Rating: Summary: Don't bother with this one! Review: I agree with the reviewer who commented about all the stars this book has been getting -- I just don't understand it, either! As a first time mom, I was eager to learn all I could about feeding my baby the healthy way -- and that's why I purchased this book. However, after reading it from cover to cover, I simply can't recommend it! Some of the "healthy" things sound downright awful (like brewer's yeast)-- why would you feed that in any amount to a baby! And, some of the suggestions are downright silly (you wouldn't believe it-- puppets made out of old stuffed animals -- gross)! My advice is: save your money and look elsewhere for a good book on feeding your precious baby!
Rating: Summary: A great book for first time mothers Review: I could not have done without this book since my baby started on solids. this book has everything you need to know on how to feed your baby from buying to storing to cooking. my baby is one now and i must say that she is tall and healthy and very strong. you only need this one book on feeding for your baby's first year.
Rating: Summary: A valuable reference for both new and experienced mothers! Review: When I first sat down to "read" Superbaby food, I became very frustrated at the lack of organization and redundancy of information presented. However, I found myself leafing through the reference section, repeatedly and often, to the point where I now find the book to be an invaluable resource. My copy is now full of post-it tabs, so I can go directly to what I want.New buyers should know that this book supports vegitarianism -- but don't let that disuade you from buying. The nutritional charts and food preparation methods are quite appropriate for everyone. The 560 pages break-down in the following manner: about 50% advice on feeding at various stages, with specifics (this is the portion that is difficult to navigate), 15% recipes (mostly for toddlers -- not babies) and 10% "fun stuff" with ideas for crafts, etc. and lastly, a most-valuable 25% reference. Don't try to read this book cover-to-cover, as with a novel, or even a cookbook. View it more as an encyclopedic guide, and you should find it very useful.
Rating: Summary: You really can do this! Review: As a first time mom and previously a medical sales rep who gave up the glitz for what I feelight thing, I really wanted the best for our daughter. At first I was overwhelmed with the process, not to mention different opinions from different books! But over time in addition to making just the cereal I began pureeing food and you know what--it is so simple and rewarding! Plus when Hailey is not that hungry, throwing out a cube is OK...When I went to the 9 month check up the Doc was amazed at how healthy she was and what I was feeding her! She eats everything and is well within healthy limits! Now when I grind flaxseed, I eat some too! This truly is a great book and it is really worth the effort which over time, is effortless! Plus, Ms. yaron has e mail and will answer your questions which I find commendable! Very thorough and very lovingly put together!
Rating: Summary: The baby just doesn't 'get it' Review: I don't know where everyone's getting all these stars from. I'm all for healthy food - and I personally found most of the foods mentioned in the book intriguing and yummy. HOWEVER, my 1-1/2 year old just wouldn't eat any of it. Of course, this is AFTER I spent a lot of money on suggested things at the local health food store, and listened to my blender grind soybeans for what seemed an eternity. The recipes and ideas were easy, but what does that help when your baby just won't eat soybean porridge?
Rating: Summary: Thank You Ruth Yaron! Review: This book really hits the spot for healthy baby food! It is full of information and great tips. I have researched a lot on this topic because I want to give my baby the best food (other than my breastmilk). Ruth Yaron has great tips on making food and she lists the kinds of foods suitable for what age. In the back of the book is "Nutrition 101" which will give you a greater understanding on how to feed. She has tons of interesting and valuable information listed. And, I enjoyed her child care and kitchen tips too. Do like Mrs. Yaron suggests and read the book in sections! I trust her research and feel she is competent in this matter. The only thing that isn't outstanding about this book is the chapter on meat. I eat meat, and so will my daughter. I would have loved to see more info on introducing meats and more selection.
Rating: Summary: Baby Food... Review: This is one of two baby food books that I have. I did not like this book at all because it contains too many harsh statements that seem to be more the opinion of Yaron rather than proven scientific fact. It is comprehensive but I am using my other book which seems to provide a much more balanced approach to the world of feeding babies !
Rating: Summary: This book is a MUST HAVE! Review: Being a nutrition-guru and vegetarian, I am adamant about eating and serving only the most wholesome, natural foods--this goes double for my baby! I have read many "how to make your own baby food" books and have found none to compare with Ms. Yaron's SUPER BABY FOOD. She rightly titles the book SUPER! It is chock-full of sound nutritional advice, easy to prepare recipes and tips for everything from ensuring food safety to how to quickly prepare a balanced diet--even for picky eaters! Her food preparation tips for virtually every nutritional powerhouse food imaginable and her month-by-month food introduction chapters set this book apart from others. No matter whether or not you are a vegetarian (she includes a chapter on preparing meat for baby) or even if you aren't up on all the healthfood-hype, you and your baby will benefit from her time-saving, easy-to-prepare recipes and tips! Bon apetit, bebe!
Rating: Summary: Finally, good advice on nutrition! Review: Thank goodness that someone cares about our kids' eating habits. Today's pediatricians know nothing about pediatric nutrition compared with Ruth Yaron, whose inspiring book not only guides parents in preparing a wide variety of fresh, healthy foods for their children easily and cheaply, but also provides overall guidance on optimal human nutrition along with an enormous number of recipes and hints to make good eating easy for busy parents and kids. I would recommend this book heartily to any parent who doesn't want to rely on the scant knowledge of the medical profession about nutrition, and also doesn't want their kid to grow up eating McMeals. You can do yourself and your child a world of good by making the investment in this book and feeding him or her the best food possible, while saving money as well.
Rating: Summary: Super Babies Review: I bought this book to learn what to feed my 3 month old. There are so many conflicting ideas on when to introduce solid foods and what are best for babies. Ruth Yaron makes you feel comfortable with the idea of wanting to give your children the best. And even if you decide to go with commercial food or even just a few jars, you won't be left behind in the book! I'm not a vegetarian, and neither are my kids, but this diet is healthy even by adding additionals like meat! I am saving so much money by making my own food for her. There are so many wonderful ideas on food in this book, you couldn't even begin to imagine. It's even handy for my 3 year old! If you buy one book this year, definately buy this one! You won't be disappointed!
