Summary: Very Inspiring and Uplifting
Review: This was a very uplifting biography and it should only make us appreciate the things that we often take for granted.(ie parents, a stable home environment, etc) I'm not what you would call an emotional person but right in the middle of the book, when his mean battleaxe of a foster mother got him nothing for Christmas, I could not help but cry.

Finding Fish should serve as an inspiration to anyone, regardless of creed or color, who is having difficulties in life, relationships, careers, to help us put our problems in perspective. Those of us who complain about trivial meaningless matters like our favorite tv shows getting cancelled or not finding the right kind of department store, etc. must understand that unless we walk in the shoes of someone like Fisher, our little gripes and complaints really mean nothing. This individual, according to statistics, should be sitting in some kind of state prison right now or in some kind of homeless shelter but instead, had the fortitude and determination to play the awful cards that were dealt him and become a productive citizen.

So far, this book is the best biography I've ever read and that would include the bios of individuals with surnames of Powell, Kennedy and Lincoln.

Summary: Finding a Great Book
Review: I saw the film, Antwone Fisher, in the theater and watched it recently on Cinemax. Then I read the book. This is not only a poignant story, but it's beautifully, passionately written.
I'm white; I was never in foster care; I've never been homeless or experienced those horrendous problems, but I understood. I felt Fisher's pain and triumph. Thanks for an emotional, powerful reading experience.

Summary: Finding Myself
Review: I could not put the book down! I had seen the movie and enjoyed it very much before reading the book. Now that I have read the book it has given me even more insite on this brave mans life and what he was put through as a young child. After reading his story it made me appreciate more of what I have and have gone through. It has changed my outlook and has made me more aware of a childs feelings. They may not always share with you their thoughts or feelings, but now I know even more that they take everything in and hold it there.

Summary: Food for many thoughts
Review: "Finding Fish" is a deeply moving account of a childhood misspent, Antwone's struggle to find his true self, and finally the triumph of doing just that. It's an important book to read for foster and non-fostre families, for black and white people, for inner city and suburbian dwellers.

I loved the story, and with personal experiences not much different from the ones described I could relate to the story line by line. It makes you laugh and cry, and is an inspiration from start to finish.

The one thing that marred my reading experience is the intrusive, permanent presence of the editor/co-author Mim E. Rivas. I truly wish they would have let Antwone tell his story in his own raw, unedited words. As it is, the co-narrator's voice, while technically skillful, is unauthentic, flat, predictable, and manufactured in the context of the story. I don't know if that's the case or not but to me it sounds as if co-author Mim E. Rivas is a woman, and the feminine narrator's voice/style is really distracting when the story of a young boy/youth/man is being told.

A big Thank You also to Denzel for picking up and giving life to this story.

Summary: Amazing !!!!
Review: As a person who is a survivor of child abuse this book was very theraputic in helping me heal. I would recommend this book for everyone to read and see what it is like through the eyes of someone who endured such pain. Antwone Fisher is a very special spirit that has a lot to offer.

Summary: excellent reading
Review: This particular book should become required reading for all children. Especially inner city children who think their parents are the meanst in the world because they care.

Summary: FInding Fish Book Review
Review: Antwone Quenton Fisher was raised in foster homes ever since his birth in prison to a single mother. His father was shot and killed shortly before he was born in 1959. Fisher went to live with the Pickett family in Glenville, Ohio and that's when his horrible new life begins.

When he came to live with the new family he started to experience constant mental and physical abuse from both Reverend and Mrs. Pickett because of the things he was accused of doing, but didn't really do. He was allowed and got to see his biological mother sometimes as caseworkers analyze their relationship together. Fisher and Dwight, his foster brother, did not get along very well and they were constantly getting into fights.

After a long eleven and one half years, Mrs. Pickett sent Fisher back to child welfare because she was sick of his so-called negative behaviors. He then went to live at George Junior Republic, an all male reform school. While in reform school Antwone decided that he wanted to become either a photographer or an artist. When Antwone turned nineteen he enlisted in the Navy. There he excelled because of the strict rules he had to follow while living with Mrs. Pickett.

This book inspired me because even though it's an incredibly sad story, Fisher somehow survives all the torment. It seems amazing to me that he thinks of himself as fortunate and can see the good in people after being abused by so many. This intense story shows that you can overcome many difficult obstacles and still have a positive attitude.

Summary: Heart-wrenching, poignant, powerful
Review: I saw the movie before reading the book, but as always, the book was better. Antwone Fisher demonstrates the resilience of children, how forgiving they are, how in the face of evil, they triumph over the adults who are supposed to nuture them. His story is not a Hollywood story, but the story of how the foster care system in America has failed. This country should be ashamed at the way foster children are treated.

Review: The writing was solid. We were able to see the events in the story. We felt frustrated when the social workers continued to view and review Antwone's case on a superficial level. Obviously,Ms. Pickett was despicable but we disliked Mr. Pickett even more. He allowed, endorsed, cosigned and sometimes, participated in the cruel and destructive behavior exhibited by his wife. The book did have an uplifting message. We highly recommend this book.

Summary: You Can't Put It Down
Review: We just saw the movie a couple of weeks ago and it made me cry. Of course I had to have the book and just finished reading it tonight - I tried to meter it out (reading time) so I could get chores done too and make the book last, but today I must of read for 5 hours until I completed it. The fun parts were remembering some of the things from childhood I remember too, like Rat Patrol and bell bottom jeans. I was also born in 1959. I love the style of writing. It's like sitting in a room with Fisher and he's telling you everything first hand. For someone like me who had a more traditional upbringing, I tried to mirror those events he described on a timeline in my head, and then tried to remember where I was at the same time. The constant crap he was subjected too bothered me, and for good reason. The book got tears out of me too. This is a story of triumph. Good for human will and spirit. Good for Antwone Fisher and sharing his story.
