Summary: Touching Story That Will Stay with You Long After It Is Read
Review: I am a 19 year old college student and I picked up this book after hearing so many people talking about it and now I know why. You are taken back to the life of Antwone Quenton Fisher, foster-home child with a foster mother from hell. As he told the story of his life, I was horrified that grownups could be so cruel to a child that was helpless with no way of protecting himself. His foster mother, Mrs. Pickett, was deranged, used derogatory names for him, physically and mentally aboused him, and told him negative things about his family. This book made me cry as I realized that there was no Superman in Antwone's life to save the day. He had to fend for himself and be his own Superman.

This book is a MUST REAAD for everyone. He poured his heart out and I was glad the book ended the way it did. I will not give anymore away becuase you should go out and BUY this book!...

Summary: Find "Fish" in you
Review: I bought this book instead of seeing the movie because as we all know the book version is always better. After reading this book I realized no screenplay could ever be this good.

"Finding Fish" gives you detailed accounts of his absintee father's death, the cruelty, mental and physical abuse he suffered at his foster home, and his sometimes troubled growth into an adult.

I sympathised with Fish and, being a former "ward of the state", I totally understood the inner workings of the foster care system and the evils that really do exist behind closed doors.

After reading this book, one will certainly develop a sense of appreciation for their families and for achieving goals set for themselves. This should be required reading for middle school to high school students.

Summary: Relating to Antwon Fisher
Review: I can certainly relate to Antwon Fisher's story, for I was placed in three different foster homes and suffered everlasting effects at the hands of a Reverend and his wife along with another foster home who maimed and tortured the children under their care. I also joined the U.S. Navy in 1984 after being in these homes and am currently serving as a Chief Petty Officer.

This story brings with it the breadth and magnitude of how a courageous young man fought the odds of a turbulent pass to become a success in life. The book is well worth buying and the movie will be just as exciting to watch.

Summary: Outstanding
Review: I have read this book a few times due to the powerful nature of both the topic and the writing. I am compelled to write a second review beacuse it is such a moving and important book. I have not yet met Mr. Fisher, however I did appear on a National Public Radio talk show with him a few years ago and can attest to his spirit and courage.

I strongly recommend that all of you read this vastly important book and consider Mr. Fisher's experiences, his feelings, and all of the implications in the book for how we might shape foster care policy, practice and how we allocate resources on behalf of those in the foster care system.

Summary: A powerful and inspiring story
Review: I read this book in about four days and at times I was shocked, horrified and plain angry at how Antwone and his other foster siblings were raised in the Pickett home. People always assume that black men are social deviants, but it was interesting to see that black women can also be just as callus. Mizz Pickett, Willenda and Lizzie were the most horrible human beings that were trusted to take care of children who actually abused them. Mizz Pickett reminded me of Albert so much from the "Color Purple" that it was beyond scarey. Mizz Pickett was phyisically, emotionally and mentally abusive to all of the people in her home and did not mind robbing people of their spirit and dignity. However, Antwone was a fighter and used day dreaming to escape to another world and he always knew that one day he would leave the Picketts home, but not the way it would happen.

I have not see the movie, but instead read the book to get the true essence of what Antwone Fisher experience in his life. I realize the movie is going to be different from the book, but that doesn't matter to me. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would love to read it again and pass it on to others. I have learned so much from Antwone and his life.
