Rating: Summary: Fabulously Funny Review: As a first time mom, I found this book extremely helpful and witty - a needed escape from the well-meaning 'advice' I was getting from total strangers. Well-written, it covers questions I never thought to ask my doctor as well as humorous anecdotes to which I could relate.
Rating: Summary: The BEST! Review: This is the BEST pregnancy book ever! I read it when I was pregnant with my first child and re-read when I was pregnant with my second and will probably read it with each subsequent pregnany. It was so nice to have a "girlfriends" point-of-view and down and dirty advice. She speaks the truth and she would know after four kids. I also have her second book "Girlfriends Guide to Surviving the First Year" and that is just as good! This book is much better than all those medical mumbo jumbo books that just make you worry more. This one will ease your mind and just make you laugh. Hold on to your belly when you read this one!
Rating: Summary: GREAT NON STRESS, FUNNY BOOK Review: I LOVED IT SO MUCH I AM PLANNING ON BUYING ALL THE OTHER BOOKS SHE HAS PLUBLISHED. NON MEDICAL OR STRESS RELATED MATERIAL. BUT FOUND IT CONFORTING, EASY TO READ, FUNNY AND GREAT HELP TO MAKE MY HUSBAND UNDERTAND I WAS NOT GOING CRAZY. I TRULY THINK ANY PREGNANT WOMAN SHOULD READ THIS BOOK IS ONLY BECAUSE THE THINGS IN IT ARE TRUE AND FUNNY, WHO NEEDS MORE STRESS...
Rating: Summary: Humorous Look at Pregnancy Review: I read this book in the week we found out I was pregnant & laughed through the whole thing. I give my husband much more credit than the author gives men in general, but it was still an entertaining, easy read. I recommend this book as a supplement to all of the serious, practical reading that you'll do throughout your pregnancy. I am glad I read this book before other books and articles scared me into thinking that I must be doing permanent damage to my unborn baby by not eating vegetables every day. It's a unique look at pregnancy, and I recommend it for every mom-to-be who wants to not take herself too seriously.
Rating: Summary: An uplifiting break from those "technical" pregnancy books Review: While this book does not offer much in the way of medical data, it is an absolutely riotous look at pregnancy and all of its "side effects". Being a newly pregnant with my first child, I really appreciated being able to laugh at this pregnancy thing in the midst of all of my paranoia - of course, being so hormonal, I was in tears too.
Rating: Summary: Relax! Pregnancy can be fun! Review: I was first introduced to this book by an expecting mother while browsing through shelves after shelves of books on pregnancy at one of my local bookstores. I was 3 month pregnant at that time and had just quit my high pressure Silicon Valley job. At that time, I've been reading several books dealing with preganancy. However, although most of those books are very informative in nature, you can be overwhelmed easily by the seriousness of their contents. If you are expecting, you know that one thing you absoutely DON't need is to get yourself "overwhelmed". This is book that will bring you lots of smile while reading it! In fact, I brought this book with me on a 14-hour flight to Asia, and I was not tired or bored even a bit! I would not substitute this book for other so called "prefessional reference book" on pregnancy. However, after you have learned all the medical terms, you reallsy deserve something that will get you out of the pregnancy blue. This book will for sure delight you while still providing lots of good "tips" and "advice" as if your best friends would have told you. For those of you who are thinking about taking a short trip during your second trimester, don't forget to bring this book with you as well. It will help you relax and add more fun to your pregnancy! By the way, this is also a book that you may want your husband to read it during weekend. It helps!
Rating: Summary: Too funny Review: I liked the book, but Vicki's husband made me realize how wonderful mine is. He is totally involved in this experience, and I have to say...it is not because he has too much time on his hands, it is because he really cares and is excited by our new situation. In this book, Vicki gives some good advice, but I think she would have had better pregnancies if her husband had been supportive and not such a needy selfish baby.
Rating: Summary: Both I and my wife found this the best book on pregnancy Review: The most telling anecdote in this book, which is full of hysterical ones, is about a birthing teacher who came to the author's home, to coach her through the "magic of birth". The problem was, this teacher had never given birth, and so was full of new age rubbish, and got shown the door. The great thing about this book is that it is by someone who HAS given birth, and can write about it, and does not take herself too seriously, even though she has the right to, after four kids. The key is that the advice is based on real life, from the actual experiences of the author and her friends. So it's not based on theoretical rules, and starts from the premise that what works for one person, may not work for another. This is VITAL, because no matter what your doctor or mother tells you, every pregnancy or child is unique, and needs to be approached that way. I would particularly recommend this book for prospective fathers as it gives you a woman's eye perspective of the whole thing, so you have some idea of what your partner is going through, and how you should act. It will help you tread that fine line between doing too much, and doing too little. Mothers-to-be will want to push this on their partners, as it encourages them to buy diamonds for the mother of their child, as a reward! You won't find that in the standard textbooks! So do yourself a favour, and buy this book - it will make the whole process a whole lot more fun, which is why we are doing it, after all. If we are honest, parenthood is terrifying, even though people as incompetent as our own parents seemed to manage. This book will help you manage, and help remind you that this is an achievement in itself.
Rating: Summary: A hilarious lifesaver! Review: I love this book! It is so informative and real but completely entertaining. It tells you all of the little things that some other books leave out or don't give enough weight too (i.e. cramping, hair dyeing, etc). I am so thankful this was recommended to me and anyone who finds it the least bit offensive should probably go straight to the self-help section of this website for some relaxation tips.
Rating: Summary: Feel Good Book Review: This book is a factual but hilarious view at the trials of pregnancy. I laughed through the entire book because she says exactly what I have been feeling. It is the first book I have bought that actually felt like someone understands!! I can't say enough about it - it is definately a must have for every pregnant woman.
