Rating: Summary: This book can even be used by working moms Review: I thought I wouldn't be able to make Margaret's food because I work full time, but it's been a breeze for the most part. And even though we're not vegetarians, and I don't plan that Margaret will be (unless she chooses to be one later), I found this book a remarkable resource. What's more, it's incredibly easy to follow. We don't do it 100 percent, in that I don't hand-make all her fruits and veggies. But the cereals, the yogurt, the tofu, the beans and all the other less "labor intensive" stuff is really easy, and so incredibly healthy. Nevertheless, I'm not only saving a bundle on baby food, but I'm also improving my diet along the way. My best discovery is how easy it is to make homemade yogurt, and how much better it is than store-bought yogurt. Much creamier and less tart. And my daughter LOVES the stuff.
Rating: Summary: I highly recommended this book for all new parents. Review: This book has helped clear up my confusion when starting to feed my son solids. It not only tells you what and when to introduce certain foods, but how much and what consistancy. It also gives sample menu plans and step-by-step instuctions on how to prepare homemade foods for your baby. It also tells you what not to feed your baby and why as well. It has a strong nutritional background so you can understand why some foods are better than some. I refer to it daily to find out information about vegetables and fruit. There is also a section on homemade household things and fun projects for your children. A recipe index is located in the back on foods that not just your baby will love but your whole family as well. Not only does the author recommend that you go over with your Dr. the menus so he/she can add or omit foods taking your baby into consideration but she also welcomes any comments or questions to her email which gets answered daily. It takes out the feelings of being alone in the whole crusade. This book is enthusiasticly written and the author's personality stands out when reading. It's a friendly book and enjoyable to read. For those parents that are super busy, there are suggestions in the begining of the book on how to read the book so you can get the most out of it in the least amount of time. Reading this book has given me peace of mind that I am feeding my son the best way I can. I have been recommending this book to friends and family and will continue to do so.
Rating: Summary: A SUPER book. Review: Painstakingly researched, well-written, and organized in a "user-friendly" manner, this book is unrivaled in its field. It is, to say the least, jam-packed with useful and interesting information about nutrition, common food allergies, and baby development, as well as a host of other topics of concern to parents of a baby or toddler. In addition ---and this is what really makes this book stand out--- it gives parents very specific and easy-to-follow instructions regarding HOW to implement the super baby food diet: at what ages to introduce which foods, how to prepare and store baby food, feeding schedules for babies of various ages, and much more. My little boy was raised on Ruth's super baby food diet, and I would have had it no other way!
Rating: Summary: Great book for new moms! Easy reading and great quick tips! Review: This book has been so helpful. I never knew that making your own healthy baby food could be so easy! My husband and I are so proud to be able to say that we give our daughter homemade food! He is also impressed because she eats pureed spinach--you can't buy that in those jars! This book gives you so many great ideas and quick tips to make your new "baby filled" life easier. Thanks Ruth!
Rating: Summary: Invaluable reference and resource for baby food! Review: I am so glad that I came across this book! Since my daughter started solids at around 6 months, I've been looking for a book to use as both a reference and resource to guide me in the process of cooking her nutritious, healthy meals. This was particularly important since we plan on feeding her a mainly vegetarian diet, and I was intimidated by the thought of planning and preparing a healthy, well-balanced diet for my daughter. Luckily, I found Super Baby Food, and Ruth Yaron has spelled out a clear and easy way to give babies and toddlers the best possible start. Super Baby Food is an incredible source of information! I haven't even begun to scratch the surface of this incredible book, and it's already been an invaluable resource. As recommended in the book itself, I plan to use it in consultation with our pediatrician so as to best meet our daughter's nutritional needs. I can highly recommend this book, and I look forward to using it myself for many years to come.
Rating: Summary: Helpful addition to your homemaking of baby food Review: I am a Registered Nurse. This is our third child. I have always been one for making my own baby food, since I feel it is better and it is DEFINITELY more cost-effective than jars(and smells much better(smile)). Ruth Yaron did a great deal of research to make this book possible and it was a great help! Even with the third child there are great recipes and nutrition facts. But I do most certainly recommend asking your pediatrician first if presenting the foods in order that Ruth presented them as being okay(especially if there allergies that run on either side of the family). She also presented other thrifty ways for crafts and even things to clean the house with(like we have the time(smile)).Get the book, it was worth the price and if nothing else see if your library carries it or can get it for you!
Rating: Summary: Super Baby Food in the ONLY Way to Feed Baby Review: Super Baby Food is packed with info on shopping for, preparingand freezing food, but it provides a helpful guideline for introducingsolid food to baby. I found her guidelines to be conservative. As for not being very breastfeeding friendly, I care to disagree. As a nursing mom the second time around, I not only provide my baby with my best from my body, but supplement his nutritional needs with Super Baby Food. As a pediatric occupational therapist, introduction on solid foods is an absolute must from the age of 4 to 6 months to develop muscles and skills needed to handle solid foods. Two healthy, happy super babies is my proof that nursing and Super Baby Food are the only ways to go!
Rating: Summary: The book that changed the way I fed my son!! Review: Sitting in my pediatrician's office, I saw the book Super Baby Food on the table. At that time, my son was 3 months old and I just couldn't believe all the information I gained from this book in the short time I sat there. Needless to say, I immediately went out and ordered a copy. I didn't have to worry about what to feed my son. The instructions and ideas were ALL in there to make life easier for me-what foods to buy, how to prepare and store the foods so they were safe, and many other ideas on raising my son. This book has helped me immeasurably. Now that he is 11 months old, I really feel he had an excellent start nutritionally and will continue to thrive with all of Ruth's wonderful food ideas. I found that feeding my son became very easy. I could just read in the book as to what foods to feed him.
Rating: Summary: WOW! Great Book for Struggling Moms! Review: I have a six month old son and I have just started reading this book. I am so glad that a friend of mine gave me a copy. It's been a terrific guide, I can't wait to introduce him to all of the wonderful foods discussed in this book. Even the information about picking produce is extremely handy. It must be very rewarding to the author to know that her book is helping so many kids! I've been recommending to everyone I know who has kids. We all want the best for our kids, and a resource like SuperBabyFood is a Godsend!.
Rating: Summary: Use with Caution Review: There is a lot of great information in this book. However, there is also quite a bit of nutritional misinformation to go with it. So I found myself having to double-check any recommendation I didn't already know about with another source which somewhat defeats the purpose of buying the book. That said I'm a complete kitchen klutz so having a book that explains exactly how to shop for, prepare and freeze each food is very helpful. I'd just be very, very careful about using the exact diet as recommended for a baby under 1 year without consulting with your pediatrician first. For example, in order to avoid the "evil" meat, the book recommends introducing nuts, seeds & soy into the baby's diet from a pretty early age. These foods are all high allergen foods and really are not any better for a small baby than some pureed chicken. The book also recommends liver powder -- but organ meats are high in toxins. It also recommends cottage cheese starting at 6 months but cottage cheese has all the same problems as cow's milk and should not be given until you are ready to start straight cow's milk. So in some senses I think the "cure" (a diet full of allergy-causing foods) is worse than the "disease" (eating meat once in a while). The book is also not very bfing friendly... if you push solids in the amounts recommended here and as early as recommended here, you could easily have supply problems or your baby could self-wean by 9-10 months.
