Summary: The Hellers Saved My Life!
Review: I've lost close to 100 pounds by following the Hellers advice. I've never been healthier or felt better. Thank you so much Richard and Rachael. You are life savers!

Summary: Have you bothered to read the book?
Review: If the two people in the negative reviews had bothered to read the books by Richard F. Heller and Dr. Rachael Heller they'd realise that the Drs are not telling you to eat no carbohydrates but simply switch when you eat them. The plan is easy to follow and works well. I've been waiting for a cookbook to make the plan easier to follow. I've tried some of the recipes in the back of the plan book and they work well and are tasty. I would highly recommend this diet but I would also recommend that you talk to your own doctor first before starting any diet.

Review: It is okay, really simple but some of them is kind of boring and blah tasting

Summary: FINALLY, THE COOKBOOK!
Review: It's about time is all I can say! I've bought all the Hellers other books & have been using them. While each of their books have been helpful at helping me keep up with the program, I frankly found the recipes kind of duplicative. This book is refreshing! It's totally re-motivated me on the Hellers diet (promise it can do the same for you!), because it's given me tons of new meals to try. You can't get bored with this diet plan now. By they way, if you haven't tried the Hellers diet, you should. Beyond the fact that I've lost 20 pounds, I've also been able to significantly cut down my daily insulin medication. The only thing I've changed about my lifestyle is my diet, so it ain't hard to figure out what's helping! Thanks for FINALLY giving us great, real-world recipes that ANY ONE can make and enjoy!

Summary: No nutritional information is a let down
Review: None of the recipes tell you

1) How many calories are in each serving.
2) How many carbs are in each serving.
3) How much protein is in each serving.
4) How much fat is in each serving.

Regardless of the taste of the recipes, without basic nutritional information how can anyone truely keep track of their intake.

This was a terrible let down for me.

Summary: Does not follow diet guidelines
Review: Not only are the majority of the recipes not "low-carb" as defined by the Heller's (under 4g for complimentary meals), this book does not outline the nutritional guidelines and how many carbs the recipes do contain. Dont fool yourself, you cannot cook everything in this book and assume it follows the diet that is the Carbohydrate Addicts Diet (which by the way, does work very very well if the guidelines are followed).

Summary: They call this a cookbook?
Review: Ok, well maybe I'm a cookbook snob, but I couldn't fathom some of these "recipes". Baked Brie? I mean come on... who needs a recipe to put a wheel of Brie into the oven?? Or putting sausage in the oven with mustard slathered all over it, or rolling up some chicken and mustard in a lettuce leaf. These are more IDEAS but RECIPES??? I will admit to loving Bon Appetit and Jacques and Julia, so you'll need to relate there to get me. Plus, most of their recipes call for "teriyaki sauce"??? It's like my grandma making hundreds of recipe that call for Mrs. Dash. What do they mean "teriyaki sauce"? If they really mean that , it has sugar or corn syrup in it. If not, is this meaning soy sauce? If so, why is it in EVERYTHING??? I love low carb food, but this cookbook did not help me come to that love.

Summary: Read this book before you condemn this eating plan!
Review: The Hellers should not be roped into the "high-fast, low carbohydrate" camp and dismissed. When you actually read one of their books, you'll see they aren't saying no carbs, they're pushing for you to eat "smart carbs". They're not bacon and cream freaks like Atkins, or saying the only starch you can eat is oatmeal, like the Zone. They're saying the majority of your calories should come from lean protiens, healthy fats like olive oil, and, yes, carbohydrates like vegetables. Sounds OK to me! You can actually have whatever carbs you like, whether they be fruits, pastas, or breads, in limited portions, every day through reward meals. I, like a lot of others, have changed the way I look at food because of the Hellers. I'm slimmer, my cholestrol is down, and, most importantly, I feel great. And I'm eating smart, like the Hellers have been saying all along.

But, what about this book. Well, I love it! The recipes in this book are great -- the Hellers know we have lives and can't always spend hours in the kitchen, but we still need to prepare delicious healthy meals for us and our families. I recommend it highly!
