Summary: Fantastic book that helps alleviate common pregnancy fears
Review: When I first discovered that I was pregnant I became slightly paranoid about what to expect and took the whole pregnancy thing almost too seriously. This book basically helped me lighten up. I found out that it was okay to laugh at myself and all of the strange emotions and cravings instead of worrying myself sick. The book offers great advice on everything from how to curb morning sickness to how to put together a decent-looking maternity wardrobe. I would recommend this book to all who are pregnant whether it's their first or last baby. Now when I experience those moments of paranoia I look back on this book and have a good laugh at it and, most importantly, myself.

Summary: I laughed from cover to cover!!!
Review: Mrs. Iovine is the mother of four so she really knows what it's like to be pregnant! She doesn't bore you with the mundane details of each of her own pregnancies, instead, she uses witty humor and the knowledge of her many "girlfriends" to keep your attention. I also purchased What to Expect When You're Expecting by Arlene Eisenberg, et al, and found the two to be vastly different. Mrs. Iovine tends to lean more towards a positive, funny and non-scientific format. Mrs. Eisenberg uses a lot of medical terminology, and focuses a lot on negative things that can happen to you during a pregnancy. However, I found both books to be valuable resources, although I would suggest "Girlfriend" first. Being pregnant can sometimes make you feel a little bit crazy, and this book brings into focus the fact that, HEY...we all go through pretty much the same thing...enjoy your pregnancy.

Summary: Out of ALL the hundreds of pregnancy books, this is a MUST!!
Review: I found this book and read it in my first few months of pregnancy, It had me both laughing and crying. Vicki tells it ALL and even more, she holds no punches, but tells it with enough humor that even you can laugh at your hemorroids, bloating, and other "joys" of pregnancy. This is a book that answers all those embarrasing questions in "real english". A serious, yet seriously funny pregnancy book. Vicki's other book "Girlfriend's Guide to Baby's First Year" is just as wonderful, and very useful BEFORE delivery too.

Summary: A must read for first timers!
Review: This book is not only accurate, but hysterical. With this being my first pregnancy, It not only answers many questions that keep running through my mind, but, helps me maintain a sense of humor. It truly touches on subjects that you do not want to bring up to your doctor! I haven't stopped giggling yet!

Summary: Read it, relax, & remember to have a good time
Review: Vicki's book is terrific. I read 8-10 books on preg. and related the most to THE GIRLFRIEND'S GUIDE.... No, the medical advice isn't there- however, the practical advice is. So many passages made me laugh and relax. (What I wanted most was to enjoy the experience and have a healthy baby.) Vicki's book skillfully navigates the mysteries of a pregnant woman's ever-changing body & mind. I thank her for writing a book that reminds us how wonderful, uncomfortable, magical, and goofy it is to be preggers. Also, read: BABY WISE, before the baby comes- if you want that newborn to learn to sleep thru the night- the parent directed feeding method works! Both books- are baby "bibles".

Summary: Very light hearted and humorous - very true to life.
Review: I have read this book and loved it so much sent it to a pregnant girlfriend.

It was a very light hearted approah to pregnancy and its triumphs and downfalls that I have now read it twice in a month. You can relate entirely to everything this woman writes about which makes it a very down to earth book, full of brilliant sensible advice in terms you understand and which doesn't give you unrealistic expectations of yourself or pregnancy.

I highly recommend this book, you will be glad you read it too.

Summary: Wonderful
Review: Such a refreshing change from the ponderous, preachy books out there (What to Expect comes to mind). Vicki tells it like it is. News flash, people--the baby won't die if you bottle feed, stretch marks suck, natural childbirth is painful and masochistic, and you can deliver a healthy babe without eating wheat germ every day. The Pregnancy Nazis out there hate this book, but the rest of us love it.

Summary: Funny, but not really relevant to my life
Review: I found her attitude towards exercise rather ridiculous. I understand that some woman can't or don't want to exercise during pregnancy. I don't think its right for her to raise the fears of causing miscarriage in those women who chose to exercise. Yes - she's not a doctor - but sometimes we tend to pu t a lot of faith in the written word. I also felt that her attitude towawrds men was rather old-fashioned. Maybe because i'm an engineer - and am accustomed to working with men in an environment of equality - I just don't see her point of view. I did think she was unfair in her assessment of men. I am sure there are men out there who come close to matching her stereotypes - but there are so many men out there who understand that having and raising children is as much their responsibility as it is their wives. Finally - I found her dismissal of many ideas (lamaze, the family bed) to be quite prejudicial. But its her book - and she can write it as she chooses. I guess having read it - I regret buying it - just because we both seem to be from entirely different worlds. But i'm sure that this book would appeal to many.

Summary: OK she's funny, but very cynical & dangerously inaccurate.
Review: This book is clever and after four births (everything from being knocked out to completely natural childbirth) I admit I recognized most of the experiences she describes. However, anyone with girlfriends like this should get birthing advice from somewhere else. Few women ever have a chance to do anything even half so important as giving birth to a child and they deserve far better support and advice than they get in this book. They should get the Birth Book by William and Martha Sears. Cynicism does not enhance a beautiful experience.

Summary: Extremely humorous look at pregnancy!
Review: I read the other pregnancy books and found myself becoming more and more paranoid about every sign and possible symtom I was experiencing. Vicki's book helped to put a positive, humorus spin on pregnancy and the changes that my body is going through. Thanks Vicki!
