Summary: Confusing book!
Review: Overall, I will find this book useful once we start my baby on solids.

However, the book drove me nuts with all of the cross references. In every paragraph, it seemed to say things like "Please see Chapt. 9", "Please see section regarding_____ on page #__" The smiliey faces drove me nuts---I felt as though I was reading an email or something posted on the internet at times.

It was hard for me to stick with reading this book because I was constantly being advised to see other sections of the book. You just can't sit down and read one chapter straight through.

I agree with some of the other reviewers. The book is very wordy, repetative, unorganized and in desperate need of better editing. I did not mind her encouraging people to not eat meat, eventhough I do eat meat. At least she did include a section on preparing meats, though she made it sound like a very scary and evil thing!!!

I am still glad I got this book since it does contain a lot of useful information. I am looking forward to preparing and feeding my baby the poridges.

I spent a long time looking for an "About the Author" section in this book. Maybe it's there, I just can't find it amoung all of the info that is jammed packed in the book. Could someone please tell me what qualifications that Ms. Yaron has in order to write a book like this? I am very curious to know what they are!

Summary: This Book was not for me
Review: I purchased this book for my son when he was starting solids. ... Super Baby Food was by far too preachy and wordy. Commercial baby food available now in the US is made without sugar and preservatives. All you have to do is read the labels just like you do for youself. I fed my son both homemade food and jarred food and he didn't get sick until he went to daycare at 12 months. So just because babies are fed homemade food does not mean they won't get sick. Most people are not vegetarians and I didn't not like being talked down to. I needed to know how to introduce meats to my baby and this book was NOT at all helpful in that vein. This book was a waste of money!

Summary: Encyclopedic yet user-friendly
Review: My wife and I purchased the Super Baby Food Book a few months before it was time to start solids with our first child, and we could not possibly be happier with the book. It has a useful index, and is presented in a way that does not require you to read the entire text prior to utilizing its valuable information. We certainly will be buying subsequent editions for subsequent children!

Summary: is there an editor in sight???
Review: Goodness gracious, this book is atrocious. It's poorly written and WAY too wordy. So much so that I stopped reading it after page 40. I am sure that there is some useful information in there, but I just don't have the time to get at it! Also, I do think this book is rather extreme regarding her take on nutrition.

Summary: Great First Book
Review: I bought this book after realizing that I had no idea what finger-foods to feed my infant son. I was a little overwhelmed after my first persusal of the book but once I began I had a whole freezer full of baby food within days.

Yes, the book does have sections that I'll never use --I will not make my own house cleaners or toys, but for people who are intrigued it shows you how to do it step by step. An invaluable resource.

Summary: Fabulous resource
Review: This book is packed with great tips that thoroughly cover baby nutrition as well as numerous other topics. It's a little "crunchy" for me, but the ideas and information are wonderful.

Summary: THIS IS MY KITCHEN BIBLE!
Review: I was definitely not a health nut before I read this, but wanted to keep my baby as "pure" as she was at birth. This book convinced me that to do otherwise would be reckless. She enlightened me regarding the horrible effects of partially hydrogenated oils and the benefits of Omega-3 fatty acids, powdered kelp, and flaxseed to name a few. I refer to this book often for meal ideas. There's a month by month guide to what foods to introduce, which I found so convenient. My daughter eats the Super Baby Porridge every day. She's 16 months old and has never been sick!! For me, that speaks for itself. This book is probably the best purchase I've made for her. You don't need to follow all of her suggestions, but every bit helps.

My whole family is healthier after this read. Five stars!!!

Summary: THIS MAKES A GREAT GIFT
Review: Give this as a gift to a friend who is not sure about the idea of home made baby food. The recipes are wonderful and easy to make! The freezing suggestions make sure you can have your own convieniance food for baby and my husband and I were shocked at how much less money we had spent on baby food at the end of daughter #2's first year than jarred food for daughter #1,--And daughter #1 was 9 years ago!

Summary: I give this to every new parent I know!
Review: This book is a great resource for getting ideas on how to feed your baby but is also a great nutrition reference when the baby is grown. Ruth also includes lots of craft ideas and some money saving advice. It is a wonderful reference and a book I give to every new parent I know.

Summary: A VALUABLE WEALTH OF INFORMATION!
Review: The amount of information in this book is really mind-boggling! There is so much, in fact, that I haven't even begun to scratch the surface. I bought the book with the intention of making my daughter's baby food. Everything is covered - which foods to start baby on when feeding solids; cooking, freezing/food storage methods; safety information; breakdown of which new foods to feed baby each month; recipes; nutritional info on different foods; even children's party recipes, decorations and craft projects.

When referring to another section in the book, the author makes it a point to list the exact page number, which I find VERY helpful, since I probably wouldn't have time to flip back and forth through the 560+ pages of info.

If you want a comprehensive book on feeding your child plus all sorts of other good info, this book is a real value.
