Rating: Summary: An excellent book for busy parents! Review: This is an excellent book, especially for busy mothers. Ruth Yaron tells you how you can feed your baby healthy food without it costing an arm and a leg and taking hours of time. In easy to follow steps, she walks you through the preparation and freezing of healthy foods. She even gives you an estimate of the time it will take. Our whole family has taken advantage of the tips I've gotten for healthy food in Ruth Yaron's book, Superbabyfood.
Rating: Summary: An outstanding resource for parents!! Review: Ruth Yaron's book is excellent. As a breasfeeding mother who wanted only the best for my child (as all parents do), I sought out this book. I have gotten quite an education on nutrition in the process of using it! It is laid out well so that one can read pertinent sections a little bit at a time. I work outside the home and have been able to feed my 11-month old SuperBaby food with little trouble. I recommend the book highly to those who are truly interested in developing good eating habits in their children. She gives many, many ideas & suggestions on healthy living and cost savings: some I chose to follow, others I have not.
Rating: Summary: BEST BOOK FOR NEW PARENTS! Review: This is the most thorough and thoughtful book for new parents today. An essential part of a child's early beginnings is his/her diet, and this book helps parents provide the foundation that is necessary for a lifetime of health. The author is well informed and even answered an email question from me personally when I had a question. This makes a great gift for those whom you care about. I have mine marked up and use it consistantly in feeding my eight month old.
Rating: Summary: Informative and entertaining Review: Ruth Yaron has done her homework! This book covers everything you need to know to feed your baby and toddler. Besides all the useful information, it is also an entertaining read. Her engaging personality comes through her writing so strongly, that it seems she is sitting with you, chatting friend-to-friend. I have tried many of her recipes and ideas. Every one has been a winner. Besides parents, pre-school teachers and day care givers will find many useful craft projects that are lots of fun. Ruth always reminds the reader of child safety and protection of environment. These serious issues are handled extremely well. This book is definitely worth purchasing and sharing with friends. I recommend it to any parent, teacher or child care giver.
Rating: Summary: Every baby can be a Super Baby! Review: I have waited for a book of this type to explain to me in simple terms how to prepare baby food for my super baby. This book not only tells you about different foods, but when to introduce them, how to tell if they are ripe and how to prepare them. It also explains how to get the most from nutrients by combining certain foods like eggs and orange juice to get the maximum amount of iron. I have both the old version and the new. The updated info I used for my son's 3rd birthday party and it was a hit! I am due to deliver another super baby any day now and plan on making his food, too. I cannot tell you how proud I am of myself and how good I feel as a mother by providing my children with the optimal nutrition and a healthy start to their lives! Thank you, thank you, thank you, Ruth Yaron!!!
Rating: Summary: So much more than baby food! Review: Super Baby Food is the best book to buy for new parents, especially for people who care about nutrition and having their baby grow up healthy. This book is an amazing collection of tips on every aspect of child care, nutrition, development, play, and parenting. It's title doesn't really begin to tell the story. It's like having a wise older sister or Mom at your side helping you with your baby. It's so easy to read and jammed full of interesting facts and helpful hints gathered from experts and parents alike. I highly recommend it to all parents, parents-to-be, grandparents and friends of anyone who is trying to raise kids the right way.
Rating: Summary: This woman has thought of everything! What a fabulous book! Review: The title does not do this book justice! Besides giving us an easy and cost-effective approach to making healthy baby food, she offers so many other tips that a new parent must have. As a first time parent, it has taken the scare out of how to feed my toddler because it is so easy to follow. This book is my new bible and I plan on giving it to every new parent I know!
Rating: Summary: take it with a grain of salt Review: I really do love this book. It's very comprehensive, pretty well organized, and congruent with my ideas about what children should and shouldn't eat (especially no meat). However, some of the non-food related information in the book is so off-the-wall it is, frankly, laughable. For example, the author warns that, when changing your child, you should not react very strongly to a diaper that you find sickening. I agree with this, but she goes on to say that, in doing this, you could cause your child to think that sex is dirty. Well, maybe, but I can't imagine that there is any evidence for this statement at all. There are plenty of passages like this in the book that are either not founded in research or pretty overboard (particularly the section on household cleaning products and safety). A good resource, just know that some of the advice may not work for you.
Rating: Summary: Additional Note on Microwaving Review: This is supplemental to a review already posted. The info presented doesn't reflect recent research on how microwaving destroys nutrients (see below), so when preparing or reheating food, try to avoid using the microwave; otherwise you might be better off using commercial organic baby food."PARIS, Oct 22 (AFP) - Cooking by microwave is the worst way to preserve a key nutrient in vegetables, while steaming is the best, according to a Spanish study reported in New Scientist. Researchers from the national scientific research council CEBAS-CSIC measured antioxidants, a compound believed to protect cells from damaging reactive chemicals called free radicals, in broccoli that had been either steamed, pressure-cooked, boiled or microwaved. Steaming the veggies left the antioxidants almost untouched, but microwaving virtually eliminated them, probably because this heated the broccoli from inside and generated too high a temperature."
Rating: Summary: Comprehensive, invaluable resource guide! Review: Wow! Where to start? First, I bought this and The Healthy Baby Meal Planner by Annabel Karmel at the same time. While Karmel's book is "prettier" and has some interesting looking recipes, this one far outweighs it as a resource tool, which was what I was looking for. I admit, I was intimidated at first by the sheer volume of information contained in this book, but after reading the author's suggestion on how to read the book, I felt that I had a better handle on it. The book is very well organized, from when to introduce specific foods, to how to prepare and store them (one of my favorite sections!), to the recipes, which I really haven't gotten to yet. Yaron doesn't make the reader feel guilty about having a few jars of commerical baby food on hand, so in this sense, she's not militant about doing Everything from scratch. The only area which I feel is a bit weak is the very short chapter on meat, which she states she added for the "readers who (no matter what I say!) have decided to feed it to their babies." Yaron is very obviously a vegetarian, which is fine, however, I (and many other moms) are not. This does not stop me from enjoying her book, and I probably will start preparing more grains-and- legumes meals as a result of what I'm learning, for variety, if not for the health benefits. This is definitely the book to own if you can only buy one!
