Rating: Summary: If you want a textbook (vegetarian) buy this. Review: Way too wordy, not a cookbook; more of a text on infant nutrition with recipes included. Difficult to reference, & hold pages open while preparing. Best thing in it is the cake section in the back. I returned.
Rating: Summary: Super Baby Food Review: This book was super! I followed the author's advice and made my own baby food -- veggies, pureed fruits, super porridge, etc. It doesn't take long -- I work full-time and find the time to prepare the food. It's not as quick as opening a Gerber jar but it's healthier and less expensive. I make large batches and freeze it -- when I need it it's convenient, fast and easy!I agree it improves a baby's health! My baby is 10 months old and has never had any infection or illness. My pediatrician even asked me if I was making my own babyfood. He said he's noticed that the healthier babies usually are fed homemade foods. I love the book so much I would buy it for friend's (shower gifts) but I recommend it instead. I think most people are too lazy (and not very frugal) to make the effort and commitment.
Rating: Summary: Everything You Ever Wanted to Know . . . . . . and More! Review: I found this book to be helpful when giving us an idea of how to progress through introducing our daughter to specific foods. I liked the fact that it gives rational for each choice. There is information on specific fruits and vegetables from storing to preparing and even identifing! This book is EXTREMELY helpful if your wanting to prepare the best foods for your child in the safest and most nutritional manner! I found all the cross-referencing to be slightly distracting. This book is jam - packed with it all!!!
Rating: Summary: OK for vegans Review: This book teaches extreme veganism - not for me. Also, I found it a complete waste of time to make my own baby food, when my baby was eating table food by eight months.
Rating: Summary: Don't waste your money. Review: If you feed your child nothing else, he will have to eat what you give him. If Ms. Yaron worked and had a couple of children, I can't see where she would have the time to make all these special foods. My children seem to survive quite well on Gerbers and then table food at 10 months. I wonder if she ate any of these preparations. She would be one skinny woman if she did. Spend time with your children instead of making up silly recipies.
Rating: Summary: Keep an open mind and read this book! A great reference. Review: This book is full of information! It gets repetitive and doesn't flow well in parts, but it is WELL WORTH overlooking these details to get at the information found inside the book. The book is invaluable in teaching you how to easily make your own baby food, how to store the homemade food, and what foods to introduce to your infant in what order. There is a wealth of information beyond this too. I asked our pediatritican's opinion on the book's overall approach and he basically agreed with it. I never did use egg yolks, but otherwise tried much of what the author suggests. Our daughter is 2 years old now. When she began eating solids at 5 months old I began using this book right from the beginning. We are not vegetarians. But the author's overall understanding of nutrition and food is easily adapted to the non-vegetarian diet. We just added animal protein sources into the mix at the appropriate time! To this day our daughter is very open to eating a large variety of healthy foods. She is not a picky eater. This book has a lot of ideas and suggestions that may seem crazy to you at first. But read the book like you would a novel. Give the basic approach a try. You will learn a lot about food and nutrition, and your baby will have a healthy introduction to solid foods. My thanks to the author for writing this book!
Rating: Summary: Just Horrible; Do not waste your money. Review: Read all online reviwes on this book, but was not convinced either way and wanted to find for myself.......... Boy, I would agree 100% with everybody who said that this book was BADLY ORGANIZED, MISLEADING, POORLY WRITTEN. I have a very picky eater and need suggestions on how and what to cook so that she'll eat. Well, I've learned nothing. Yaron's book is for a baby who eats everything no matter how bad it is. PLEASE, DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY ON THIS ONE. TRUST ME.
Rating: Summary: Some great info but horrible presentation Review: I am not a "health nut" but do like to prepare nutritious food to my family. This book was great in its advice on foods to introduce per month (although some foods...like nuts...were introduced too early) and how to prepare and store pureed early baby food. The section detailing fruits and veggies (what to get, how to prepare) was especially helpful. I must admit I never made her super cereal, but was encouraged to buy the whole grain kind. However, about 300 of the 500+ pages were completely useless and/or had nothing to do with food. In addition, the general layout of the book was poor. The recipes were introduced in the middle of the book and were haphazard, not allowing me to use the book as the reference I had hoped. Also the parent must keep in mind that most kids grow up in the real world. Eating healthy is wonderful, however you won't be able to find most of this food if you ever leave the house. My dd is a picky eater and I now have to pack her lunch wherever we go because she won't eat the standard grilled cheese or pizza at a restaurant.
Rating: Summary: A lot of book with very little good information Review: There is some good information in this book, but a lot of garbage to sort through to get to it. I am a new mother, I work, I am busy- So get to the point! Also, I am not going to cook two meals forever, and I have been feeding my daughter table food since she was 10 months old. This book does not teach you how to get your baby to eat table food, but assumes you will be making seperate meals. Although she claims it is easy and fast, it is not that fast. I also object to her tone (for instance "the whiter the bread, that faster you're dead"). I can feel plenty guilty about my lack of parenting skills on my own. I don't need a book to add to it.
Rating: Summary: LOVED IT!! Review: I heard a lot about this book so I ordered it and I LOVE IT!! It is well written, informative, easy to follow and the information is so VALUABLE. I believe that this is the best way to feed a baby. Healthy, homemade food is what I want to feed my son and this book answers my questions about everything. The book makes it so easy. I am so happy I found this book. I use it all the time. It is age appropriate and I am so RELIEVED to have this information. I searched high and low. Best investment I could have made!!!
