Summary: The best book you'll read about being pregnant.
Review: I read this book and have never laughed so much. It is very informative and helpful, but also truthful and blunt. It is so neat to read about things you can relate so closely to like the stages of pregnancy. It's even funnier to read after you have the baby. Every pregnant woman would love this as a gift for a shower or for the baby's birth.

Summary: It's about time
Review: Finally, a book that gives us the low down dirty truth! I got this book before I even decided that I wanted to get pregnant. (I wanted to know what I was getting myself into!) I read the whole book in two evenings...couldn't put it down. Even with all the raw details, I walked away feeling inspired and ready for the challenge. Not only was this book informative, it was also absolutely hilarious! A must read for anyone wanting to start a family. (And not for the super sappy)

Summary: Will Make You Laugh
Review: The Girlfriends' Guide really is like sitting down with your girlfriends and comparing notes about being pregnant. I laughed at many of the comments because I could relate to what "the girls" were saying since I too, had felt those things and thought those thoughts when I was pregnant. If you can laugh at yourself, you'll enjoy this book. I also recommend A Child is Born - the pictures are great, and We're Pregnant! - the best book for an expecting couple that I have read.

Summary: The Only Book You Need!
Review: This is the best of the crop of "expecting" books. It covers all the bases, and it's VERY funny. Unlike some others, it's never preachy or sappy, and it's superbly practical. If you only read one book, this is the one you must get!

Summary: The best guide for first-time mothers ever made
Review: There are hundreds of books for expectant mothers out there, but Vicki Iovine's book has got to be the most reassuring and comforting of them all. She gives you the straight dope on everything from morning sickness to maternity clothes to labor itself. Furthermore, she does it all with such wit and humor that it helps dispel many fears a new mother may have.

By the time you finish reading this book, you'll feel you know Iovine and her Girlfriends personally. She shares both her and their experiences, and it all gives great reassurance. The best part of this guide is that finally someone is being honest with you. She helps describe what's happening to you now, what to expect at different stages, and what's going to happen when the baby comes. She tells you everything frankly, as one of your own girlfriends would. This book was my "pregnancy bible," and I never would have been able to handle it all as well as I did without having that book constantly by my side!

Summary: very witty and honest summary of intimate details of peg.
Review: I think the book was very informative and witty and I ended up reading all 250 pgs in about 3 days (and I'm not even pregnant yet!) Gives good information about the more embarrassing and not discussed issues in pregnancy, plus information on things you wouldn't even think to ask. Vicki obviously knows what she's talking about, and does it in her own comical way, without offending people. I think you need to read the whole book not just a 1 paragraph excerpt, because while she does state HER views (which you may not always agree with), she usually gives opposing views from her friends that went through pregnancy also. I definitely recommend it for anyone who is going through their first pregnancy and doesn't have a lot of resources (other pregnant friends) to explain things to them.

Summary: These generalizations are untrue and very annoying.
Review: Hey, "Girlfriend", not everyone hates pregnancy, gets hemmorroids, has a beauty-obsessed husband and gains 40 pounds! Regarding exercise, I don't know anyone who stopped because they didn't look good in their leotard. Vicki, wear a big shirt and get over it! Kudos to the reviewers who kept exercising as it makes the rough parts of pregnancy more bearable.

For those of you unfortunate enough to be reading this book during your 1st pregnancy, don't be too alarmed, Vicki exaggerates like there is no tomorrow. I had a rough pregnancy but I do realize that some women enjoy it. My question to Vicki is, if you hated it this much, why did you have so many children?

Summary: Best prenatal book i've read including Dr. Spock
Review: This book not only was very practical but also so funny I couldn't read it a night when everyone else was sleeping from laughing so loud. Best prenatal book, a must have for expecting mothers.

Summary: Glad this Girlfriend told me like it is !!
Review: While expecting my first child, The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy was the first book I bought. I had heard about Vicki's "tell it like it is" attitude, which is what I was looking for. At the beginning of my pregnancy, I was not ready for the technical and medical terms, just wanted to wet my (swollen) feet. I must say, I LOVED IT! I read as much as a could, anywhere I could, on the train, in bed, in the car. I laughed out loud so many times that my husband asked, "What's in there that's so funny?!" I have already recommended Vicki's book to expectant and non-expectant moms many times.

Summary: A NO NONSENCE APROACH TO PREGNANCY! FUN AND INFORMATIONAL!
Review: My girlfriend let me borrow her copy of this book, and I read it right away. Then I bought a copy for myself. It has practical information, all the stuff people dont talk about, and it is really useful information, put in words we all can understand. A definite must for any one pregnant or even thinking of becoming pregnant! ( I also recommed the Girlfriends guide to preg daily diary, a great companion to the book...)
