Rating: Summary: Well Worth the Money! Review: If you are seriously incorporating low carb foods into your lifestyle, this book is excellent. There is such a wide range of great recipes to choose from. The "Magic Rolls" recipe (delicious, fluffy bread!)was worth the full price of the book in itself. The authors include a nice review and explanation of some of the less-familiar ingredients, as well as a few sources for purchasing these items. The recipes are clearly written and easy to follow. I also highly recommend Dana Carpender's low carb cookbooks.
Rating: Summary: "Magic Rolls" a problem Review: Most of the interesting recipes in this book were based on "Magic Rolls", which contain white flour. White flour, sugar, and other highly processed foods are inappropriate for Atkins and have a significant effect on blood sugar, even if the carb count fits within your daily carb budget. The other recipes were boring, frankly, and relied heavily on thickeners such as guar and xanthan gum. If you are more interested in learning a new WOE than you are in trying to fake memories from your old WOE, then this isn't a good book for you.
Rating: Summary: good but not the best Review: Nice recipes and easy to follow, but lacks the humor of books by by Dana Carpender, She is an expert on low carb coooking, ned both!
Rating: Summary: Pleasantly Surprised Review: So far we've tried about half a dozen recipes from this book and have been happy with all of them. The pizza, pancakes and muffins were surprisingly good - better than any other low carb version I've tried so far. I look forward to trying the bread and pasta recipes too.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: The authors explain in the beginning that they have health concerns about soy products and therefore use them sparingly. As far I as know, these concerns aren't widely shared, and the resulting underuse of soy makes many of the recipes far less satisfactory than they would otherwise be, since soy flour is by far the best low carb substitute for wheat flour. To avoid soy, they use ingredients such as bran that really change the character of recipes like pizza dough,. I did learn a few tricks. such as using almond flour, but overall the recipes were diappointing.
Rating: Summary: Clarification on fiber counts Review: The carb count listed for each recipe is known as the ECC or "effective carbohydrate count"--fiber grams have already been subtracted! This makes this book a very useful one for low carbers--even those following Atkins. (The poor confused woman below who titled her review "Atkins Dieters Beware" would KNOW that if she had bothered actually reading the intro and preface.)
Rating: Summary: Good Cookbook Review: The coconut macaroon cookies, sugar cookies, and the chocolate chip cookies are reason enough to buy the book! I do substitute other sweeteners (mostly bulk Splenda and brown or crystal maltitol) for their little bits of real sugar and the recipes still turn out great. I chop up low carb chocolate bars or get low carb chocolate chips, sometimes increase the sweetener to my taste, add more/different extracts, whatever. I use a tsp of lemon and a tsp of coconut extract for the lemon peel in the macaroons--and pineapple extract is good to sub for one of the tsp of vanilla. King Arthur Flour has good unsweetened coconut for this recipe. Sometimes you do have to order online ingredients for many of the low carb cookbooks, depending on where you live and what is available. So? Almond flour (which is much healthier)is not as available as white flour in most supermarkets--yet. Same for some other low carb ingredients. This is a low carb cookbook. If you want to use regular flour, buy a regular cookbook.

Rating: Summary: The Low-Carb Comfort Food Cookbook Review: The recipes are so delicious. Plus, since I've been dieting, I haven't been able to eat my favorite meal - fried chicken! It's wonderful to now have a cookbook which offers so many great low-carb recipes to help satisfy my cravings, while helping me keep my weight down.
Rating: Summary: Super Cookbook Review: The recipes are terrific and low carb, too. Just when you thought you had to give the pleasure of certain foods, the Drs. Eades come up with an extensive collection of comfort food favorites. This is well worth the price!
