Rating: Summary: Funny and calming Review: This book was great. The author was really funny but at the same time she was very informative. Whenever I was afraid that something bad or strange was happening to me, this book calmed me right down. The only criticism I can give it is that it's not organized in the best way. I would have liked to see it as more of a month by month book.
Rating: Summary: Pseudo science idiotic advice Review: This book is full of idiotic advice from a woman who knows nothing about medicine, math, or common sense. In the opening pages she states that women are pregnant for 40 weeks so they must be pregnant for 10 months. Someone should loan her a calendar so she can realize that only ONE month has 4 weeks in it. The book then continues with dozens of trite pregnancy stories that are more boring than funny.
Rating: Summary: A huge source of comfort Review: Funny, practcal book you can read aloud to your husband and say, "See? See? And you thought I was crazy, but I am not alone!" Highly reccomend it.
Rating: Summary: I loved this book!!! A must have Review: This book was really fun to read. I did not want to know all the things that COULD go wrong, I just wanted to know what to expect. I had no idea your body changed so much when you're pregnant, and reading her book helped me to know all these things were normal. Plus she is VERY funny!
Rating: Summary: comical, what a friend would tell you... Review: this is a more light hearted book than any other pregnancy book you'll read. The author admits constantly to not knowing medical reasons for the way things happen during pregnancy but can add some laughter to the changes you're body and emotions are going through. There is one extremely disturbing chapter which makes me discount the whole book, that is her recommendation not to exercise which every pregnant mom knows is a no-no, every doctor will tell you smart exercise is good and helps the baby - for that reason I can not recommend this book to anyone to take anything seriously in it, it's one ladies perspective and she was lucky enough to be able to get it published - take it all as it is - pure gossip and strictly her advise.
Rating: Summary: A Treasured Find Review: At 32, I am the first of all of my friends to become pregnant. Sure, I have the advice of older generations. But, no girlfriend to actually pull me aside and tell me the stuff that my mother either doesn't remember or wouldn't tell me anyway. Vicki feels like a real girlfriend of mine. Very well written - as soon as questions would pop into my head, she'd answer them in the next paragraph. I feel like calling her up and chatting with her!
Rating: Summary: I like What to Expect better. Review: I did not use this book as a reference as frequently as I used What to Expect. What to Expect follows a detailed month by month format. This book's format is not as easy to use.
Rating: Summary: That Vicki broad is funny Review: Vicki is hilarious. I am pregnant with my first and have read ALL the staple "how to be pregnant guides." When I stumbled across Vicki Iovine's The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy, I was looking for levity. What I found was sound advice, English translations of things I'd read before, and many bouts of laughter aloud. As someone 10,000 miles away from their home country, reading the "Guide" was like meeting an old girlfriend for lunch. As a cynical journalist, my humor bar is high but Vicki sailed over it like one of my best friends.
Rating: Summary: This book is funny, but not very helpful. Review: This book has a great sense of humor about pregnancy, but has some really stupid advice in it. I do not agree with the author that you should quit exercising during pregnancy. Her theory is that you are going to get fat anyhow so why bother exercising. Exercise during pregnancy can help alleviate some of the more nasty symptoms, like one of the author's favorites... Hemorrhoids. This is not a good book for people who are going to take the author's advise seriously. It is also not a book for anyone who is thinking about natural, unmedicated childbirth. It is perfect for the always on a diet, can't live without hair dye set though...
Rating: Summary: A funny, honest look at pregnancy Review: I bought this book for myself during my first pregnancy, and found it helpful in looking at the lighter side of pregnancy gripes (both physical and emotional).
