Rating: Summary: Yummmm Review: Actually some of the recipes are boring and sooooo basic but some of them are so easy to make as well as yummy. It seems like they use a lot of heavy cream and sour cream so better stock up the fridge with these 2 items..:) My personal favorite is the chicken Aromabatzis..it is soo good !!
Rating: Summary: Fabulous and Fun Cooking Review: After being on the Hellers Lifespan program now for over 5 months I anxiously awaited a cookbook with easy to follow and easy to cook recipes. Well, boy I found it. The meals are quick and tasty and not boring. These meals are easily incorporated into a balanced carbohydrate meal or just as a craving reducing meal. Since this is not a diet and a way of life for me I wanted variety in my plan and flavor in my plan and I got it. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a balanced carbohydrate plan with no cravings and lots of variety. Such a great job the Drs. Heller did on this book. Bravo.
Rating: Summary: Recipes that helped me lose weight Review: After reading the Drs. Hellers Lifespan plan and following it and losing weight, I bought their cookbook. I have been delighted with their recipes. I have made several, and all were good. If you are on their plan you do not count calories, or carbohydrates. That is why there is no nutritional info with the recipes. I reccommend it for anyone following their plan.
Rating: Summary: Simple, Delicious Recipes that even Teens Love! Review: After starting the Carbohydrate Addict's Lifespan Program with my husband, we needed some additional low carb recipes for our diet. However, with three teenage boys in the house, I was afraid that the recipes in this cookbook might not be to their liking. I have tried other diet programs and also other lowfat and low carb recipes in the past with little success in our household. To be successful on a diet, you need food that everyone can enjoy. Well, this cookbook has done it for me! Every recipe I have tried was easy to make and my boys have really enjoyed the dishes. If you plan to work a diet and lifestyle changing program, you need good food and recipes to keep you going. This book was helpful and receives top ratings from a mother who has to please more than herself!
Rating: Summary: Good Recipes for a Good Diet Plan Review: Any recipes for a low-carb plan are welcome! Unfortunately, the diet can get boring, but it does work. New recipes like these will keep dieters motivated longer. The spinach cheese pie is wonderful for breakfast, lunch or dinner. For those who have criticized the low-carb lifestyle, please keep in mind that the doctors who wrote this book do NOT advocate cutting carbs out of your diet entirely. They simply advocate limiting the intake of carbs, much like we've always been told to limit our intake of red meat or fat. Why is it reasonable to limit those items, but not carbs? Of course our diets should be balanced. But the reality is that for those of us for whom low-carb diets work, our diets were drastically imbalanced prior to the diet. I ate WAY TOO MANY carbs. My meals were centered around carbs. And limiting my intake of them has proven to be the answer for maintaining a reasonable weight.
Rating: Summary: Good, Easy Cookbook for Those of Us with Insulin Problems Review: Anyone who claims this diet is "dangerous" obviously knows nothing about hyperinsulinemia or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). For women with PCOS, this diet is a godsend, as it a life-saving way for us to finally control the extremely excessive amounts of insulin that are constantly being poured into our systems. Any doctor who treats PCOS, which affects 6-10% of all women, will tell you that this diet, or a few others such as Sugar Busters, will ward off the Type II diabetes that we are almost certain of getting by age 40 if our excess insulin isn't regulated. Thus, low-carb (the more carbs you eat, the more insulin your body creates) is the only way to go. Anyone who doesn't understand all the intricacies of insulin resistance has no right calling this diet dangerous. End of rant! This cookbook was easy to follow and had some great ideas. To someone like me, who for health reasons has to adopt this diet as a way of life, rather than simply a quick weight-loss tool, this book is especially valuable. Many of the recipes are so palatable that my husband enjoys them as well, and I entirely avoid that feeling of deprivation that so often accompanies other diets. I found myself looking forward to my low-carb meals more, rather than just as something to get through because I needed to eat. I especially enjoyed the seafood section as I've been wanting to incorporate more seafood into my diet. Once again, the Hellers have extended a lifeline to those of us who need to adopt this way of eating for life. A final note: one of the best things about the CAD is that carbs are NOT eliminated from the diet; you simply must follow certain guidelines as far as when they can be eaten. Also, fatty meats are not encouraged; there is much more emphasis on vegetables. My cholesterol has been lowered significantly since I began this diet, not to mention my weight!

Rating: Summary: The Carbohydrate Addicts Cookbook Review: Don't waste your money!! I would give it a zero if I could.
Rating: Summary: Carb Smart Cooking! Review: Finally a book just for the many people on a carb smart plan. The recipes are delicious, and geared not to raise our insulin response--a double bonus. These easy to follow, tasty recipes prove once again that carbohydrate addiction doesn't mean we have to diet. The Hellers have shown us a way of life. What a wonderful way to eat and lose weight! A world of thanks.
Rating: Summary: NOT a replacement, but a supplement. Review: For those of us who don't have the luxury of having normal insulin release rates, a cookbook that will let us choose to eat food low in carbohydrates is a great help. No, this book isn't for everyone, and a total pig out without exercise and healthy food isn't good for anyone. But for those with half an ounce of common sense and a desire to not experience the extreme cravings that most diets cause due to carb overload, this is a good SUPPLEMENT to eating well. Finding out that my serious mood swings were caused by extreme insulin releases and the consequent sugar deprivation afterward helped me to lose weight (and keep it off) and to keep myself from decapitating the nearest human being because I didn't have anything to eat RIGHT THEN. If you get this cookbook, keep in mind that the recipes included will satisfy your cravings when you are about to lose control and just eat that Snickers bar. But remember what your mamma told you when you were tiny "Eat your veggies"
