Rating: Summary: An Unbelievable and Magnificient Book Review: A close friend of mine is a huge Joe Garner fan. For my birthday last week, she gave me a copy of Stay Tuned. I was completely overwhelmed by the greatness of this book. Joe Garner is a true genius! Listening to the CDs and watching the DVD made me feel as if I was actually there, actually watching and experiencing those unforgettable tv moments all over again. Garner has magnificently captured extraordinary moments in American history in this book, and it is one that should definitely be passed down to our children, their children, and so forth. Since reading Stay Tuned, I am now hooked to Joe Garner, and I plan to buy We Interrupt This Broadcast. I hear that one is excellent as well!

Rating: Summary: DVD Enclosed is Great! Review: An interesting, lively look at American TV that isn't stupid and isn't pedantic. Especially liked the Tim Russert interview as he described the 2000 election. Will give several copies this Christmas.
Rating: Summary: Stay Tuned Review: Another great one from Joe Garner! Stay Tuned is a very good coffee table book (if you will) covering more than 50 years in TV from great shows like "I Love Lucy" and "Survivor" to Sports with Tiger Woods Win at the Masters and the beginning of Monday Night Football to the tragic events of the death of Princess Diana and 9/11.From cover to cover, it's a great book and the DVD that comes with the book is great as well! It also comes with 2 audio CD's with naration as well. Now some people (including myself at first) might not like this one because this book doesn't cover a somewhat important part of TV. The book does not cover anything from the long running cartoon "The Simpsons". Garner's reason was that there isn't that "one marquee" episode of the Simpsons. So again, you Simpsons fanatics might be a little mad at that. This is a great gift for all ages and all TV Viewers alike will enjoy this one as well. I will say there is a lot of narration on the DVD but even so, I think anyone can still appreciate the simplistic history of TV. Also, check out WE INTERUPT THIS BROADCAST. This is another great Garner book about radio and Tv and the shocking bulletins that have made us all go "what?" for example, the Kennedy assasination. Either way, a great buy and a great gift for anyone. Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: No broadcast static here! Review: Finally!!... I have a friend who is a nostalgia buff. Every year I present him with a present which I'm sure he doesn't like or have any use for. This year I gave him Stay Tuned. He was COMPLETELY blown away by the length Garner went to chonicle all of television's most memorable moments. He played a fun game with the book. He would think of an event, or TV episode and see if Garner had forgot to include it........So far, Garner is winning the game! My firend (we'll use the anonymous name of Biff), can't get enough of the book! I know now that the $$$ spent on the book was well worth it. There's not a boring page in the entire book!!... Tune In!!...
Rating: Summary: Book was good, DVD stunk! Review: Garner does a good job WRITING about television, but when it comes to SHOWING television history on the DVD, he failed miserably. Too much blabbing and not enough actual footage. The worst was the segment on "Cheers"--they only showed STILLS, nothing of the shows! Please--if you couldn't get the rights from NBC, you should have just skipped it! And then there was John What-his-name (Cliff) saying that Sam and Diane were like "Tracy and Bacall." Hello?? Perhaps "Tracy and Hepburn" or "Bogart and Bacall," but "Tracy and Bacall"?? This DVD misses the mark, just like ol' Cliffie.
Rating: Summary: Very Cool. Review: I actually like listening to the CDs better than the watching the DVD. The shows and events evoke crystal-clear memories of my youth, my adolescence and my adulthood. I can picture where I was when I first watched these shows.
Rating: Summary: How about a sequel? Review: I admit that I love TV, so I really liked Stay Tuned. I ignored the sports part for the longest time because I'm not into sports much, but when I finally paid attention to that part of the book and DVD, it was just as compelling as the entertainment and news sections. My favorite parts from each section are Saturday Night Live: The Early Years, The Fall of the Berlin Wall, and Black Power: The Protest at the 1968 Mexico City Games. There are too many memorable TV moments for there not to be a sequel to this book! If and when one is published, here are my picks for events to be included in each section: Michael Jackson's moonwalk during his performance of Billie Jean on the Motown 25 tv special in 1983, the 1989 protests at Tiananmen Square, and the 1983 Kansas City Royals-New York Yankees "Pine Tar Game."
Rating: Summary: Cumbersome Review: I found the book faily cumbersome. While Garner's previous books were successful in merging text and audio for an enjoyable experience, I find it a stretch to combine text, audio and video. I found this to contribue to "sensory overload."
