Rating: Summary: Great for Beginners Review: I have 7 month old twins (boy/girl) and I wasn't sure what they could eat at what month. This book tells you exactly what they can have, except for the meat. The only negative thing is this book is a vegaterian book, which is not really a negative thing. We are meat eaters & if we want to feed the babies any meat products, we just buy a jar of baby food. Problem solved. It also gives tips on cleaning your kitchen to keep it bacteria free & how much formula (or breast milk) to give them for each month they are eating solids. It also tells what a baby cannot have at each month & why they can't have it yet. Overall, TERRIFIC book!
Rating: Summary: I love "Super Baby Food" and so does my son! Review: I am a first-time mom who spends most of my time outdoors "playing". My husband and I are very strict with our diets and we wanted the same for our baby. I went crazy trying to find the perfect diet for my son. After looking at too many cook books to mention, I found "Super Baby Food". I am very pleased with what Ruth Yaron had to put in there! It is so very informative. My son is almost 10 months old and hasn't been sick once! He is happy and very healthy! My husband and I are excited for our baby to learn good eating habits! WHO NEEDS A COOK BOOK THAT TEACHES YOU HOW TO "DECORATE" FOOD TO MAKE YOUR KID EAT IT? CRAZY!!!Thanks Ruth!!!
Rating: Summary: Can never have too much info on what too feed your baby Review: Although she goes a bit over board here and there and the book could be half as long, BUT I'd rather have 'too' much info than not enough. I carefully breastfed my son exclusively for six months and then started solids and something just didn't seem right. I made some of my own babyfood tried to buy organic and wanted to raise him ovo-lacto veg like me but needed more guidance, what was okay to give him and when and what foods would he thrive on? Here you will find all the guidance you will ever need and how to do it easily AND inexpensively. I happened upon this book, thanks.
Rating: Summary: Great Info! Review: Great book!! Lots of good information. A must have!! Especially for first time moms! This is a guideline to feeding your baby when you don't have anything else to go on. They don't come with owner's manuals, you know!Includes everything you need to know on nutrition, first foods, healthy recipes and alot of added extras. I couldn't have done it without this excellent resource! I can say my baby is eating healthy! Two thumbs up!!
Rating: Summary: fabulous book!! Review: This book is wonderful! I made Carl sweet potato, avocado, and green beans for a month of feedings in an afternoon! Now I just take out a couple of cubes and thaw them for the day! Ruth Yaron designed this book for parents she knows how limited our time is. I did this all with minimal reading, the book is set up in such a way that you CAN'T go wrong! It is so easy!! and the money saving tips are great too!!
Rating: Summary: Scatterbrained writing and superfluous topics Review: The title of the book is "Super Baby Food" but really it should be called, "I Was Martha Stewart in my Former Life." I asked for this book for Christmas because I had heard such good things about it. While Ruth Yaron's intentions are good, her writing technique is difficult to follow. She is constantly referencing other chapters and/or pages and I felt confused and disorganized when reading it. Secondly, some of the issues she covers are just plain ridiculous. Maybe she's just trying to cover her [own], but I think anyone with half a brain cell knows not to let the baby play with freezer bags because they can suffocate. She might as well say, "Make sure not to stick baby's hand in food processor while blending." Third, there are all these "extra" chapters that just don't seem to fit the title of the book and what I was expecting. Maybe Ms. Yaron was under pressure from the publisher to produce a larger book, or maybe she's got ambitions to become the next Martha Stewart. But I wanted to read about baby food, not how to make party hats and decorate cookies. I guess it's cute if you enjoy baked goods and trying to throw the best shin dig for your 1 year-old. But I thought the book could have done without it. Fourth, she gives age guidelines for certain foods that I don't understand. For example, she says baby should be 7 months before eating pureed peas or carrots. Well then how come commercial baby food companies offer carrots and peas as a stage one food? Perhaps she sees commercial carrots as poisonous, but I know several babies who ate carrots before 7 months and lived to see their next birthday. Also, there were foods mentioned like tofu, kelp, and other bizarre items that I would never even think to give a baby. Maybe some people would find that information valuable but I think most babies would be content with "standard" foods. Anyway, the information in the book is what I wanted--Ms. Yaron gives excellent suggestions, directions, and ideas for making and storing homemade baby food. But her efforts were overshadowed by laughable safety tips, misfitting chapters and disorganization. Other than that, it was about how to make your own baby food.
