Summary: A Better Life
Review: After choosing to make my life a healthier one at 20 years old, I turned to Marilu Henner's book Total Health Makeover to get me started. I lost 10 pounds since I first purchased that and the 30 Day Total Health Makeover! This book, Healthy Life Kitchen, gives you a lot of great recipes and other advice to live healthy. I've olny tried a few recipes so far in this book, but they taste great and can't wait to get started on the rest!

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Pseudo-nutrition given the star treatment
Review: After looking through this book and Ms. Henner's other books, I'm left with a nagging impression - what in the world does she know about nutrition? What qualifies her to tell people what to eat to stay "healthy"? She writes as if she's an expert, but she is not. What she is is a television actress and for some reason that holds a great deal of credibility with the American public. Some of her views are incredibly outrageous and scientifically unfounded.

Bottom line, if you're looking for a book on nutrition, purchase one written by a registered dietician, not a television actress.

Summary: I think...I like it!
Review: alright, hi! I read this book...I am a teen, and I've been avoiding dairy...I really believe it could be connected to nasal congestion and acne. I do feel clearer (no more phlegm). however, I am not decidedly cutting out sugar, meat, and dairy for the rest of my life (hey, I still have experimenting to do/find my own "thing")...Anyway, one thing I've taken away from this book is soy milk...I started to drink soy milk in replace of regular milk and I don't know if I'll ever think of downing milk from a glass the same way again....ewww. This book also has really good information on toxic preservatives...she lists them (grouped Most Dangerous, Not Sufficiantly Tested, and found to actually be Good for you i.e.- spices, etc.) I do agree that the Food Combining section is confusing..and a little impractical (are u really going to "add a legume dish" to the recipes Marilu gives that don't complete the food-combining system?) However, I'm making recipes from her book, and so far, so good...The KILLER BROWNIES are GREAT..I made meat-loaf (made of Gimme Lean soy- yes, btw that may be another thing, the ingredients are organic/may seem hard to find- but I'm finding it, nevertheless in grocery stores near me...Health Food stores are GREAT...)_> my sis, stepdad, and mom loved the meatloaf dish (I thought it was 3/5 stars- a little salty but good.)
I DEFINITELY recommend at least reading the beginning part of her book (especially her basic "no meat, dairy, sugar" advocation...) ...Perhaps it will change your life, somehow...(esp. "no dairy" <-- which I read in one of her other books is what she would most encourage you to follow, out of the three she says to jettison.) You can take away what you want from this book..which is what I think is great/cool about all books ;]

~Melissa
p.s. The more I read, the more I find that people can make an argument for ANYTHING...it's interesting because I just spent like 30 min. checking out websites discussing the toxins in soy milk...the benefits of soy milk...same for dairy. I think...just trust your own body..and go with/believe what u want.

Summary: Every page is yummier than the last!
Review: Another wonderful step on the journey to health, lead by Marilu Henner with her incredible energy, great information and sense of humor.

You will have fun reading this book, there is well-researched information on health - AND to top it off there are really yummy recipes throughout. The recipes are EASY - new cooks will have no trouble, advanced cooks will get good recipes and good ideas on healthy substitutions for meat, dairy, and sugar. A wonderful complement to her other health books - Don't miss it!

Summary: For Those who are SERIOUS and Ready for a Healthier Life
Review: EXCELLENT book! Several health issues of my own led me to look for SERIOUS ways to help myself feel better and rid myself of nagging health problems. After making a few basic changes on my own, one of which was cutting out coffee, I discovered Marilu's cook book. I have been so thrilled with the pages of important information in it as well as, if not more than, the recipes themselves. So many of the things she tells you will happen once you've changed this or that in your diet have really been true for me. If you eat nothing but fried chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans most of the time and are not familiar with the huge variety of other foods available to eat, then this book will be harder for you to jump into immediately. If you are SERIOUS about changing your health positively, have an open mind to try a wide variety of different foods and to quit making up excuses for living the same old way, then read both her companion book Total Health Makeover AND The Healthy Life Kitchen. They make a wonderful team for keeping you motivated, with in-depth explanations, plenty of pictures and delicious recipes. I've been giving copies of them both to my friends and family because I like them both so much. And I DO feel the difference in myself! The health issues that once plagued me are almost a thing of the past. Her books are not for those seeking quick-fix diets that don't last, but are for those seeking a truthful, life-long approach to living a healthy life.

Summary: My most-used cookbook!
Review: Fabulous cookbook...and I am PICKY. I can usually pick 3-5 recipes from any cookbook that I would ever make , but this book really has it all. I can't imagine anyone not liking the recipes I have tried from this book.

Try the cilantro corn chowder in the excerpt...AWESOME!!!! It also includes a 'walk' through a health food store with Marilu ,the benefits of food combining, methods of cooking, best oils to use and sooo much more useful info., related in a 'talking to best friend' kind of way. Great photos as well, which I find personally very important in a cookbook.

There are 2 things I couldn't put down. This book and my cup of S o y f e e. It's made from organic soyabeans which you brew just like coffee. No caffeine and I don't miss it either. Look for on the web at www. S oycoffee.com. Well done and thank you Marilu for helping to change our eating habits.

Summary: Great stuff! (and more than just food)
Review: I am a true believer of the diry-free, sugar-free lifestyle. This book proves you can eat well without sacrificing cake--I am making the decadent chocolate cake for my daughter's second b-day party! There's also a GREAT section on natural household cleaning and of course lots of organizational tips. Marilu even explains different cooking processes! I loved this book and plan to use it often!

Summary: great marilu again!!
Review: I definitally reccommend this book to ALL marilu fans. Marilu has done it again and this colorful book is very very perfect to go along with her first few books. This is a great book to add to your collection

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Very unclear
Review: I found that this book was very vague about certain important nutritional facts, such as a good description of what complex carbohydrates are. It is as if she assumes you have read either her other books or some other nutritional books before reading this one. It is not for the nutritional layman. Also, these foods that she recommends you eat are not very readily available in all areas, and are generally more costly than foods more commonly found in supermarkets. It is nice looking book, but it is not much more useful than that.
