Summary: Too Preachy
Review: I know eveyone raves about this book but I found her style to be too preachy for me to tolerate. Endless diatribes about the evils of white flour & premade foods really got on my nerves. Plus I don't have a natural food store anywhere near me which makes buying dessicated liver powder & agar agar a bit of a challenge. While I do believe my child needs a good start in life and can do without artifical sweetners, perservatives, etc I think this book goes a bit overboard with it's agenda.

Summary: I'm leaving my husband and marrying this book!
Review: I told my husband that I was going to leave him and run away with this book because I love it so much! All of the women in my new-mom's-group use this book. It's a fabulous resource that just keeps giving and giving and giving! It has so much nutritional information in it, that I was able to use some of what I learned to improve how my whole family eats! She also explains how to keep your home healthy and safe, as well as how to pick produce from the store, how to cook the produce the right way, how look it stays good, and so much more! This is stuff than any housewife (or househusband) should know, even if you don't have a baby!!! There's even a bonus section about how to make your own homemade, environmentally friendly cleaning supplies! GET THIS BOOK! Get it for yourself and get it for anyone who is having a baby. It's a lifesaver. Keep in mind that this woman is a vegetarian and can be a little bit extreme, but I'd rather know everything and use what I need at my own discretion rather than just getting the short version. Another small warning is that because this author is a vegetarian, she is an advocate of soy, which is not the best thing for babies or adults for that matter - we've been duped by the soy industry and by the vegetarian community...

Summary: Highly Recommend for First Time Mothers
Review: I found this book extremely helpful. At 4 months old my baby was not satisfied with just breastmilk. I was at a lost as to what I solid foods I should feed my baby and her doctor didn't really go into details. He told me what not to feed her. So, when I heard about this book I went out and purchased it right away. After feeding our baby the super porridge she was content and she loved it. I am constantly referring to this boook for guidance when I'm not sure about a certain food item. Thank you Ruth Yaron.

Summary: Great way to become more nutritionally nurturing parents!
Review: This book has great advice. I have been exclusively breast-feeding our 4-month old and hadn't really given a lot of thought about what comes next. I knew I wanted to make our baby's food but had no clue where to begin. Ruth's book serves as a great "guide/resource" on the how/what/when food stages of your child's physical development. If you don't mind crisscrossing her frequent "refer to page # so and so" then you will love this book. Besides,we unfortunately live in a society of QUICK answers/fixes. But maybe it is time we all slow down and do what is best for our families. By the way, the prep time for her recipes are very short.

Summary: A perfect book to help start your little one on solids
Review: This book is excellent. Starting a tot on solids can be overwhelming, but this book really clears up questions and doubts. It has a wonderful break down of what to start when, schedules for feeding, and great recipes. This is the book any health conscious parent needs. It even has great recipes for homemade baby wipes and other necessities. When it's time to start feeding your baby something besides breastmilk or formula, this book will help you know whether to give him/her bananas or broccoli! All parents need this book!

Summary: Not for moms and dads in the real world
Review: While I'm all for trying to feed your child healthy foods, Ruth Yaron goes way off the deep end. Feeding your baby brewer's yeast and homemade ground up millet, barley, and brown rice (which are NOT iron-fortified, by the way) is way ridiculous. And when I read her recommendation to boil all tap water before giving it to your baby, not to mention letting the water run in the morning for a few minutes to remove the contaminated water that has been sitting in your pipes all night, I knew I was dealing with someone not living in the real world. If you want a great baby food cookbook with recipes for people in the real world, get "Mommy Made" by Martha Kimmel instead - easy and healthy recipes made from normal, everyday ingredients that also follow the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Leave "Super Baby Food" for the save the planet fanatics.

Summary: Healthy Food Makes a Healthy Baby/Kid
Review: I am a Registered Dietitian who counsels new mothers and teaches baby food cooking classes, and I recommend this book to all my new mother clients. Although there are some errors in the dietary recommendations regarding highly allergenic foods like peanut butter, the rest of the book is right on. All foods fed to young children should be organic. Homemade foods save money, and Ruth shows that it is not as time consuming as one might think. My 14 month old son eats Super Porridge every morning and the yogurt meal combination every day for lunch. Although I do give him some chicken and fish, he eats mostly vegetarian. Congratulations to Ruth for a great reference book!

This is a fantastic book & I've taken a 'Fitness & Nutrition' course. I have to admit, at first it seemed "a little" out of order but all you have to do is read it first then reference back to the chapters necessary, that's all there is too it. Yes, Ruth is not an "Expert Nutritionist" but I commend her hard work to have the guts to write this book.
"Hello Mom's - Let's use common sense here" I research anything questionable before I put it in my body & always have - I don't hesitate doing the same for my child. I sprinkle the Liver Powder in my 10 month olds food but did the research beforehand!I brought the book to my pediatritian after reading & a few of them thought it was a great book.
Hire your own nutritionist at home if you don't want to do the research firsthand!! Way too much crying and laziness here!!

Summary: Great Reference Book
Review: I bought this book when I started feeding my daughter solid foods at the age of 5 months. I have to admit that I don't make the Super Porridge or other recipes but I do use the book on a regular basis as a reference. There is a long listing of fruits and vegetables towards the back of the book. This reference is wonderful because it lists most fruits and veggies along with why each is nutritious (vitamins and minerals), at what age your child can start eating it, how to cook it, and other great information.

This book also has chapters on arts and crafts that you can do with your child. There are recipes for making sidewalk chalk, crafts for holidays, and lots of other neat stuff. I recommend this book if you need a reference but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for the baby food recipes.

Summary: Some Useful Information but WAY Too Preachy
Review: I bought this book looking for some cheap, healthy babyfood recipes. Well to get to those you have to wade through pages upon pages of the author's diatribes against the food industry. The author implies that if you feed your family animal products (aside from eggs & dairy) or non-organic food you are in effect poisoning them. Not everybody can afford to pay 5x as much for organic and there is plenty of nutrition in lean meat, poultry, & fish. Pass on this and check out "First Meals" instead.
