Review: I found this book absolutely hilarious. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was that is doesnt recommend exercise, and I find that rediculous!! But the book was great and definately lifted my spirits!!

Summary: WARNING!!!
Review: If you are overweight, or even sensitive about your weight, don't read this book! Iovine can't resist saying "fat" without adding "and ugly" and she states in the beginning that overweight couch potatoes are not welcome in her circle of "girlfriends." Towards the end of the book, she discusses the pregnant waddle, and reasons that all fat people waddle a bit anyway. She sympathizes with her husband for not being attracted to her. After all, you wouldn't want to sleep with someone as fat as you, right? And she confides that her maternity wardrobe ran all the way up to a (gasp) size ten! The horror!
Although this book was very entertaining and had some good information, I got tired of being slapped every couple of pages. The author simply can't resist seperating her temporarily round self from those of us who struggle with our weight all the time. Does she not realize that the average American woman is a size 14? I really felt like I was reading this book as an outsider, so I waited until a skinny friend got pregnant and gave it to her.
And by the way, Ms. Iovine, I am a size 16 and my husband can't keep his hands off me. It would take a lot more than pregnancy and dark roots to push him away. If your husband is that picky about your looks, I feel sorry for you.

Review: I enjoyed this book because of its straight talk and because it wasn't nearly as scary or confusing as some others. The only problem is that it isn't as informative as some.

Summary: The ONLY and BEST pregnancy book you'll ever need
Review: This book was the very best. It was funny, it was light-hearted, it was truthful, it was honest, it told you things nobody else would. What more could you want when you're going through the most bizarre (and frightening) experience of your life? Who ever talks about what happens *right after* the baby pops out? Nobody. And let me tell you, the fun doesn't end just because the baby's out. I got this book from a friend--the only friend of mine that had had a baby at the time. She said she loved the book and thought I would too. I did. In fact, I loved it so much I just passed it onto my husband's cousin who is expecting next summer. At times when I couldn't get comfortable to do *anything* and thought I was losing my mind this book kept my sanity (what there was to keep) and let me know all the things my body was doing were NORMAL if you could believe that. This truly was the very best book.

Summary: Your REAL No-nonsense Guide
Review: Forget about "What to Expect When You're Expecting" and "The Mother of All Pregnancy Books." (I've read both, and I couldn't tell you which is more boring or sterile.) The Girlfriend's Guide is the real deal. Vicki Iovine's approach is frank, funny, and a breath of fresh air compared to other pre-natal books. She (and, don't forget her girlfriends!) covers everything from when the baby is conceived to when you bring him home in terms that are UNDERSTANDABLE--the way you'd want to hear it from a friend. Instead of using medical terms up front, you'll see a word like "Squishy," with the medical term behind it in parentheses. There are stories about fears, successes, miscarriages, the 9-months' pregnant waddle, what to bring to the hospital for your special day, and reasons why asking your husband if he still finds you attractive in your 38th week is a complete waste of time. BUY THIS BOOK! You will not be disappointed

Summary: I recommend this book for any first-time expectant mother
Review: Not only was there some very practical information that you will not find in any 'guide' (such as the maternity clothes you really need and will wear), but it is a wonderful way to reduce any stress you may have as a first-time pregnant women: it will leave you laughing at your anxieties and you will not want to put the book down. I read this book cover-to-cover in one day. This book and the 'What to Expect...' book were the guides for my pregnancy. This book really is everything you need to know that you won't find out from your doctor.

Summary: Really tells it how it is...
Review: This is the best pregnancy book I have read so far. The author is really blunt and tells it exactly how it is. It truly is like talking to your best friend. You get the dirty truth on everything. You hear the good but you also hear the bad. The author uses curse words every now and then that I could probably do without but then again so does a good friend of mine now and then. This book is by far worth every dime you pay for it. I am going to purchase one for any of my friends and relative that become pregnant in the future!

Review: I wanted something that was fun to read and was also informative, and I found that it might be fun to read, but not packed with the type of information I was looking for. I also found that the book described situations that may not be applicable to me, so I couldn't really relate. For example, I don't have close girlfriends who'd just had babies. I also didn't find the style very grabbing or amusing. So I returned this book and got "What to expect when you're expecting" and "Your pregnancy week by week."
