Rating: Summary: Omnivores beware, this book is designed for vegetarians. Review: Everyone should know in advance that this book is designed to make your baby a vegetarian. The author does not divulge this information until deep in the book. I kept wondering why she never mentioned introducing meats until the end. This is not a good book for those of us who want to feed our babies more diverse diets including meat.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Source! Review: This book is fabulous, especially for a first time mom like me! If you are interested in making sure your child has a nutritionally packed diet, then this book is just what you're looking for. In addition to providing information on basic nutritional needs, it is full of recipes, suggestions and tips. The section on fruits and vegetables--how to buy, when to introduce, how to prepare and store, etc. is invaluable. Combined with the bare bones information I received from my pediatrition about when and which foods to introduce, I feel confident that my child is receiving a super diet!
Rating: Summary: Don't wast your money. Review: I listened to all the 5 star reviews rather than the lower ratings. I was wrong. This book is for fanatics. I was trying to find a way to feed my baby healthy foods that I can find at my grocery store and this book was of no help at all. Like many of the reviews stated, there were too many opinions and not enough fact. I still can't figure out why I have to discard refrigerated apple juice after two days.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Book Review: My son is just starting to eat bayfood. I have found this book to be very helpful and easy to understand. It has a lot of useful information including how to tell if foods are ripe. The cooking and storing directions are very easy and they don't waste a lot of time on unneeded steps. I highly recommend this book!
Rating: Summary: Be prepared! Review: Wow! This book, while offering some great information, is desperately in need of an editor. As a graduate student in the medical sciences, I am not intimidated by long/difficult books...Super Baby Food however could have probably gotten its message across more effectively if about 350 pages had been trimmed off. The author does put out some good information (it is all opinion of course, but Yaron is responsible about telling you to check with your pediatrician), and as a strongly pro-organics and whole grains person I applaud her efforts. She gets quite bogged down though in the at first amusing and then just annoying "Tips" and "Reminders"--do I need to be told to fill my ice cube trays "left, right, left, right" or to keep my hand on the blender lid while using it? You just may drive yourself nuts trying to flip back and forth through this book to follow threads of information...the same common sense guidelines are out there in more streamlined, user-friendly books. My advice is, if you know your nutrition basics but like Yaron's principals, skip this and keep looking for a more "palatable" book!
Rating: Summary: Your Baby's Best Bet for a Healthy Diet! Review: I found Ms. Yaron's book invaluable from the point when I began to plan for our baby's introduction to solid foods right through her toddlerhood. The nutritional information was very reassurring and comprehensive. My child never ate commercially prepared babyfoods and thanks to the easy and convenient preparations suggested in this book we saved a lot of money. My pediatrician was delighted and often marvelled about having a little patient with such a healthy and well balanced diet. Her earliest foods included such nutritionally rich foods as avacados, pintos, and kale; items not available in commercial baby food lines. Every parent should be given a copy of this book when they leave the hospital with thier new baby!
Rating: Summary: What A Comprehensive Book! Review: I had a baby a year ago and still use this book. It's an excellent source of everything involving baby nutrition, which most pediatritions don't seem to know much about. The author gives excellent tips on how to make your own healthy, baby food as well as a guide to when it's ok to start feeding different fruits, veggies, etc.. It's really indispensible, especially if you're a 1st time mom and you want to do everything right. My child has never been sick. I believe it has a lot to do with the good food I feed him.
Rating: Summary: All of that in one book Review: THE GOOD: info on how to cook/prepare certain fruits, veggies, and grains and when to introduce to your child, , info on general baby nutrition including nutrient tables, info on proteins and fatty acids, lots of fun crafts, lots of helpful hints/tips for saving time/money, and lists of finger foods and choking hazards. The author is just a mom(not a nutritionist or pediatrician)who has done all the research for the reader. This book covers a vast range of information.THE BAD: the author's frequent personal opinions, scattered info, and picky toddlers won't eat many of the toddler recipes. In general though, this book is a very thorough resource to have in the house. I simply ignore the opinions, use the index frequently, and just feed my baby, not my picky toddler out of this book.
Rating: Summary: Easy to use book - excellent way to feed your baby Review: I really enjoyed this book. My baby is 6 months old so we are just getting started with solids but I am enjoying giving her fresh foods that were easy to prepare. I like the author's tips and the way she writes. [...]
Rating: Summary: Lots of personal opinion, little scientific basis Review: To read this book, you'd think that parents are simply not feeding their babies properly -- and that's just wrong! I can't even believe some of the things this book says your baby should be eating -- like brewers yeast and dessicated liver (ugh!)! Plus, the author plops down a good healthy dose of her own personal opinions about things, which don't lend much creedence to what little sound advice there might be. I agree with some of the other reviewers -- I don't know where all the stars for good ratings come from!