Rating: Summary: Great for Veggie-Family Review: Ruth's book is wonderful, especially if you are a vegetarian parent. Lots of ideas, guidelines, recipes, etc. Some are too earthy-crunchy for this granola-making mom, but I'd highly recommend it. I refer to it so often, I leave it on my kitchen counter. Worth it.
Rating: Summary: Healthy Ideas and using your common sense... Review: I'm on the fence regarding this book. There is a lot of nutritional information for today's vegetarian, not to mention the scores of warnings throughout the book. However in my family we are meat eaters who love our vegetables. So this book wasn't a complete waste for us. Nonetheless I would of liked to have seen more recipes on cooking baby food with meat. The half page graciously given to making a meatloaf and several pages on the cons of touching no less eating meat, don't cut it. I did like the book for some of the hints and tips but wouldn't advise it to those that get bothered by someone who thinks everyone should be and live like a vegetarian. Some of her ideas are a bit eccentric but I think Ruth was trying to help those that may not have money to burn. What I don't think she took into consideration is that it is very cosmopolitan to make baby food today. Someone on WIC may not have a food processor in their kitchen cabinet let alone be able to go right out and buy one. While those that do have a food processor in their kitchen cabinet could probably care less about tips like recycling sandwich bags and twist ties. It took a while to get my mother-in-law into the whole idea of food cubes but now she understands and considering she watches my daughter while I'm at work that's a good thing. I know I wouldn't have thought of steaming, pureeing, and then freezing the food bathces of food in ice cube trays covered with plastic and aluminum...I would of just done it like my mom and her mom did; cooked it as I needed it. Ruth's concept was wonderful sometimes a bit extreme for my tastes, but still wonderful. My daughter loves the different veggies and hasn't complained yet. I love the fact that women of our generation are starting to get back to basics. Breastfed babies are more common and now the whole concept of making baby food isn't so evil. I do recommend this book, but I strongly suggest using your common sense. Now I'm searching for the perfect follow up to these starter foods...my little girl does loves to eat chicken and I wouldn't dream of making her eat brewers yeast or tofu, ESPECIALLY when my husband and I don't!
Rating: Summary: Super Indeed! Review: I am a first time mom of a raring 1-year-old, who is a strict vegetarian, along with me. I use so much of the Super Baby Food book all the time! It has lived in my kitchen (right where I'll need it most!) since I got it. While it is true that the ingredients in this book may be new to some, as they were to me, I was very excited to know about these new and wonderful foods that could provide superior nutrition to my growing baby. I had/have a lot of concerns about nutrition and this book provided a lot of very "common person" information about nutrition and how it all works with our bodies. Very good, not too much info on the subject, but enough in-depth that I learned something. Again, if you are looking at raising a veg*n baby/kid I would definetly reccommed this book. Ruth uses both dariy and eggs, but those are easily substituted. Two-thumbs up! 5 Stars! A 10.0 on the Richter Scale! Thank you Ruth for taking the time to write the book. : )
Rating: Summary: This book is great - YOU CAN DO THIS! Review: This book is a godsend. I am working full time and making all of my baby's food. This book answers ALL of my questions so I don't have to spend forever talking to and waiting for my baby's doctor to call me back. It gives you "how-to" for everything, including chopping, preparing, and freezing all the foods your baby can eat. It tells you what's okay and when, and it tells you how to help your baby enjoy everything! The BEST BOOK I have purchased recently, and I have purchased a lot!
