Summary: The best baby food book on the market today!!!
Review: I first heard of this book on Good Morning America and saw a flyer for it in my local newspaper. I was instantly intrigued since I was thinking of making my own baby food at home. I am SO GLAD I found this book! It has so many tips and recipes for making baby food that I finally made up my mind to make my own baby food! Ruth makes it so easy to do with all of her helpful hints! I researched other baby food books as well and I have to say, this is the most in depth and helpful one out there! In addition, I went to the website, (...), and she responded to me that same day!!! I highly recommend this book to anyone even considering making their own baby food!

Summary: Great for adopted children and preemies!!
Review: This book is excellent for all children and the author talks about how much more nutritious your easy home-made baby food is for children who are "behind" in growth. She is a mother herself so everything she writes about is keeping simplicity, ease, and time in mind.

She explains how the food you make is so much MORE NUTRITIOUS AND CHEAPER than store bought baby food.

We adopted our 9-month old baby from Russia and at 10 months old I put him on the Super Baby Food diet. It's easy to make the Super Porridge and other foods. And our son loves the Super Porridge mixed with a fruit or vegetable. I like her ideas of how you can make the food for 2-3 days at a time or for a month at a time and how to store and organize it when there's little space in your freezer.

Not only this, but she also has tons of tips about identifying allergic reactions, how/when to brush your baby's teeth, easy kitchen clean up tips with your child(ren). THIS BOOK IS PACKED WITH INVALUABLE INFORMATION! A MUST-READ for all parents and caregivers!

Summary: No thanks - I'll pass on the soy grits and tofu
Review: I found this book to be a big dissappointment! It had alot of information, but nothing that was practical for my family. I wouldn't reccommend this book to anyone.
My biggest concerns about feeding my child was....What and how much can I give her? What age do I introduce new things. How to increase meal sizes.
I wanted a book with the basic guidelines. I also wanted a book that used normal everyday ingredients - something that I had on hand or would be able to find easily at the supermarket. I like to feed my child foods that her parents would eat also. I don't see us eating powdered kelp, tahini, or brewer's yeast anytime soon, and that's just to name a few of the ingredients that the author uses frequently.

Summary: use it all the time
Review: This is a GREAT reference book. Full of details about when to start certain foods and how to prepare food at home. The recipes are easy to follow and having this book has made it much easier to transition from a breastfed baby to a happy, well-nourished toddler!

Summary: Overlook a ton of GOOFY to use this book
Review: Page 209.....WARNING: Your blender and food processor give off a lot of EMFs (electromagnetic fields), so don't stand very close to it. Step back a good foot or two while it is grinding.

Basically, the book consists of useful nutritional information (sourced from no less than eight pages full of other peoples work) intermingled with grandiose opinions ranging from the dangers of EMFs from food grinders to little warnings such as never using plastic bags with paint on them for food uses.

If you can overcome the warnings and the money saving ideas such as reusing plastic sandwich bags, this book could be useful...As long as you use it with the understanding that the author and the publisher take no responsibility for any damages caused by the use of this book.....

Summary: Finally, the most comprehensive baby food book!
Review: I've read numerous baby books concerned with nutrition for my one-year old. Thus far, this book is the best I've read. It is literally loaded with valuable information: nutritional content of food, freezing techniques, recipes, even arts and crafts. I read it from cover to cover and really feel I have a handle on how to feed my baby with the best foods. It is never out of my reach -- I highly recommend Super Baby Food.

Summary: Super FAMILY Food
Review: This book has become my cookbook of choice, as the recipes are simple, healthy, and fun. They fit right in with the way our whole family eats, so I use it more than any other cookbook. But it's so much more than "just a cookbook." It is contains a wealth of information on such diverse topics as nutrition, crafts, gifts, toddler parties, laundry and cleaning tips, and safety. I am a working mom, so I don't have a lot of time to cook or to set up elaborate toddler craft projects. The fun, simple, and time-saving ideas in this book help me feed my kids nutritious meals AND entertain them in the few hours we have each day.

Summary: Our Baby Food Bible
Review: This book has been so helpful to us as anxious new parents--it really lays out clearly and cheerfully what to do each step of the
way and is a great reference tool. When we went in for our son Eli's 6 month checkup, and it was time to think about starting solid foods, we really wanted someone to tell us what the best way to go about solid foods was. We wanted to know what to feed first and how to prepare it and what to do, but our pediatrician was almost too laid back and didn't really tell us anything but "wait 4-5 days between each new food you start". Another mom in my mom's group had recommended your book, so we had brought a copy with us to the doctor; when we showed it to him he said "sure, try that if you want to". Well now we've tried it for about 3 months and it's been great. I feel confident that Eli is getting super nutrition and he's happy and healthy (though I must admit he's had 3 colds so far in his little life...but I blame those on traveling on airplanes!) and a great eater. He's up to 3 meals a day now at 9 months old and shows no signs of slowing down. :)

I do agree with some of the other reviewers that this book can be a bit over the top in terms of hygeine warnings, make-your-own ideas, and nutrition tables, but overall I prefer having more suggestions than I need. We use this book for the general Super Baby Food diet suggestions, the what-foods-to-introduce-when timetables, and the fabulous food cube method. The one thing we have not yet tried (but will shortly) is making our own Super Porridge from scratch. We were worried about our son getting enough iron, so for the first few months we chose to go with the iron-fortified Earth's Best whole grain boxed cereals. But after asking our doctor at Eli's 9 month checkup about iron supplements, he told us that it wasn't really as necessary as we thought (neither were vitamin supplements as long as the diet is well rounded) so we're going to start making our own now. Hopefully Eli will like his homemade Super Porridge as much as he likes the boxed kind! (This morning he scarfed up a huge portion of oatmeal porridge mixed with egg yolk, brewers yeast and asparagus...mmm....)

We're still definitely playing around with Eli's diet, trying to get the nutrient balance right, but I have every confidence that we'll get it right, thanks to the tons of helpful info provided in this cheerful, friendly, chatty book. Thanks, Ruth, for putting this book together!
