, but of the ignorant people who let their kids get away with such rude words. Things are different now than they were in the 70's (so I'm told since I wasn't yet born) regarding homosexuality but it still irks me to no end how cruel and demeaning people can be. Anyone feeling the same way may have some troubles getting through that chapter as I did. This is just a warning and does not take away from the rating of this book. Kick me is written in an easy to read format and you don't have to be a college student to understand his writing. This is refreshing as a lot of books can be hard to follow if you don't have a certain level of reading ability. There is a lot of foul language in this book because Paul is recounting his adolescence and to block out what his peers said would greatly diminish the book. Although this is about adolescence, I would recommend this book to adults, not to adolescents. I would say 16 or over. There were a couple of times when I wanted to know more than what was published. I almost want to contact Mr. Feig to ask him some questions. For instance, when he talks about kissing Cathy and how by the look on her face, he isn't sure if it was the best or worst kiss she had ever gotten. That is the end of the chapter and I'd like to know what happened between them after that. Was it the best or the worst? Did they ever talk again? Or date again? Overall Kick Me was a well written and interesting book and it's nice to see something different being published.
Rating: Summary: Painfully Realistic Review: Mr. Feig's tale is a painfully realistic account of growing up account in the 1970s. I definately could relate to many of the autobiographical essays, as I am also in my late 30s. But I do feel people of any age can relate. Fans of the Freaks and Geeks television series will find many of the essays ended up as plot lines for various episodes. I highly recommend the book.
Rating: Summary: Laugh out loud, can't catch your breath funny! Review: Paul Feig has acquired a real legion of fans as a result of his television show "Freaks and Geeks." And justifiably so. "Freaks and Geeks" was one of the best shows in the last twenty years. Feig's book "Kick Me" is just as enjoyable. As others here have commented the book contains equal doses of cringing and laughter. For most of us adolescence was painful and Paul's was off the scale. But his sense of humour and writing talents make his tales of teenaged angst a pleasure to read.
