Rating: Summary: Fabulous baby food tool Review: A friend showed me this book when my daugther was 6 months old. I found the food information for each month was very helpful when she began to eat solids. In addition, the book also has lots of healthy snacks and recipes we all love -- it's changed our family's diet considerably! The handy tips on how to make your own baby or cleaning products is great if you have time. It's an indenspensable tool in many areas of being a parent.
Rating: Summary: First book I've found to give detailed help for feeding Review: My wife and I have read a couple of books on infant nutrition and were still confused as to what to feed our son, how often, how to change as he grew, what concentration of vitamins and minerals to aim at, etc. This is the first book to provide that I have found. Ruth does a great job providing detailed feeding guidelines by month. Second, this book is the first I have seen that breaks down the benefits of whole versus processed grains. I learned alot about nutrition reading it, and was able to find good grain products in the health food store based on her advice. It is really true that it is so hard to find whole grain products. Just start turning over the bread and reading what's in most whole wheat bread - enriched flour. Even 100% whole wheat usually contains a little corn syrup. Her tips really opened my eyes to how to find whole grain products in the health food store. Its still hard however, so the tips in the book are great. Third, this book is one of the few I have found that really takes a stand on refined sugar. Its just plain bad for you and Ruth takes a stand on that. All in all, this is a great book for understanding infant feeding.
Rating: Summary: Chock-full of everything you need to know Review: I have the first edition of this book and bought the second edition when it became available because it contained even more recipes and tips for food and play.Yaron brings together expert advice and common sense from a variety of sources. In this one volume a reader can find nutrition information we previously had to gather from a variety of books, experts and real-life experience. Her information on nutrition and safety is cutting-edge. While I gathered tips and advice from my pediatrician and from parenting newsletters available through my state Extension service, Yaron's book delivered more information in more detail and an easy-to-read format. Nutrition information can be referenced food by food or by a child's age of development. Whenever I had a question about the appropriateness of a certain food for my baby, I could quickly look it up. I learned quite a lot about general nutrition that's been helpful to my own diet. The book will be of special interest to vegetarian or vegetarian-leaning parents. The recipe section is invaluable for those "I don't know what to prepare" snacks and mealtimes. Yaron's tips are also money-savers for those on a tight budget. The new edition has more "do-it-yourself" ideas for play and parties and serves as a nice reference for the times when the reader's own creativity is lacking.
Rating: Summary: I wish I had this book when I was raising my other children. Review: The most complete book out there to answer all your questions about feeding your baby/toddler. Thank goodness for Ruth Yaron for putting this together. My only regret is I wish this book was available when I was raising my other children. I know my other children would have avoided many health problems had I had this book. No parent should be without this wonderful handbook.
Rating: Summary: Opened up my eyes to the natural way Review: This book definetely opened up my eyes to doing things naturally and made me feel more comfortable to do so and give my baby the best I can. I recommend this book to others ever since I bought it and hope that other will have an open mind and just get to know what this book is all about because giving your children the best is really something important. After all would you eat TV dinners everyday? if not then why should you make your children eat ready prepared foods? ENJOY ! PS The author also responds to emails very quickly and is very helpful !
Rating: Summary: A must for every kitchen library! Review: EXCELLENT BOOK! Even though I bought the book to learn more about making super nutricious, healthy foods for my baby, I have found our family has started eating better. Even my picky 4 year old has eaten the foods I have prepared for him from the recipes from SuperBabyFood book. (his favorite..whole grain pop tarts) I love the section on preparing specific fruits and veggies. Overall, SuperBabyFood book is an all in one book not only with super healthly receipes, but many money saving tipes we all can benifit from..for example...homemade baby wipes! Even tho Ms. Yaron doesn't agree with feeding baby meats, I believe children should have meats as part of their diets. WONDERFUL EASY TO FOLLOW BOOK! A must for every kitchen library!
Rating: Summary: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR BABY FEEDING CONFIDENCE! Review: Ruth Yaron really does all new parents a favor with her wonderful book, Super Baby Food. She explains in the perfect detail (not too much information, just the important stuff) which foods to introduce, when to introduce them, how to prepare them and more. We are saving hundreds of dollars by making our own food, and my 8 month old daughter is eating healthy, fresh food that only take a minute or two to prepare! Ms. Yaron also includes great tips on everything from safety to toddler parties. This is going to be a gift for all the new parents on my list. It is really the most comprehensive and easily digested book on baby nutrition out there.
Rating: Summary: A little too "Natural" for me Review: I carefully researched many baby cookbooks and decided to purchase this one based on customer comments. I was disappointed to find I wouldn't eat, nor have on hand many of the items she recommended to feed my baby. Dessicated powdered liver? Brewers yeast? Whole grains only from natural food stores? Nut and seed milk? This is a great book if you are already a natural food buyer and a vegetarian, but NOT if you are an average mom who goes to a regular grocery store, and God forbid, eats red meat occasionally. Having a baby changes your life enough!! If I complied with all of her recommendations, I would have to completely change my family's eating habits and where we shop. Is it possible to make baby food that is healthy, yet is more accomodating to our lifestyle? Plus, the author sometimes is a bit "preachy" ("No carbonated drinks until age 21")and overdoes all of her instructions. Must we be reminded to clean out our strainer, or keep the lid on our food processor?
Rating: Summary: Makes making your own baby food very easy Review: I was not the type to make my own food, let alone my baby's food. My daughter has some food allergies which made me want to prepare her food so that I knew exactly what she was getting. This book explains everything very clearly so that even I could easily follow and make food. I never imagined how satisfying it would be to make her food. She like the food better than the baby jar food and I feel more secure in what I feed her. There is even information about food allergies in the book that was very helpful. I would highly recommend this book- my baby and I have both benefitted from it!
Rating: Summary: The most used reference book in our house. Review: I love the Super Baby Food book. It has inspired me and has given me information on how to feed my baby healthy foods without a lot of hassle. My husband and I have used this book as our guide to feeding our first child since he was six months old. He is now ten months old and the Super Baby Food diet is a part of our family's routine. I love the alphabetized reference section on fruits and vegetables that provides me with everything I need to know including: how old he should be before eating it, how to prepare it, how to freeze it, how long to freeze it, and much more. The sections on nutrition helped me to understand what a healthy diet consists of for me and my family. As a working and pregnant mother, I don't have much time or energy to devote to making fancy homemade meals for our baby. With the help of the common sense suggestions and solidly researched information in this book, I feel confident that I'm feeding my son the healthiest food possible without spending all my time in the kitchen. I would recommend this book to all parents!
