Summary: Amazing and Unforgettable!
Review: I kept seeing this book every time I went into a bookstore and the cover always caught my eye, but I would repeatedly walk away from it since I usually don't read any non-fiction books. Well, after hearing from some of my trusted book-reading friends about how great this book was, I decided to finally go ahead and give it a try. Well, the first thing that I noticed is how the book read like fiction. After reading about 20 pages, I was pretty much hooked! This book was so good that I would forget at times that this was a TRUE STORY! I found myself so upset and disturbed by the way he was treated at the Picketts' house that I didn't know if I could last through that section without wanting to put the book down. But, I persevered and I made it to the very happy and satisfying conclusion. For Antwone Fisher to literally survive against the odds by making something of his life was amazing, inspiring, and absolutely unforgettable. I would love to meet him one day and I definitely look forward to the day that his story hits the big screen!!!

Summary: Excellent Beyond Words
Review: This book moved me in a way that is hard to describe. Being a Cleveland native, I was intensely affected by Antwone Fisher's ability to describe his boyhood there...the smell of the rain...the quality of light...the pain of loneliness. I will never forget this story. He is a master. I can truly say this is one of the best books I have ever read.

Summary: Worth the time
Review: I dont even know how to start. I cried and laughed while reading this book. I felt what the main character felt when he went through his ordeals. Anyone who is going through a tough childhood should be given this book to inspire them.

Summary: Finding Fish
Review: This was an extremely emotional piece. Although, I didn't grow up in a foster home, Fisher gave me some insight as to his strength and his ability and desire to overcome obstacles. I admire his courage and determination. It just goes to show you, we can ALL overcome when mountains are before us.

Summary: WONDERFUL TESTAMENT TO THE HUMAN SPIRIT
Review: I loved this book, started on Friday finished on Saturday night. If I could strangle that foster mother I would have. I pray that the movie does the book some justice. I feel Denzel may be too old for the part. This book is for those that want to stop using their past to justify their present and their future. If Fish can do it so can you.

Summary: A Resilent Child in the Man
Review: This is a true story of a child who suffered horrific injustices of not only the Family Services, people of his own race but more frightening of a Foster Mother who was chosen to love, care and protect him. All of these organizations and people failed him terribly, yet despite all of these nightmares, he somehow pulled himself through the pits of hell to survive. He came through all of this with incredible human skills that in my opinion where self taught. He developed his own talents, his own humour, his own morals and values, his own strong sense of love and family and most important his own self worth in a world that failed him miseribly. As a mother and a person that believes that the only race is the human one I felt incredible feelings of love and pride for this beautiful boy, now a man. This is a true story that teaches all of us that with love in our heart and arms stretched out to one another we can over come anything. Sadly this boy had to learn this pretty much alone, what an incredible gift he has to offer the people in his life. I found myself wishing I could have held and comforted him, perhaps one day we as a human race can stand up and say this cannot happen to another person again. We are indeed all equal when we stand at heavens gate. I will for one watch as this wonderful man continues to make his mark in the world. This is truely a book that can teach us all about ourselves and it should be read by everyone.

Summary: God set a place at the table for Fish.
Review: It's just a shame it took over twenty years for Fish to hear the dinner bell.

A wonderful, uplifting story written in a unique matter-of-fact style. You can glean the plot from the reviews above but it is important to know there is not an ounce of self-pity in the story. It is a tale of self-reliance and redemption that makes you believe just how precious all life is. How amazing that his real family was near him all the time yet nobody knew it!

Don't wait for the movie with Denzel Washington. Read this book!

Summary: Touching and Triumphant
Review: Finding Fish is the sad story of a child lost in the foster care system living with a family bent on destroying him. The child loses all dignity and fight becoming a whipping boy for his foster mother and the babysitting neighbor who molests him. After surviving a frightening and abusive childhood, Fish tells his story as an adult where he joins the military and takes on the demons hiding in his closet. His story is strong and brings light to an ever depressing subject, what do we do with the unwanted children. When I finished this book, I wanted to know...how can I help. Someone's got to. This book made it evident that something has to be done. Finding Fish is a touching story that ends with triumph...but his story is a unique one.

Summary: CAN'T PUT DOWN
Review: Absolutely the best book I've read in a long time! Mr Fisher has such a way with words. So many books that are written by abused children jump around so much that it's difficult to follow, definately not the case here. You will immediatly pick up on this mans feelings through his words alone and what amazes me the most is that their was absolutly no "pity me" type of attitude and even more importantly no anger and finger pointing.

I first saw Mr. Fisher on Montel and couldn't get over how similar our lives were...all I could do was weep. This man put into words, something that I don't have the gift of doing, exactly how I have felt my entire life...uninvited.

This book should be read by all colors, sexes, and walk of life. Fish is a survivor and a gift from God.
