Rating: Summary: Everything you need to know about feeding your baby Review: I have always been a believer in good nutrition and have for years eaten only organic foods whenever possible. With that commitment to myself I knew that I would be making my son's food. I have worked as a chef and did not think I needed any guidance. I bought Ruth's book simply out of curiousity and have really used it. I can honestly say that I read it every single day for some reason or another. It is very informative and full of helpful hints that I never thought I would incorporate into my feeding style. They have proven invaluable.
Rating: Summary: I use this book all the time Review: I am so glad that i bought this book. I reference it all the time. I bought it in 1998 when my daughter was born and still use it for recipe's for the whole family as well as my toddler and my new 6 months old baby. Recipe's are not the ony reason I reference the book, I've also recently got great ideas for my daughter second birthday party from it. I also grab it for great activity ideas to play with the kids when I run out of them. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who has a children.
Rating: Summary: Poorly written and overly hyped Review: I was extremely disappointed with this book and returned it for a refund. It is poorly written and disorganized. The book is also replete with typographical errors. It lacks essential information on nutritional values of various foods (e.g. I wanted to know the nutritional value of strawberries and the book failed to provide it). The recipes are also lame and are all vegetarian. And why would a baby food book contain chapters on homemade baby products and household cleaning products? I discovered that Ruth Yaron is neither a nutritionist nor a pediatrician. This book was written solely on her experience as a mom and what she fed HER three children. Essentially, this book is a collection of useless and self-promoting information. I suggest that you review Annabel Karmel's "First Meals," the real source for homemade baby food!
Rating: Summary: Not what I expected Review: I was looking for practical information on how much and what to feed my baby. I was not necessarily going to make the food. Only buy this book if you are planning on making the food and if you are familiar with health food stores.
Rating: Summary: The ONLY baby food book I use and believe in. Review: I have read about infant/child nurtition extensively and Ruth Yaron's book is the only one that does all three things you need: explains the importance of nutrients and food; gives the back up material (tables, charts, etc); and gives you a really healthy and reasonable menu plan. Not to mention all the fabulous time and money-saving tips for food and beyond. Ruth's information gave me the courage and inspiration to put my daughter on a really healthy eating plan in a way that was enjoyable for her and manageable for me. She eats kale, spinach, and broccoli to name a few and she is a little over 2 now. I still use frozen vegetables in her morning cereal and if that is all she eats all day I know she's had a "super meal". Thank you Ruth for your inspiration and example.
Rating: Summary: Not worth the money--even for vegetarians Review: As a health conscious vegetarian, I can tell you this book is not worth the money. As many other readers have noted, the book is not organized well, skips around, etc. Several other readers have complained that the book is for vegetarians. As a vegetarian, I can tell you that this book is for health fanatics who pinch and squeeze every penny. Even the recipe section is poor. A much better selection for the general public is a book called "First Meals". "First Meals" will show you how to make homemade baby food from every day ingredients--including many vegetarian selections.
Rating: Summary: Love this book! Review: My baby is about 6 months right now, and I bought the book when the doctor gave me the ok to start solid foods. I knew I wanted to make her food (I wouldn't eat canned food every day!) I just never knew it would be so easy. I use her methods and it is quick and simple! I am hooked, and I feel like my baby is getting the best food I can offer her:)
Rating: Summary: RESPONSIBLE PARENTS: READ THIS BOOK! Review: Wow! This book is a gem for new parents, thoroughly packed with information on feeding your child a balanced and nutritious diet that he or she deserves! Yaron explains in detail when to introduce foods, how to prepare them and most of all how to enhance each meal so that every bite of food aids in a baby's optimal development. Even if her method is not followed completely, I consider this book to be a road map for the hefty job of nourishing a child....especially in a world where we are bombarded with misleading ad campaigns and artificial foods which promise the best for our children! It is so easy in this era of civilization to forget that the human race flourished before the introduction of processed and jarred baby food! Yaron empowers us, explaining how easy and simple it is to prepare baby food ourselves. I meet many mothers who strongly disagree with me about the processed vs. grinding food dilemma, but I am convinced that I am sending my child down a healthy path thanks to the things I have learned in the Super Baby Food book.
Rating: Summary: So Useful I bought it Twice! Review: This is the most helpful baby book ever. I loved the detailed descriptions of what my baby could be eating each month, and all the recipies, too. We are not really "health food people", but I love feeding my baby nutritious food. And he loves eating it! My book disappeared several months ago, and I miss it so much, I'm buying another copy.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST AND MOST RELIABLE Review: I'm a new mom, living in US far from my mom. Knowing this book gives me almost EVERYTHING I need to know about how to feed my daughter --- I am so confident now. This book is EASY to read and very full of small details on how I can prepare and plan the best food!
