Summary: A REAL waste
Review: I agree with "A reader from Boston" for the same reasons. Ms. Karmel is living in a fantasy world. My kid eats fruits, vegetables, and grains, but she won't touch this stuff. She's just over two years old and she won't come near the stuff Karmel expects a one-year old to eat. I was pretty dubious about it just reading the recipes but gave them a try. So anyone who wants my copy cheap please drop me a line.

Summary: What a waste
Review: My kids have always had a healthy diet, but like variety. This book had so much variety, it seemed perfect. I stuck to this book for 3 weeks. I have made 12 of these recipes, so I feel I have given the book MORE than a fair shot. The kids hate the food and the preparation times take far longer than the guidelines suggest. Also, the recipes use many perishable ingredients in small amounts, so there is a lot wasted. My grocery bill went up and no one would even touch the food.

Summary: Nice Photography, Bland recipes
Review: Sorry Annabel...nice pictures in this book, some fun shapes and interesting combos, but the ingredients!! Oh my! What child likes to eat smoked salmon and shallots? I have tried out 3 recipes for my 16 month old (and he is not a picky eater yet) and he spit them out and gave me a look like I was nuts! I bought this book for some fresh meal ideas. The animal shapes are fun and all but for a child who needs his food cut into bite sized shapes - whats the point? Perhaps this book is better suited to older toddlers who are a bit more finicky about their food?

Summary: A Book New Mothers can Use
Review: I gave this book as a gift to my cousin. She was having such a hard time feeding her baby but this book really helped her. It teaches you different techniques to feed your child but also combines good nutrition into the diet as well. She said it really worked out well for her. She used to be in tears. Now she can actually sleep nights.

Summary: Beautiful cookbook, creative ideas.
Review: If you are interested in preparing only a little of your baby's food, this is a great book and probably the only one you need. I found ORGANIC BABY AND TODDLER to be much less informative and have fewer recipes. The author has many creative recipes and takes you through them stage-by-stage in an easy to read and understand manner.

If you are interested in preparing a significant share of your child's meals, I'd also suggest getting SUPER BABY FOOD which goes over the basics of preparing baby food. These two complement each other nicely.

Summary: poor nutrition
Review: The author has no clue about the current AAP guidelies for feeding in the first year. She recommends eggs, whole milk, nuts and citrus at very early ages. As someone with food allergies, I am following the doctors guidelines carefully. This book has very little to no use for someone interested in following medical guidelines.

Summary: This dietitian/mom loves it
Review: I have a 10 month old, and have never given him a single jar of baby food thanks to this book. I do like to cook, but the recipes so far are really quite simple. The foods are palitable to both my son and myself. Her nutrition advice is in keeping with the latest recommendations. Recipe portions are accurate, and have a list of nutrients they are good sources of, which is helpful if your child is anemic, for example. There are plenty of recipies for ample variety at each age range. She gives equipment and storage tips. All around, this is an excellent book - the only one I use and one I couldn't live without.

Summary: Both helpful and fun
Review: My sister had this book for her children, and liked it so much that my mom got it for me right before I had my son. I absolutely hate to cook but I find these recipes easy and fun to make. I never thought I'd be making my own baby food in a million years, but this book is a big help. Also note that the recipes for older children can be made for the whole family, and they're very appetizing.

Many of the meals, especially the sauces, are suitable for freezing, so the criticism that the meals are too elaborate is not justified, in my opinion. You can prepare one batch and divide it up for freezing. You don't have to create the faces, etc., if you don't want to, but for those of us who are less than inspired or creative in making meals, the ideas are great.

Summary: Not very practical
Review: I am a Cordon Bleu trained chef like the author but these recipes are too labor intensive for every day use. They are more suited to a child's party or some other special occasion.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Good intentions and great photos but not that useful
Review: My toddler is a picky eater and didn't like any of the recipes. Maybe I will try using it again when he's older. Also some of the foods suggested seem too advanced for babies with few teeth and no molars. When I was pregnant I was excited about making my own baby food but when the time came, I was too tired and organic baby food seemed just as healthy and nutritious.
