I hope you love soy cheese, milk etc. as that is what this book is all about, health and NO MEAT. I think she has good ideas but the products are not very practical for the everyday person. You are also asked to throw out most of your current kitchen products and cleaners. She will give you other options which are not time efficient or pratical in my opnion but very environmentally sound. This would be a great book for a retired person or a full time at home mother who has older children and can spend the time required to do all of the things in the book.

Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Good Recipes -- Not-So-Good Writing Review: The recipes seem to work and are tasty, unfortunately, I felt nauseaus with the writing. I believe only because of Marilu's celebrity status did she get away with her atrocious writing. She uses the phrase "Listen up" in one of her recipes, which may sound okay being said in person, but reading the phrase felt patronizing and outright stupid. The editorial remarks in regards to how much "Joey/boys loved this and loved that and wanted it in his/their lunchbox" started getting sickening after a while. I doubt regular Joe writers who are struggling and working hard to get published would have so much leniency from a major publishing house editor as Marilu has. But I guess when you're a former, famous TV star, the writing/editorial content doesn't matter. Marilu can get away with anything. Her name alone will sell the book. Sadly, this is the second book of Marilu's I have stumbled upon thrown in a box in front of a bookstore being given away for free.

Review: This book fills a void for fans of Marilu's 30-Day Makeover book and program. After repeating the recipes in that book several times (most of which were very good and pleasing to family and guests), and attempting variations in keeping with the spirit and rules of the program, readers were eager for more recipes from Marilu. This book provides more excellent recipes, many of which are simpler and less expensive to prepare than those in the earlier book. Also, because the recipes are coordinated with the week-by-week plan in the 30-Day Makeover book, it is possible to repeat the 30-day regime without succumbing to culinary boredom.The only real problem with the book is that much of the introductory text is a rehash of much of the text in her prior two books - which already contained a fair amount of duplicate material. This rather wastes the reader's money. It would have been better to include more recipes and refer new readers back to the earlier books. Nonetheless, I have appreciated this new effort and my family is again enjoying the results of my use of Marilu's recipes while I know that they are getting nutritious meals.

Review: This book is put together so well for the person that is moving into a healthier, lactose-free lifestyle. The recipes are varied in cost, simplicity and taste. It's great to have a good selection of both simple, "comfort" foods and more complicated, "gourmet" dishes. I'm not an expert cook, but I found the recipes to be very easy to follow and the information supplied in addition to the recipes to be helpful and highly useful. I also appreciated the lack of recipes that depend of finding cheese substitutes. I found this book to be a very handy tool in making the transition into a healthier diet.

I really enjoyed it. Marilu is obviously passionate about her lifestyle and it shows! I already try to live by the steps in Marilu's Total Health Makeover so this book expanded my options so to speak. As wonderful as Healthy Life Kitchen is, if you haven't read Marilu's other books you may not be ready for this one. But by all means, buy Total Health Makeover and with time, you'll be ready to devour this one. Following the Total Health Makeover plan will change your life forever. I know it's made a major difference in mine.
